Anyone notice the Lenny Library coming soon featured in pet central? I'd think that would be neat to read stories while I'm wiz or shop banned for an hour.

*Sigh* I have 13 plushies (in real life). I still love them. But suddenly, I'm afraid that they will be the only thing I like about neopets anymore. I don't like the site right now. What if the actual plushies look a little different after this? that would be weird. I guess I would buy plushies anyways, I don't want to support them if they don't care about me.

Strange, how much a web site effects my life. I was sad about it, and I tried to tell myself 'it's not so bad. It's just a web site'. Then I started to cry, because it's not just a web site. I feel like I've lost a friend. (And trust me, I know what that feels like. It is not a good feeling.)

I know this sounds odd, but Neopets is in my life more than I realized. I like to write, and, going through my files I found that over half of the stories I've written are about Neopets. Everytime I walk into my room, the Neopets are one of the first things I see.

*sigh* This. is. not. good. Should there be a petition? I guess not, they never did anything about those in the past. What did we do to deserve this?

I used to have a really cool siggy, but people started ignoring my messages and only commenting my signature so I took it away.

Probably because most of the coding in the userlookups and shops don't work anymore.

No, I'm playing Neoquest(though I might have to quit, as it's giving me a headache), and I'm moving much faster than usual.

Really? I've shopping for Neohome stuff and thinking to myself, "Is it just me or is the site slower than usual?"

What will be the difference between the lenny library and the neopian times and the neopedia? I don't know what it is. Maybe the staff will have their own version of the times or something, and they will write little stories for us? Or what? And how is that different from the neopedia?

Ahhh reminiscences *sigh*

I joined the site just prior to the LDP so in real terms I am still pretty much a newbie. That was one of the most exciting online experiences I've ever had and if it hadn't been for that plot I would never have been hooked on the site as much as I am now.

But that's just it. To so many users neo is more than just a game (maybe it shouldn't be, who knows). It's a site many have grown from childhood to adulthood with, endured glitches, learnt to save, learnt how not to be scammed and taken in by people, made amazing friends and crossed the Atlantic to see them, even married other users.

The user was always put first and now it just feels like any other site I could be on and that makes me sad.

I would never quit neo because I am a game addict for a start and leaving behind my friends who have dragged me through so much (including my dad's cancer last year) is not an option, but I just can't feel the same passion I used to for the site...I guess it's that straw that broke the camel's back thing.

Edit

*tacklehugs right back*

I should have been on this site more often but with three guilds and too many boards to read there's never enough time in the day!

Kitty, you are not alone, whatsoever. It doesn't sound odd. Many of us are into Neopets more than we ever dreamed of when we first became members. And, ha, I am a mom, who should be cleaning my house more and playing Neopets less. So, I guess what I am saying is that it is OK to cry.

Funny how we get so attached to our pets and this website. But if you think about it, we've invested countless hours into the game. And those hours are worth something. Because we easily could have been doing something else with our time. So, it isn't just a silly game. It represents, at least to me, countless hours that I devoted to it--learnining how to master the game. No different, in my opinion, that someone learning how to play and master chess.

EDIT: Man, I've never seen flaming on the premium charter boards before until now. Phew. Makes me glad I've got PPT to come to.

54 Months.
I've been playing Neo for just over 54 months.
I've complained a lot in that time. And I mean a lot!.
I've written terrible poetry to emphasize the writer's lack of originality and style [1].
I've made a stupid wee sprite drawing to emphasize my anger over stupid systems they've had in the past.

But this...this is it.
This is the worst thing they've ever done.

I remember the April Fools Prank back in 2003. I remember thinking "Haha! That'll never happen."

Well it has. It's actually, somehow, managed to happen in a way that's worse than their fake Neopetz. Somehow, Neopets have managed to personify how little they seem to care for the users anymore.

Neopets used to be different. It used to have a buzz, an energy in it. I could get lost in its little world for hours on end. It was something to look forward to playing after school, work or whenever.

When the Chat changed to the Neoboards, I complained. I made a huge fuss.

