Hello Everyone,

Im sitting here shaking

Our account has been frozen, but I dont have a clue why...

I was sitting pricing stock on the wizard when all of a sudden I got logged out. When I tried to log back in I got the following message

Quote:
This account has been FROZEN for the following reason:

This account was attempting to scam other users out of items, Neopoints, Neopets, or their accounts.

We dont have neomail, nothing, cant send neopoints to anyone, as our account is under 13. We have never sent anything to another account either, nor have we got items send to us from anyone else. I am at a complete loss as to what could have caused this.

The very last thing I was doing was pricing items on the shop wizard.

The last thing I did was purchase a blobagus for 6500 while pricing them.. I was then logged out and when I tried to log back in got that frozen message.

I honestly have no idea in the world what we have done wrong.

I play with my 8 year old daughters and they are absolutely devasted. They dont have any real pets and their neopets are as real to them as real pets could be. They have a Baby Usul called Cutie Pie ( courtesy of Boochi) that they absolutely adore.

We have never done a thing wrong..

what could it be?

Thankyou so much for reading

SS:)

I'm sorry to hear about the lost. I'm also sorry to say the most you can do at the moment is fill out this form, from a link on the "contact us" link at the bottom of every neo page

http://www.neopets.com/autoform_other.p ... her=frozen

If you fill that out and explain what's going on you may have a chance at getting your account back.

Thankyou for the reply:) I sent the form in.. Does it take long to get a reply?

Im wondering what the cause could be.... what could I have been doing that they would think I was trying to take someones NP or account?

My daughters play a few games, and we trade items on the trading post. but we dont do anything that would warrant being frozen. We dont even restock, we make our NP from games, quests and buying/selling items in the trading Post/shop wiz.

I have no idea why this could happen?

Has this ever happened to anyone else without them knowing why?

Thanks again,

SS:)

LOL

I'm not laughing at your misfortune, but Neopets has a vast history reaching way back into its early days for freezing people without reason and warning. You could fill volumes with people who have been unfairly frozen. It's probably the number one reason people have to dislike or hate Neopets.

It may not take long for you to get an automated response, but some people have litterally gone for years without a human one. I don't have the emails on hand, but your best bet is to contact support staff directly, persistently, until you get an actual human reply. Since you're a mom, I'd say to go and snail mail them with the details of your account to prove ownership as they're more likely to respond to a real letter. Good luck.

Thankyou for the response :)

I also emailed a staff member who Id had prior contact with a couple of weeks ago about some trades I was worried about.. She emailed me back to say I had nothing to worry about and my trades were fine. So Ive written to her again...... Whatever has causing this freezing, must have nothing to do with my support question a couple weeks ago. I really have no idea what has gone wrong.

I am located in Australia, so it would take over a week to get a snail mail there. Ive been searching back through the articles here on PPT and happened to find Neos Phone and Fax number. ( Im so thankful PPT is here :)

Do you think It would be ok If I Faxed them?

Oh, my heart breaks for you. I don't understand how you could have gotten frozen for scamming people if you couldn't access neomail. And, your daughters must be devastated.

Both my husband's and daughter's accounts were frozen for nothing that they did wrong. And, both were successfully unfrozen within a week of writing Neopets about it. I wrote the letter on behalf of my daughter and helped my husband write his letter. His was sent to the corporate address; hers was emailed to a staff member.

Here are a few tips that hopefully will help:

First, the key to writing the letter is that you really only get one shot at it--so it has to be as good as it can--and you have to argue your case--like an innocent defendant in a jury trial. You didn't commit the crime and you have to somehow get that across to the staff member who reads your letter. If you really want your account back, treat the letter as you would a work-related project. It has to be clear, concise, persuasive, logical.

Next, make sure you are sincere and humble. Even though you did nothing wrong, don't be angry in your letter. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Realize that these staff members are overworked, underloved, and often the target of angry people. Ask them if they would please review the circumstances surrounding the freezing of your account.

Then, explain exactly what happened. The staff member reading your letter knows that you were frozen for "allegedly" scamming people out of neopoints, but doesn't know the circumstances. Give the date it occurred and give a synopsis of what happened on your account for the 24 hours before you were frozen. Trades, games played, anything you can remember.

Next, you need to realize that the staff member doesn't know anything about you. They don't know whether you are some nasty, evil person or a caring, responsible player. So, you need to write something that portrays you and your family as real people. When my daughter and husband's accounts were frozen, we gave our credentials--our profession, our ages, our address, phone number, employer's name--anything that showed that we were real people in the world--people who were responsible and wouldn't cheat at a game. For my daughter, I listed her school and grade, the fact that she was a honor student and in the local ballet company--also to show that she was a responsible kid who would not cheat. And also to show that if we were willing to give such personal information, they could check us out if they wanted and that we had nothing to hide. You might want to do the same. List that you are a parent who plays Neopets with your daughters. Give names, ages, etc.

Then be sure to explain why you would never cheat. Point out the fact that you have had the account for X of years, have Y number of neopoints (and anything else valuable--painted pet, battledome items), and would never risk all of that to cheat. And, be sure to state that you follow the rules. And, explain that you really thought that you were following the rules and really think you did nothing to deserve your account getting frozen. And, that if you did anything that was against the rules, you were not aware of it and apologize for doing so.

Next, you need to explain how what they allege (scamming people out of neopoints) couldn't possibly happen because you are on an under-age 13 account without access to neomail and posts on trades and in your shop--for the sole purpose of protecting your daughters at their young age..

