Can anyone explain why the 2/3 and 1/3 omelettes are usually priced significantly higher than the whole omelettes? (in the shops)

Simple clever marketing scheme. You see, in order to obtain the packrat avatar people are going to go for items such as that. This results in usually overfeeding pets, as you need 3 whole omelettes in order to have a "set" (whole, 2/3, and 1/3). Once your pet is bloated and refuses to eat food your left to wait maybe even days until they'll take in more-- which is usually just 1-2 items. By then, keeping the amount of time in mind, people rather just buy off the sections.

Thanks, that's all I could think of, but it seems so.... strange. It's not like 3 pieces of omelette are hard to eat, and there aren't lots of flavors to collect.... It didn't take long for me to get complete sets of all the cheapies, eating bites as necesary. To pay 500 np to save a bite of ham and cheese...
And why spend all that time at the shop wizard to decide to charge 5, 10, or 20 np's for a leftover omelette?
It's pack-ratting that's leading me to these stupid questions. It's insane.

If you think the plight of omelettes are crazy with price gougers, just choose any item that is intuitively cheap, and play with the 'min price' feature on the wiz. I found green apples that were openly being sold for NP$50k and up. I know no one is going to buy those, but what kind of person actually prices an object that cheap for such a high price?
Edit: I know my shop has some crazy prices on a ton of objects, but really only for stuff I never expect to sell. Heck, I made most of my sells in snowballs and sand sculptures.

I know some of the newbies use the price listed in the description of the object as a guide for pricing their objects.

I would imagine many price their whole omelettes low just as much as partials, but people prefer to spend their money on a 3-serving omelette than equal money on a 2-serving omelette portion. So you view a market with a portion of it missing due to having been bought.

Partially eaten omelettes were more expensive than whole ones loooong before the pack rat avatar came out. I have no clue why, though.

Well back a long long time ago when the Time Machine was active, it asked for 1/3 and 2/3 omelettes, and that demand plus the low supply from people not being able to make their own (because their pet was bloated already) kept prices high.
But I think the reason now is just that no one bothers selling them, or even making them. I know I have about 500 omelettes in my sdb, and only about 10 of them are eaten. It's the huge difference in how many there are that makes whole prices low and partial prices high.

Think of it as being the tyrranian equivalent to Jhudora's, Illusen's etc. quests.

Give the mad scientist that was trapped back in time omelettes, and he'd give you his "junk" as a reward. He needed the omelettes to power his time machine you see.
Then he left.
