Train or Weapon Uprgade?

Fri Feb 10, 2006 6:03 am

This may belong in another topic but I didn't think so.

I was wondering if it is generally more important to train your pet or to get stronger weapons (more icons).

for example is it more imortant to get to the next str boost or to get a couple more icons, like 3-5.

Thanks for your help. :D

I think both is important.

With the boosts, you'll do more damage.
With better weapons, you'll do more damage.

Do both, and the effect is doubled :)

I think training takes precedence over getting a better weapon. Training increases the inherent damage your pet can do...whereas weapons just increase the damage once (if a better weapon comes out, you will spend more money just to increase those couple of icons difference, but when you train, your pet becones stronger and there is no replacement)

I dont think im making very much sense though...I just think that training is better...I'll come up with a better argument if I have time later :P

Stats are really improtant, because they allow you to do different amount of damage with the weapon. If at 55 strength boost, the weapon would do more damage than at a 35 strength boost. But, the weapons are important as well...

Balancing is the answer, imo.

The best way to know what's better is calculating with this calculator on IDB. If, for example, training to the next boost will cost you 700k and in the same amount you can obtain 2 more icons, then just check with that calc what will increase the damage more - stat boost or more icons.

I did this checking a while ago, and I figured out that if I'll spend 400k on strength training, it will increase the damage I do way more than spending this money on weapons. And indeed, in spite of my weapon-desire, I began training, which eventually turned out to be very effective.

Yet, it also depends on your personal preferences. I know that I can train my pet even more, but I just prefer saving money for weapons. Why? maybe because i'm materialistic, dunno :P

Where is the best place to train? I have only 1 dubloon and I have about 4 codstones.
Any suggestions would be greatly helpful. Oh by the way I have a new pet and it is not yet a month old but I haven't even trained my older pets yet cause I really wasn't even gonna do that part in Neo world but I would like a trophy cause I suck at games. :(

For lower level pets I would say the The Swashbuckling Academy, one and two dubloon coins are aprox 3,000 nps. The Mystery Island Training School
takes codestones which currently run 2,900 to 5,100 each. And you never know which codestone you need till you actually take the course.

I've found that you should use Mystery Island after level 20 (you heard me right) 5 dubloon coins are more expensive than 2 codestones.

On the one hand...you can't get back time. When you have a weak pet it is easy to train. Once you get above level 250 and have to use the ninja school training is difficult and extremely expensive. If you want to have a really strong pet, you need to train faster than others and you can't get back the missing time. A couple of years ago I kept the Top Pets list on this forum. And, I remember where I was on the list. There were some on the list close to me. But I let up on my training for awhile and now those people are way ahead of me and I can't make up the time I lost.

Also, as a general rule the cost to train to a higher strength boost is usually cheaper than the cost to buy a weapon which does an equivalent amount of extra damage.

So, those are reasons to train first.

However, there are inherent problems win focusing on training. I would guess my pet is now somewhere toward the bottom of the top 200 or so in stats. And, if I had really trained as strongly as I could she would be in the top 100. But my weapons are not equivalent to those of most of my stat peers. A fairly typical set for someone in my stat range is SOS + PCC + GShield + GBomb. Quite a few have GSwords as well. I don't have that strong a set so I tend to not do as well compared to others with similar stats to mine. Therefore, particularly if you like battling in competition, you may want to consider how you feel about not having the "typical" weapons of your stat peers.