Then end it with a sincere request that they review the circumstances surrounding the freezing of the accounts and that they please unfreeze the account. Thank them for their time.

I suggest that you fill out the automated form, but there is no way you can get everything you might need to say in that little bitty form. So, rather than wait for a response (which may, or may not, come), you should also send a letter, via the postal system, to the support department at Neopets corporate headquarters.

I would also suggest emailing staff members, but it appears that many of them have blocked incoming emails. However, you mentioned someone who helped you with a support issue in the past. I suggest writing that person and asking them to review your unwarranted freezing.
And, don’t just send it once and wait to see what happens. HollyPop got her account back after writing Neopets every day. Sending follow-up letters shows that your account is important to you and that you really want it back.

I wish you the best of luck. And, please let me know if I can be of any help, OK?

Heartfelt thanks for your reply Morningstar. :)

Ill wait a day or so to see if that staff member contacts me back. Last time when I asked about the trade I heard back quickly, so Im hoping she will write back very soon.

Ill definately take your advice though.

*Huge sigh of relief*

Today I got an email back from TNT saying that my account had been unfrozen.

Quote:
Hi,
I have checked your account and have lifted the Frozen ban on your account. You will have the same password as previous and I hope that you will be careful when trading with others. Have fun!

I still dont know what it was that I did wrong, I can only assume that I unknowingly traded with someone who was trading scammed items.

((((((hugs ))))) to Morningstar for her wonderful advice and support through this, Taking the advice you suggested most certainly paid off..

We have our account back, and now Im off to feed famished pets...

Yeah, if the staff member mentioned "when trading with others," it sounds to me as if you found a deal that was too good to be true.

Congrats :D

Thanks Shapu.... :) Only thing is,,,, I dont even recall any bargains.. There was no deal that was too good to be true, just uneventful trades. Id certainly remember it if I got a good bargain.... its so weird. I have emailed the staff member back to ask how I can safeguard against this happening again, since there is no way to tell where the items others are trading are coming from..

i agree, and also, quite unfortunatly (and hopefully accedentally), neopets freezes the wrong end of the problem. I have heard many stories of people being frozen for reporting an obcene neomail. Congrats on getting your account back, i didnt think it was possible!! i have tried on many occasions! i am very happy for you, loosing an account is a truly terrible thing, but getting it back is the best!

Congrats on getting unfrozen! I've been frozen for a year today. Well, I had one account frozen before that.. but let's say a year. lol.

I never got a reply from TNT about my accounts, only the auto-response things telling me why my account was frozen. -sigh-

Oh, and they froze my account for the same reason yours said. I would never scam anyone or anything of the sort.

YAY! you're de-iced :D

I was going to post that I found it odd that you had contact with support re: that trading incident where the person was suddenly frozen, but I note that you had gotten a reply saying everything was ok.

I'm going to take a wild guess here. The trade you made that you wrote about was in fact from a scammed account or a scammer's account (stolen from someone else) and it just took awhile for the "flag" to come up.

That you already had written AND gotten a response IMHO helped you immensely. First of all, there was a record of the event and second (most important to me), you had someone to directly write to about this.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your great good news. Hope you and yours have a great night!

*grabs ssandgirls in a big bear hug and swings her around* Oh, I am so happy for you!!!!!!! And, am so glad that I could help you by sharing what worked for me.

shapu and the others seem to be on the mark about the trades. When I first heard about it, I was wondering if it had to do with a trade. There have been a lot of over-inflaters on the past several weekends. They will buy up all of the item on the shop wiz on a Friday night and then the next morning, put it on the TP for several million. They have a few different accounts do this so it looks like several people think it is worth millions. Then they offer one of these items on a person's morphing potion/PB/rare petpet/expensive item and claim that it is definitely worth millions. And, anyone who doesn't know any better, checks the TP, sees all of the people (the same guy) selling it, and then accepts the offer. Then all of these poor people who have gotten duped put it on the TP and it sits and sits. Or, perhaps, thinking it is worth the millions the scammer said, they then offer it for trade on something of value. And, without knowing it, "dupe" another innocent person. And, perhaps get themselves frozen in the process.

I hope something like this didn't happen to you. Whoever is doing it uses just-released rarity 88-90 plushies and items that are rarity 101 (like hubrid nox badges, magenta Neopets mugs). I've been lucky enough to be "onto" this person(s) a few times and report him for scamming. And warn others about the hubrid nox badge, plesio plushie and space fungus plushie over-inflation.

There are also people who scam or autobuy and then dump the items, trying to make a few quick nps. That has happened to a few of my guild members. They will get offers to purchase a plushie worth millions for a fraction of the price. Then, before they can go ahead with the deal, the offeror's account has been "disabled." Probably a lucky thing for my guild mates. Or they might have been frozen for association with a scammer.

My best advice is to not trade for anything but pure nps, PB's, and/or easy to sell items that keep a consistent value (codestones, nerkmids, neggs, MPs, icetravaganza scratchcards, well-known BD items). And, to always remember that almost nothing under a rarity 94 or 95 is worth millions--never, ever, ever. Regardless of what anyone tells you. In fact, in the case of plushies, only a very few rarity 98's are worth millions. My guess is that it is pretty much the same for books, stamps, and the like. And things that are over rarity 100 are a little more tricky. Best advice is to write someone who has one in their gallery and ask them how much the item is worth--before accepting a trade.

Anyway, I am so happy for you, ssandgirls. Ah, this has restored my faith in the system once again. *hugs*