When the moderators froze most of the Help Chat regulars for being "off-topic" (despite the fact that we always answered questions asked - just in a quirky manner no different to the sorts of posts you see here), rather than the people that spammed, and cheated, and hacked Neopets - I made a huge fuss. I complained to every editorial 3-4 times a day. I sent complaints. I made boards about it. I put angry notes in my lookup. I made so much fuss that I was actually given a warning that expressly stated if I continued on the boards, I would be frozen and that it was my final warning.

When the site changed layout, I complained. I didn't like the banners. I didn't like the new sidebar.

When they increased the ad size on the new layout, I made another huge fuss. I found articles quoting Doug Dohring proudly displaying their huge revenue levels. I ridiculed their reasoning that they couldn't stay in business without the larger ads.

After major glitches, major stuff-ups, I complained.

After 99% of the redraws, I complained.

I've complained about practically everything on Neopets. But I never truly hated it. I understood that things change, and we have to deal with it. In fact, despite my complaints, I've always stuck up for Neopets. I've always defended it. I've had my gripes, both large and small. I've been angry at Neopets. I swear I've "quit" more times than I could count. But I've always defended them.

When people paraded other pet sites, who claimed to be better than Neopets, I've always shot them down in flames. I've gone to those sites, found all their flaws and brought them up so evidently, that people would think they're crazy to consider that site. But this, this is a change I can't defend.

If somebody came on today and said their pet site was better than Neopets, I'd propbably find little to be able to prove them wrong about.

What happened to Neopets?
Its gone.
Nothing about the site is anything like the Neopets I remember.

I know, I know, I'm one of them crazy old men sitting in the bar, reminiscing about the glory days - but in my defense, it's all there is left for me on Neopets.

I know many people will like the site change, many people will adapt to it. But its not Neopets. Its not the old site. I usually accept changes, but this has dragged Neopets down.

The site reminds me of a business site. Its not a fun site for tennagers to play on, or adults to play on. Its a cold, faceless organisation that seemingly have targetted everything good about Neopets and systematically destroyed it.

Why is it, that a change this huge did not ask for opinions first? I remember the days when Neopets would poll people for a redraw of a pet. Why is it that the users have so little say in the site now.

The editorial has become a FAQ. The same questions appear time and time again. Questions that are already answered on the site. What happened? Why do we hardly ever see suggestions being addressed? Why is it that the sole function of the editorial seems to be a FAQ and a Bug Report system. I'm sick of seeing "OMG! TNT you rock! How do I feed my pet???/?"

Why is it, that Neopets can recognize the fact they've changed some pets drastically, but not recognize that they've changed other pets minorly, and in doing so, they've ruined the personality of that pet. If you can give some people the choice whether to customize their pet or not, why not give everybody that choice?

I don't like the pets anymore. Whenever a redraw of a pet was created, I always joked that the Neopets were getting more and more childish. It seems Neopets stopped the slow takeover, and pushed for a full-forced invasion. I'm struggling to find a single pet I like. Every pet has lost its flair, its style. There are some good things to come from the system, but come on TNT. Did you really think this would go over without people complaining?

Did you really think people would want to see their pets, who most have struggled hard to obtain, ruined?

Did you really think the people that petition for the most minor of changes to be revoked wouldn't want some say on what the site is going to look like for the years to come?

Did you really think, completely redoing the userlookup, pet's description, shop and gallery pages without any warning would be accepted with open arms?

Did you really think the people who have spent a fair portion their time on Neopets reminiscing about the non-"cutesy" days would be silent on this "modernization". We don't wan't another cluttered, "high-tech", faceless corporation for a site. We wan't the old Neopets back.

It was a site designed for the user, for the bored college student. For the adult after a long day. For the kid after school. Now, its Miniclip, with a few more ads and a bunch of overly cute, Nickelodian styled Neopets.

Alan Moore sums up my feelings about Neopets so well.

Quote:
I'm thinking about taking my family and getting out of this country soon, sometime over the next couple of years. It's cold and it's mean spirited and I don't like it here anymore.

