I lost my Roanna_np account today. Fortunately, enough of the wealth was
shunted off to another account to permit me to hit the ground running
should I choose to ever go back to having an NP making account.

I am supposed to be chastened but I am not. I went down in exactly the
right way. Here is the intro and character that cost me my account. This
is the intro I usually wrote for her:

Nasmath's father was the Secretary of Defense for La Republique du Mali,
but Nasmath was no princess. She stood 4'11 in her bare brown feet. Her
skin was the color of an old copper penny. Her face was round with wide
set moist black eyes and a nose that was lumpy. She wore a hijab (a
large scarf) on her head, a long cotton skirt, and a three quarter
length sleeve t-shirt. She preferred going barefoot. She was fifteen and
had spent a year in the United States. Therefore, her English was
impecable if slightly accented. French was her first western language
and Bambara her mother tongue.

In her various role plays, Nasmath makes light conversation, sews the
hem on a piece of cloth that is to be a hijab because mail order hijabs
in the United States are so expensive. Nasmath's year in the United
States where she worked in her uncle's convenience store have gotten rid
of her shyness around boys. Sometimes I write....

States it was considered polite, friendly, and proper.

Now if you were a parent, would you complain about your child reading
about a young well behaved woman from Mali? Well folks this is what got
my account pulled.

If you know any one whose children are on Neopets, pass this on. I'll
be publicizing this one left and right.

Fortunately, I backed up all the images from the other account and all
the web work. There is no loss. I can still even play the games. My
guild members have enough tools in their hands that my freezing does not
cripple things, but part of me says why bother. I am free to role play
the open source versions of my pets on my own web board and may well do
that.

I just joined another role play board, but haven't heard anything from
the owner there. There are plenty of other places on the net including
those that offer games without all this garbage. A big piece of me says
why bother, until I read Nasmath's role play intro. Any organization
that prohibits and punishes for such obviously legal speech, is evil to
its core. One has a duty to fight evil.

the role-play had nothing to do with neopets, neopets are from neopia, not the united states or mali or wherever else. I think it was a fair freeze. sorry. also, the part about "talking to boys" is vaguely suggestive and shouldn't really be on neopets.

If you were given a warning, you should have stopped. It's nobody's fault but your own.

So TNT was justified in freezing your account. Personally, I'd think that the Neoboards would be a horrendous place to try and roleplay. You're much better off finding an actual community elsewhere.

I understand that if the person got several warnings and did not stop, they probably did deserve to be frozen, BUT...

Does TNT mean we are only supposed to roleplay neopets-related things? If so, I'm sorry, but that just seems...wrong some how. High-school roleplays I can understand not liking much, seeing as how they can lead to things one would not want on neopets, but their broad encompesing of things that "Do not belong" bothers me. I've roleplayed Digimon roleplays in the past. (Haven't touched the RP boards in ages though) Does that make me a rulebreaker?

Maybe I'm just missenterpeting what they mean in that editoral...and if so, I'd love clarification.

Not to mention the part about her being the daughter of a Secretary of Defense. The whole subject matter was not really Neo-appropriate.

To the OP, if you received warning(s) and you continued on, you deserve to be frozen. We may not agree with the rules they set, but if we play on the site we have to follow them, regardless.

Hmm, well I don't RP - anywhere really. I just don't have the right mindset for it I guess. I do write, but the RP kind of interplay and I don't "mesh".

Now, to your situation. The RP was not neo-related at all. If you'd RP'ed having the main character being one of your pets and not gotten into anything even hinting at politics I going to guess you would have been ok.

As to the reason - Continuing to break the rules even after a warning was given - did you, in fact get a warning? And if you did get one, did you decide to continue with that particular RP? If so, then I have to agree with the others who said the freezing was justified.

I have seen cases where a person's was frozen for that reason and actually did not ever get a warning. Perhaps the warning did come, but the freezing happened before the warning arrived.

I think RP are better left to other sites, IMHO. There's rules, filters, mod interpretation, etc. on the site and there can be are are "grey" areas. But the father being Secretary of Defense, the talking to boys and even the talk of the hijab - that could be considered religious depending on who read it.

You deliberately went out of your way to be controversial and to go against the rules and regulations of Neopets.

You constantly come on PPT to critisize Neopets but you do nothing to modify your own behaviour when it is deemed to be inappropriate.

Neopets is a child-friendly zone and should not be used for adult-orientated subjects. But having said that, the RP wasn't just about being innappropriate for children, but inappropriate in general. With all the tensions between countries at the moment, common sense should tell you to stay away from such subjects on Neopets.

Neopets isn't around so opinionated people can grandstand and make political/racial/creed comments or incite others to react to such posts. A RP such as that could quite as easily turned ugly if others posted nasty comments within the RP.

You have posted before about how you thought your main account would be frozen but still continued to do the wrong thing by Neopets standards.

Neopets is for general entertainment and in my opinion a place to relax or take life easy. If you want to be highly intellectual or more serious than find a site that is designed for that.

You want to play on a site with your own rules without thought of who else may be offended or affected by your actions. If you do not play within the guidelines than why complain when you are called out for it?

Some roleplayers on Neopets are very literate and intelligent, and its a very active place to find people interested in your characters.

Just before this post, I went to the RP Boards, and counted only three RPs related to Neopets. All the rest were fantasies, real life, historical, and famous characters sort of stuff in worlds outside of Neopets, with characters that werent within Neopia's borders.

