I'm thinking of quitting Neopets for now. Having worked really hard for everything, I don't want to come back finding all my stuff and pets gone. So what I'm wondering is, how hard is it to unfreeze a self-frozen account? Do I just email them saying "I froze my account a few months ago, and could you please unfreeze it for me?" plus a few random details about my account?

In my experience you need to have a lot of information when you try to get the account back, it seemed that not only did I have to prove that I knew the account but also that I was who I said I was.

You're going to need information on your items (what they are, where they are), books your pet has read, stocks, neofriends, etc (basically most of the stuff that people looking at your account from the outside would not be able to tell).

I ended up writing to them over 12 times, I'd almost given up when I decided to add some substantial information to the "Additional Information" box:
- I scanned a copy of my Proof of Age card in order to prove my Birthday was when I said it was
- I recalled all the prizes I got from various games (NQII) and from things such as wars
- I recalled the previous known accounts that my pets had been on before they were my pets

All in all, I found the process quite difficult and extreme. Other people don't find it that difficult. Just be careful and remember that it may take awhile to get the account back.

The biggest thing to be careful of is:
I believe there is a time limit on a frozen account, after the time limit is up Neopets will refuse to unfreeze the account no matter why it was frozen in the first place - eep!

If you're only quitting Neopets for now I would suggest not taking that risk. I'd probably just stick a "hiatus" message on your lookup, make sure your e-mail is correct and then change your password to complete jibberish (type lots of random letters in notepad/word first if necessary and then delete that document), that way you can't access you account until you send a password request, etc etc.

I would just recommend putting your pets in the Neolodge and letting your account sit instead. Who knows if they will unfreeze.

Just let your account, err, rot there: you never know when you could have that undesirable urge to go back...

Anyway, yeah, don't self freeze.

Never Self-freeze, when I fly between the states and Germany, I usally take a month long break. What I do is put all my Neopets in the Neolodge for the maximum amount of days, I put all my items that I'm carring in the SDB, put all my NP I'm carring into the Bank, I post on my guild that I'm going off for awhile, I put up the Offline Sign on my userlookup plus puting a message that I'm gone, then I usally just change my password to some mega hard thing to guess then I log off. Now that is what I call my temporary shutdown status.

I agree with everyone who says don't self-freeze. It used to be very easy to get your account back, but these days, well, ...

Just put your pets in the lodge, I would empty or unprice things in my shop, put all np in the bank, post on your guild board or just neomail your guild leader/council and trusted nf, make sure you don't have anything in trades/inventory and just take as long a break as you need.

I don't think I would even put anything on my lookup that I was going to be away/leaving. Just block everything.