RIP Neopets.

Awww Kitty, that is exactly how I feel.

It's not the new site layout or the pet redraws that are making us feel like this, not by a long chalk. It's the way it's now being run in general.

While the site may look cooler, I am upset and confused. I am upset because the site doesn't fit my screen resolution and I have to side-scroll CONSTANTLY! I am confused because... EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED!!!

Maybe this is just a late april fools joke that they worked really hard on... right?

:(

My old siggy expired.
I need a good siggy :(

OK, no offense to anyone who likes AFI, or anyone who is into alternative/glam rock (cause I actually like both--ask me about my love of Kill Hannah sometime), but is it my imagination or does that gelert not look a little like AFI's lead singer Davey Havok?

I actually like it, I think it looks good. A lot of the people don't like it, some even said they are quitting neopets cause of it. I think it's unfair to TNT, they put alot of time into it and some people don't realize that, they just care about wether or not they like it. Months of planning and work went into this and they are knocking it down after a few hours.

Just for curiousity's sake, how long have you been playing Neopets? No offense, but it might be easier for someone who hasn't been playing that long to adapt to this than for those of us who have been playing for several years. There has never been this drastic a change in Neopets in the entire 4-1/2 years I've been playing. And gosh, they have never redrawn all pets all at once like this before. I remember when the new kougra came out a few years back and people were up in arms over it. Such an outcry that Neopets ended up letting us vote on a new version. It is much different now that Viacom owns the site.

I've been playing for a few years, about as long as you have

Sadly, moving out of the country means self freezing. I could probably do that if I weren't so attached to my pets. I could still draw them and pretend somehow they still existed. But that is a sad step to take. If only there was a way to just boycott the site or do something drastic to get their attention. But it won't happen, because many New Member will still join. They'll be happy with the new site, never knowing any better, and how it used to be.

I like it but it has completely disrupted how I play Neopets.

I had "My Favorites" anchored to the left hand side of the screen - this made it fantastic to roam around Neo, but now the screen resolution is so big I have to take away my favourites to fit the page on the screen.

The design seems 'busy', it is harder to find things - maybe because it is new, but also I think because it is not logical to have certain things where they are:

The clock is so tiny and stuck in the top right corner - it is almost useless now. Why have Neofriends on the main page - I don't need to know who is and isn't online right at the moment.

The design for Neopets is now much better than the Portal (looks like a distant poor cousin). Seeing how long your neofriends have been on is a Premium benefit, why does everyone else have to have it?

Why give us sidebars and now practically take them away? - I had no idea that was myToW sidebar when I first opened Neo.

One of the most used features on the sidebar for me was the Search box, now it is stuck at the bottom of the page.

It would be better to have the clock and Search back on the sidebar and put Neofriends or something else down the bottom.

Why is Stealth no longer working? I PAY for that priviledge and TNT have discarded it.

TDG, I understand EXACTLY what you mean. I haven't been on Neopets as long as a lot of people who remember "the good old days," but I really remember the days when they made things personal, when they made things informal in so many ways.
I'm going to see how this plays out, but I may well be leaving the site myself. There seems to be no attempt at maintaining loyalty from older users, and I'm sick of taking second place to two-week-old accounts. They'd better come up with some good responses to our complaints, and those responses had better be something along the lines of, "Okay! You can have the old pet pictures back while we work on redraws!" or "Okay! Here's the Classic look to use until we work the kinks out of the layout!" or "We're sorry! Here's a million bucks!"

Aww, the_dog_god, you need a hug. You said it so perfectly. So many of us are so sad and so ticked off. And feel helpless. Cause there used to be people who would listen to us. Heard our concerns. Implemented our ideas. Explained their actions. At least those of us who have been PPT members for awhile (which was a place that Adam, Donna, Snarkie, and other staffers would hang out from time to time). And that is all gone. I'm sorry that this had to happen. Cause I hate seeing such sadness when so many of us used to get so darned happy about this site.
