Come to think of it, did encounter a shop that when I tried to buy a codestone, an error page came up saying that this is a scam. A few hours later, saw the earlier post hear about Kaos and his work. Immediately changed my password....

Yeah, this whole thing's giving me more incentive to remain lazy and not finish Tunnack's BC entry by Friday. I don't think I'll be reentering my Ogrin, either. I did absolutely no advertising last week because of the CG scare, and this week's not shaping up to be any better.

I'm just curious: how long have cookie grabbers been an issue on Neopets? I was browsing through some older posts, and they seem to suggest that this problem's been going on for months, if not years.

As far as I know, CGing has been going on for awhile. "Kaos" showed up a few weeks ago, and in the past 3 days, became high-profile.

Cooke grabbing has been going on for years, but only recently were they able to put them on site. Before that, there was only a few of them around and they were always offsite (usually on those fake login pages, even if the person doesn't add their word - and instead types things like "YeahrightlikeI'dfallforthis - the cookie grabber got them)

Avatar somebody figured out how to get around the no javascript rule on Neopets, the grabbers became really bad. Before then, they were easy enough to avoid and protect yourself from

Would it be so very hard to add a Javascript sniffer to the filters Neopets already uses to scan for off-site URLs when you submit a user lookup (etc) to their server? I mean, it screams about a link to Jelly World, for heaven's sake - can't they just disallow ANY Javascript on those user-customizeable pages?

I have slightly encouraging news to Premium users.

Today I went ahead and did an assignment for one of my classes... if we found something we didn't like, and had a decent reason, we were supposed to call and complain about it. I've been having issues with my Premium this week (I pay with credit card, and it's been flickering ads on and off for the last few days) and was upset about the CG's possibly grabbing my password, giving them access to my rl information.

So I called to speak to somebody about the issues and recieved the following information. Useful, I think, even if it's more or less stopped at the moment... it gives us something to go by later should something like this happen again.

Yes, if a CG grabs your password and you are a premie, they can access your real-life info (bad). But that can be okay by you putting in a fake address! (umm, huh?) Of course... if you pay by credit card, you can't, because it's supposed to be your billing address, and if for some reason they followed up on your card, and the billing addresses were different, they would contact your card company about a possibly stolen card. (uh...huh. so how does having a fake address help me?) They will not be held accountable for your information being leaked anywhere by anybody.

I questioned them about my concerns and was told to avoid areas where there could be cookie grabbers. I told them that could be several places, and that severely limited the playability of the site, especially if a mod account could be cookie-grabbed. Response? Take my chances. I told them I don't want my address, phone number, etc. in jeopardy. Response? Don't play for a while until it's sure that this had died down. I told them I wasn't going to pay for something that I couldn't play without fear of losing security. After that statement, and a few moments on hold, I was told that should anything happen to a premium account that caused loss of playability due to something like this, money would be refunded right away.

I do, at least, feel a little better now.

Whoa, I log in after a weekend away and yikes! I hope that TNT tracks this person/people down and fines them or something. The threat of identity theft is very worrying <_>

They have shut down editing petpages, I hope that's a good start. I have a backup of my petpage code just in case they clear all petpages.

I hope you got the name of whoever it was that told you that. Because I have a feeling you'd really have to put up a gigantic stink to get them to honor it.

While I haven't specifically looked for it in the neopets premium area, I would be somewhat surprised if you could view credit card or address information from within the account. Obviously you provide it for registration, but most sites that I'm familiar with won't then put it back into the profile where it can be looked at, for this very reason I'm sure. One thing I did note was that I couldn't find any way to cancel premium service from the web, only had a phone number. That doesn't seem right to me, but whatever. Will worry about it if I decide to cancel I guess:P

I'm really good at putting up a stink though, once I'm told something. Really, really good. I'm almost tempted to go and see if I can get my account grabbed to see if it's true...

but then I remember that I LIKE being in neopia, and feel stupid for saying that and tempting the fates, and I kinda feel bad for what they have to worry about now, so I'm just going to do my dailies and be happy with it

I hope they find this person and tar and feather them. I did the things ppt suggested I chages my password and loged out of the site, and on sitting in my empty back up acount warning my guild about the problem.

People like this make me sick, what do you have to gain form hacking a game account? Other then to test a CG for bigger thinks like getting my online backing info. well I have not logged in to that since I last scaed my computer I think.. oh this makes me mad...
