thank you, I really wanted to do this before going to work. :)

No problem. The constellation this time was a lot easier than it has been to find.

Yes, it was easy to find this time. But what about the next constellation? It might be hard, and they kinda seem to be getting harder as we go on.

News has updated for Friday. Anyone found a new constellation yet?

That is last night's news. It is always dated the next day. The news that is tonight's, will be dated April 8-9 for the weekend. They started posting a day ahead, to give everyone in all time zones an equal chance at the new stuff

Sorry. Just a bit frustrated 'cause it looks like I got the map bug. Still can't find Dancer and my map did not expand. Will probably be one star behind until it gets fixed, if ever. :x :(

Fri Apr 07, 2006 4:54 pm

Does that mean that the next one is going to be put up tonight (your time) as the last one was done 2 nights ago (yesterday morning my time)

Fri Apr 07, 2006 4:56 pm

You say your constellation didn't update? I found that I had to see the Lenny archivist and get his praise for finding the new star pattern each time before my constellation updated. If I did all the other steps and got the star pattern, but didn't see the Lenny before going to the telescope, my star pattern didn't update and I spent quite awhile figuring it out the hard way. Your mileage may vary, of course, and I'd be happy to learn that not everyone has the same problem as me.

It's usually put up about 6:30 pm or so Neopets time. For me personally, that is about 9:30 pm tonight

map bug or star drift? when I went to look for the dancer, I originally looked at the coordinates that I got from Stooder's Constellation Finder the last time that I looked and the coordinates were wrong... so I went and grabbed my star data again and re-ran it through the Constellation Finder and my coordinates for the dancer were different. All of my found constellations were in there, but the location of the dancer was indeed in a different place.

i had to run my coordinates thru again for the dancer as well. but a plus was it found some more constelltations for me :D

Any theories about the grumpy leader of all the clubs (minus Astronomy Club)? The Archivist mentioned about how the Dance Club leader looked remarkably like the dude that ran all the other clubs...suspicious :P

He has said that they are all the same person. I'm not convinced this has any significance, though - I think it's just an interesting extra.

if your star data hasnt changed, try deleting the cookies on your computer. maybe its just me, but my computer keeps them for too long so i have to delete them every time. if that doesnt work i cant think of anything.

Hehe sounds like you played Morrowind :D

No no see, here's the story *ahem*:
There are two omnipresent beings currently in Altador, one good, one evil. The evil one is obviously the Janitor... he killed/stonified/put into a cryogenic chamber'd the heroes and took over Altador. BUT see to make sure the citizens from Altador doesn't rise up and overthrow him he made them forget and also sealed off Altador from the rest of the world so they don't find out. He is also ALL the club leaders, aye yes you read right, why else would they just be so mean for no reason.

No see the good god (whomever he is) he's been beaten by his evil brother and so his power is limited, he is trying to save Altador from his evil brother's grasp and so he used most of his power to open the portal form Altador to Neopia and now (because he's so weak) he can only help us through vague clues. :> P10t 0wn3d!

Well....while they wouldn't work exactly on that a coordinate map, they wouldn't work on cardinal directions either. The y-axis is correct in working with positive and negative numbers but the x-axis shouldn't ever go negative and obviously if it was real it would work with degrees (or radians) so it shouldn't go past -180,180 (or -pi, pi) on the y-axis and 0,360 (or 0,2pi) on the x-axis. {If we are going to nitpick now :)}

Edit: Gah...bloddy typos.
Edit2: Grrrrrrr...bloody

ooooooh I like your thinkin.... I played it a little but I never got to terribly into it.... I should though.
but yeah so far we Know two things about this plot The Janitor is evil and I am going to end up ruling neopia with an Iron fist .....and bullwhip OBEY MY FIST!!!

Partially correct. Longitude and latitude are coordinates - geographic coordinates, to be specific. They're used to depict points on a two-dimensional surface.

Real starmaps are three-dimensional and a single point, such as a star, would be represented by three coordinates, not two, the third to show depth or distance from the observer.

wesoloid wrote:Rotation of Neopia would cause all the stars to move more or less together (though some might move as much as 3/3600ths of a degree more or less than others, due to their distance from Neopia) and the change would be noticeable within a few minutes, not sporadically over the course of days. Due to rotation, the stars would sweep across the entire sky at the rate of approximately a degree per 4 minutes. Due to revolution around the sun, the stars would change their position by about 1 degree every day, meaning that if you observed a star at 8:00 pm on one night, the next day it would be in that exact same point at 7:56 pm.

I believe this may be what TNT is trying to say when they mention stellar drift. Except that's the wrong term. I'm sure that what you mentioned above has a proper term.

wesoloid wrote:Anyway, my point is don't let them fool you into thinking this a real astronomy club. The "stellar drift" is just a way of saying "we don't want you mapping out the entire list of constellations ahead of time."

I agree. Stellar drift, not to be confused with cosmic expansion, isn't noticable to the eye until thousands of years have passed. For instance, the Age of Pisces began around 498 AD, meaning that the sun rises in the constellation Pisces. This Age will last until after 2600 AD, when the sun will rise in Aquarius, heralding the Age of Aquarius. That is due to stellar drift.

I think it's admirable for TNT to attempt to teach something about astronomy and astrology, but when you set out to do that you have to be careful to get the terminology right.

Which begs the next question - shouldn't this be an Astrology Club?

Then again, it's only a game...only a game...only a game...
