IIRC, it's a giveaway (though exceedingly rare, hence the price) from the space treasure maps.

it used to be a useless item before the BD was created. many were put into circulation that way. i know i had about 100 at one time but sold almost all of them before they broke the 100k mark. Damn i wish i still had them.

i haven't tried this, but i heard that if you have a purple sticky hand, and attack the dr. sloth clone (found on krueledor) with it, the sticky hand will steal one from it. the hand also steals items from other battledome opponents, but my pet is too weak to fight

That might be true, but you don't get to keep it after the battle.
