I was looking for some information on the ads on neopets to help my boyfriend with a project he is working on dealing with internet advertising. I wanted to get a quote from that Wall Street Journal article that appeared a few weeks ago, so I did a quick google search. One of the first things that came up was a site devoted to how horrible neopets is. I read some of the comments people wrote, and quickly realized that some are quite mis-informed and did not catch on that this site is a game. Now, some of those people who are mad, I can understand. But others just seem to be pulling things out of the air, or focusing on catch phrases.

Can anyone here maybe explain to me why people would devote so much time to hating a site that is supposed to be just a game? And not even a violent one, like the ones people point at everytime there is a school shooting.

Hmm, well, I suppose they dont understand the work it takes to MAINTAIN this site. With the many amount of users, troublemakers, updates and whatnot. I suppose it is rather hard to monitor 500,000 people on the neoboards at the same time.

because they don't have enough freedom (like swearing)

This one's so stupid and inaccurate it made me laugh. And Omni posted against them! *cheers*

There is an antineopets forum where people basically make fun of Adam, and post their anti-Adam images. They complain about the rules and talk about how dumb everyone on neopets is, using examples solely from the neoboards.

My guess is that it is made up of people who were frozen or were scammed while playing Neopets. Or people who did nothing but scam while on Neopets. And, of course, people who used to play Neopets, never were good at it or never put an effort into it, and now think it is "babyish."

According to my daughter, there were lots of kids in her jr. high class who played a few years ago and gave it up--for whatever reason. They now poke fun at people who still play the game--even though, at one time, they were totally addicted to it. It doesn't help that almost all of the Neopets advertising is geared to little kids. It makes it appear juvenile, when in fact it is far from it.

These people just don't know what they are missing--and obviously, don't have much of a life if the best they can do is sit around and make fun of a website that is undoubtedly one of the best--and most profitable--gaming sites around.

They can poke fun all they want at Adam and Donna, but those two were geniuses to think up something like Neopets--when nothing ever existed like it before and nothing still has even come close to competing with it. Laugh, laugh, laugh, you anti-Neopets site, but my guess is that Donna, Adam, and Mr. Dohring are laughing all the way to the bank with the profits they have made from their website. Perhaps someone should suggest to those bad-mouthing the site to come up with something better. I won't hold my breath.

Anticulture usually forms when an individual developes a focus (dislike or envies) on somebody else. The object of thier focus does not stay contained on that person, but also on what that person likes or dislikes. Sometime quite irrationally.

An example would be " I hate ____. S/He is so mean and self centered. Also obsessed with tricking people out of stuff on Neopets. Neopets sucks."

These guys are so contradictory. They say neopets is too kiddyish, that it's been dumbed down, then they complain the games are too hard. The games supposedly aimed at kids.

Just checked out their official forums (http://www.antineopian.com/ for those who don't know ), and I gotta say, some of that stuff there is bloody hilarious. Worth checking out is their Pro-Neopets section. Some pro-neopians have some actually decent posts expressing their opinions on what's good and what's bad about Neopets, and no matter how intelligent the posts are, most of these anti-neopians consider them to be 'narrow-minded' and 'idiotic'.

I've got one question for them. They dislike Neopets because it 'kills of the competition' and 'treats it's users unfairly'. If I asked how many of them used Microsoft products, I'm guessing at least 99% majority. And if Microsoft isn't the perfect example of 'eliminating the competition', I don't know what is. I admit I use Windows. Big whoop. I'm not trying to stop them.

I went to the guestbook, 3rd response down from the top is some person comparing Neopets to Nazi Germany. I promptly closed the browser. It's ridiculous and quite funny. I like how they are wasting their time with something they dislike rather than spending time doing something they enjoy.

I couldn't resist, I joined their forums. I want to know a bit about them, very interesting people *taks out clipboard and pen*. Very interesting specimen indeed.

Well neopets DOES kind of suck, but why on earth would you waste all that time making a whole frikkin website devoted to it? It sounds like some people need to get a new hobby.

Once I saw a site with reviews of a lot of Virtual Pets Sites like aftermathzone, subeta, petgamers and of course, Neopets. All of the other sites get nice ratings, but that person rates Neopets a 2/10. Then as you read more you find that the person's account (s) was/were frozen. The person spend sooo much time making soo many pages praising other pet sites to make Neopets look bad.
And some of them don't know how to make NPS, and keeps saying "Neopets Suck, somepetssite is much better, you can easily make currencyname and paint ur pet." And they don't spell.

People on those forums complained about the boards and chatspeaking, yet many of them were doing it.

I don't get why they complained about strict rules. So what if you can't swear on a virtual pet site? Why do you even need to?

Also, I know inflation has become bad, but I feel pleased to acheive a goal, with all my work put into it, if you want something, you work for it, and I believe you feel better about it at the end of the day.

Other pet sites? For some reason, I signed up to Zetapets, and I found it much more complex and incomplete compared to Neopets. They have 4 games, of which two provide some challange. Neopets, admittidly, is the better site. At least we aren't asked to make a PayPal donation, that would have them up in arms.