As of now, their position in the Editorial has been far from upheld, and the only RP notification on the board simply tells people to post in character, or face getting frozen. If all but Neo-related RPs were wiped out, that board would be much more seldom used, and a lot of players who have posted literate storylines without problems, and created a web of friends, would be upset.

In all honestly, Ive seen previous threads Eileen has made on PPT, and found a lot of what she said to be idle complaints, and unnecessary. Id go so far as to say that I rolled my eyes at this thread too, and her insistence to cause a scene. But she did say something I agreed with. What parent would really object to anything she had written? That is the reason for Neopets rules..to protect its young visitors.

If Neo's reason for warning Eileen in the start was because her characters father was a government figure, thats akin to TNT freezing me for telling interested people something like 'my father was a senator, and my mother once traveled to D.C. and shook Jimmy Carter's hand, but their influence didnt affect my life.'

In addition, plenty of medieval/fantasy RPs include Kings, Queens, and other royalty, and are sufficiently left alone. Yet a monarchy is just as much a body of government as a dictatorship as a democracy. How does Secretary of Defense in a fictional RP differ from a Queen's advisor in Europe on protecting her kingdom's borders? According to the rules, both should be deleted and the creators get warnings, but it doesnt occur that way.

I'd be personally upset if I had even gotten a warning for an RP like hers. Unlike her, I wouldnt have continued the RP, and came here to complain when I got frozen in the end. But her infractions stem from rules which are not consistently upheld for all players, and fringe rules open to personal mod interpretation (making friends with boys is bad? Talking about another culture is religious?)

Neopets is allowed to be unfair, they can make a rule telling half the population that their usernames cant start with 'z, g, or s' if they want, but people are equally allowed to get angry, and try to get TNT to be consistent and just. They'd do that out of love for Neopets and because they dont want to leave, not out of hate.

I would just like to point out that the Hijab or Hidjab, is religious and a Huge source of controversy. I don't know if you are in America or why you decided to give this to your character. But having been stationed in Turkey for 8 months now I can certainly see why Neopets would not be to keen on this.

Yes, Turkey is a Muslim country, and yes, the muslim faith says that women here should be wearing a hijab, I have even had to wear them. You are not allowed to enter a Camii, or Mosque, without wearing one, and to be 100% honest, there have been times where I was really uneasy Not wearing one.

However, the Turkish Government WILL NOT hire any woman who is wearing a Hijab in her ID photo, and women are not allowed to wear them on college campus. People are instantly judged for wearing or not wearing this one article of clothing, and the judging is sometimes violent.

Neopets has said, many times, No politics, No religion. I personally don't see any difference in posting this and posting... "My character is a Catholic girl in Northern Ireland, quite found of wearing the traditional celtic cross, her father is a Priest that teaches at the local catholic school which is on the Loyalist Protestant side of town..." Two Birds, one stone. Politics. Religion. Neopets says don't do it and you did.

If you want to roleplay this topic I would suggest finding some boards somewhere else, where the controversy you are looking to cause is allowed. Too many people are more than ready to argue this Topic in a religious and political way, and I do understand Neopets saying, nope, not here. But I am sure there are some roleplay boards that would Love to have you, and would have far fewer restrictions, allowing you to develop your character any way you like.

...Get down off the soap box already. You keep complaining about neopets, and this and that, yet you've never left up until this point. And now your account gets frozen for obviously bringing what could be controversy onto the site's forums.

While there is nothing bad about her intro, it can be seen as controversial.

Someone mentioned all those roleplays with Kings, Queens and the like - THOSE can get away with a bit of 'politics' because they exist in a purely fantasy world. Once you start naming one kingdom 'America', though, there is a chance something will start up.

Neopets is NOT a place for the real world, wether we like it or not. It's a fantasy setting, and I think they preffer having it that way.

But in any case, I think you're preaching to the wrong crowd here.

well roanna_np you asked for a parents opinion on whether or not we would mind our children reading your rp senario. and your answer in my opinion as a parent is YES I MIND ALOT !!! your posts on the rp boards and here at ppt are INAPROPRIATE FOR ALL AGES!! how dare you teach the children of the world it is ok to break the rules and then laugh about to other ppl.

i have children and if i ever catch someone teaching them to break the rule of even the law . lets just say it wont be a pretty site. and its inapropriate for older ppl to read because, as much as you would like to believe in your own little world, almost every thing you wrote is just a contraversial fight waiting to happen. if you dont like the rules or neopets then STAY OFF THE SITE!! and here at ppt we are pro neopets and DONT want to hear you bad mouth neopets.

its because of ppl like you that there is so much chaos in the world today. you were fairly warned about your actions on the neopets site and then still chose to break the rules. and in my opinion they should have frozen all your accounts a long time ago. now roanna_np do the rest of the neopets and ppters a favor :

I have to agree with everyone else here: if TNT sent you a warning, and you blatantly ignored it, then you were asking to be frozen. And from the other posts here, I've gathered that TNT had good reason to want that description taken down.

IT WAS WORTH IT TO BE FROZEN! IT WAS WORTH IT! IT WAS WORTH IT! I'm about to log in to my account now and play it as much as I can. I still have access to the games. I can keep track of the Neopoints myself and feed my pets and care for them on a board I created for that purpose long ago. As for Role Playing, there are outside boards for that or I can use another account on which I keep no pets if I'm desperate.

IT WAS WORTH IT! I even told Neopets that. I can even use their forms to play pretend after all that is what virtual pets are all about. I'm off to Neopets now, hippity hop and bippity bop! Away I go!
