Today I got an unexpected e-mail from neopets saying that they want me to be a moniter. So I replied the e-mail and i got accepted. Does anyone know what the advantages of a monitor or is anyone a monitor?

Not to be pessimistic, but I seriously doubt Neo is recruiting players to be monitors....

Who did this mail come from by chance? Sounds like someone is trying to scam you....

I don't think they can legally do that, are you quite sure it wasn't someone masking their email to make it look like it came from neopets? And if they spelled monitor 'moniter' you've definitely been had :-/

I believe that Neopets has to pay all of its employees--including monitors. I seem to remember someone on PPT mentioning that there is some sort of law in California prohibiting companies from having volunteers in the same category of job as paid personnel.

Therefore, my guess is that the email was a fake. Hopefully, they did not ask any personal information of you--such as your username, password, name, address, etc. If they did, I highly suggest changing passwords on all accounts, including your email, ASAP, and reporting this email to Neopets.

By the way, I just noticed that you have your MSN listed on your PPT lookup. This could very well be where the emailer got your email address. Because our user lookups can be accessed by anyone lurking on this site. There have been many scammer emails sent in the past to people who posted their MSN on their PPT lookup. My advice is to delete it. If anyone wants to MSN you, they can alway PM you and you can give it to them then.

I remember there was a thing that let you send emails under whatever email adress you'd like.

You can actually do it with most mail programs that are currently out (you can manipulate it so the address showing is competely different from your actual address.)

Neopets will never send out e-mails like that... they only e-mail you if they are from support (or something requested like a password) or if it's a newsletter and the like.

I get e-mail from "Ebay" asking me to update my information (credit card info as well as username, paypal, and email) but it is a fake. My account does not contain such information. While the url it takes you to looks like Ebay in the message and in the header, it is cleverly masked.

Be wary, and only use the official websites. I would not trust any mail unless it comes in neomail form FROM TNT.

They're doing that with a lot of bank sites too, this is one of the reasons identity theft is at large.

The United States and other countries where identity theft is big should do wide spread educations on catching scams, knowing what's fake and not, etc. It'd certainly be more effective than trying to stop the scammers themselves. As if people know how to avoid them, then the scammers would become obsolete.

x) I remember I put my MSN username on my lookup so people could IM me. I got about 10 emails from support asking for my information.

If anyone wants me to forward them the e-mail, PM me or post it here as I'll probably not notice the PM.

Even if the email to send back to wasn't a gmail (an obvious giveaway) and the email was spoofed (I understand it's quite easy to do - NO I don't know how) ... if you want to be a monitor or hold any other position at Neopets you have to contact THEM, you have to live in the area, there has to be an opening for the type of job you are looking for and you have to meet their criteria.

Your username/password I don't think would ever be part of the job application process. Plus, the addy for job applications is not support @ neopets.com

There have been alot of scam emails just in general lately. I don't know where they're all coming from. I know I've gotten 5 Paypal spoofed emails this week - and it's not on the email I use for my Paypal! I've also gotten the ebay spoof mail too. Those are usually a little bit easier -- there's usually a link in the email. If you put your cursor over the link (don't click) you'll see the real url and it's not ebay or paypal.

As the scammers, et al. get more aggressive and more clever, we have to all really be on our toes and report to whatever company these creeps are trying to impersonate.

I would definitely c&p the entire email, including any "technical stuff" (like Yahoo emails I see always have - the return path, etc.) and the address it allegedly came from and send it off to support. If that is, there is a way to report off-site things when you don't have a username.

For your own safer surfing, it's really a good idea to not have your email, IM, AIM, etc. available for just anyone to see and use. There are people all too ready to take advantage of that, plus if you were to post your email, there are bot programs that 'troll' forums looking for them.

After reading that, I would like to send jameswctb a little piece of my mind. It wouldn't be too pretty.

Weewoo, you ought to forward that to neopets. Particularly let them know of the email address the jerk posted. Maybe they can do an IP search and get this slimeball.

As proven earlier, it's a scam. You'd better report that gmail address while you're at it, too.

Who in the world would believe that?
