2nd biggest complaint: having 2 banners + lots of wasted space at the top. I think the introduction banner should be redesigned, made about 1/2 its current height, and incorporated into the yellow bar below the ad banner to conserve vertical space. Yeah it would be a pain to redesign every one of those banners, for every game, etc. but it would be worth it. Some don't look so good anyway, for example the Snowager one with no black border, just slapped on the page.

Yes. That's actually my biggest problem with the thing. Get rid of the page head banner, please! Maybe replace it with something more useful, as I suggested in the last thread....

I don't know the person it belongs to, I just randomly happened to find it.

This is what the two lookups mentioned here look like to me in Firefox: really horrid. They may look great in IE, but this is why I hate that users can customize the page to this extent. :x

They look similarly screwed-up to me, too, and I use IE (with 1024x768 screen resolution).

To Snarkie the Code Monkey:

There is an error in the new toolbar, since every page on Neopets now has errors in it, and the only thing that could cause that would be the new toolbar.

Error message:

Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: Object Expected
Code: 0

I agree with what several people have posted so far. I either: scroll down as soon as the page starts to load or ignore/block the ads out completely so the top bar "shouldn't" be a big deal to me. However, I'm also concerned about the "physical" ailment problems because I get dizzy when there is too much movement - which is why I usually scroll down fast on most pages. Guess Neo will be added to that list!

I have high speed internet so the loading speed isn't an issue but I don't like the space the top banner and the page banner takes up on most pages. I recently changed my resolution so that when I played the non- flash games (pyramid, bildge dice etc...), the info I needed was all there on my screen but now on those same games I have to scroll down again. Sigh... so frustrating. I hope that NP doesn't lose a lot of players because of some of these changes! :(

On the positive side, I do love the clock because I go to the employment agency ALL the time and it's made my Pet's life much easier when trying to get a job!! (Fluffiebinker LOVES to work). And the side banner changes are good too.

Kudo's <3 to TNT for constantly trying to balance the good with the bad. You can't please all the people all the time I guess but if the majority says nay then you have to take that into consideration! :peace:

My biggest problem is the loading time. I have broadband, but it's still annoyingly slow when I tryto play games like bilge dice or pyramids. Which thenew top banner, the site's too cluttered. Ifeel sorry for people with dial-up.

Why does neopets need a huge banner to links on THEIR OWN SITE. I've heard there's e-bay ones, but neopets needs to just go and put it in the the button underneath the usernames, not makea huge banner at the top. It's way too distracting, and it drastically slows thingsdown. It's too animated. It wouldn't be so bad if it was just a still image.

Most of the sponsor ads are static however. I have to agree that I feel that they're distracting, slow and way too big (the side button catches my attention as it is) I use a slower computer and I see a bit of lag in it all (even more than during the beta)

*shrugs* But I assume it's all Neo's new view on adverts so much can't be done about it.

Yeah i'm on a dual T-3 line and even with the supposed changes to speed up the page downloads the site has been too slow to be usable ever since the new side bar went up. It takes ages to load images, even the ones (like my pets) that i have cashed on my machine.

When you add the dramatic degradation in performance to the hidious banner ad that makes using the site difficult (I really really hate the top banner ad.) I think that if some changes or compormises to it are not made i'll probably quit once i finish NQII. It makes something that was fun just not worth my time.

Images + flash are not affected by mog_gzip at all (they're compressed already, there's no point in recompressing them). The "how fast the page appears" factor depends on many things, including how your browser renders pages.

You don't cash images.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but ever since the new toolbar, Cheat has been looking weird. Everything's pushed over to the left side when I play it, like so:

Little Timmy
the Tuskaninny
accused you of
cheating, but
you were NOT
CHEATING!

That's not an exact replication, but I think you get what I mean.

EDIT: Never mind, it's fixed now. Hmm...

No, I never officially left; yes, I am gone forever. I have also permanently left AIM. If you need to contact me, drop a line on LJ. Same username.

The point I was makng is the new tool bar is slowing things down more than the changes are speeding things up. I use multiple browsers and al of them are having the same -- "the site loads at the speed of a limping snail" problem

I'm sorry I can't spell cache -- sigh my computer architecture teacher was just yelling at me for that.

Has the top part of the new toolbar gotten smaller? It looks smaller to me today. I might just be going crazy...
