Actually, if they are paying $8 a month for it, I would like them to get more. I am speaking as a non-premium member, before anyone asks. $8 is a nice chunk of change and I think if they are willing to pay it, they should get their money's worth.

We can't really afford the extra right now, especially since it's the holiday season, but I don't think I'd pay that much even if we could. If they add more, I'd consider it, but not the way things stand now.

Let's keep on topic, because it'll be a hassle to trudge that all up again, and I'll fly in to a fit of apopletic rage if I have to think about that whole mess again.

Yeah, let's not cause Fidds to fly into a fit of apoplectic rage. *hides under bed*

It all depends on how you look at it. $8 a month is almost $100 a year. I can think of other things I'd rather spend $100 than Neopets Premium. Especially when I can get the chief perk -- no ads -- for free by spending a few minutes getting friendly with my userContent.css file. :-)

Does that mean that people are getting too little for their $8 rather than too much? Hard to say. I think the question isn't whether people who spend the $8 a month "deserve" to get more than anyone else, exactly. The question is what having paying customers will do to Neopets as a whole. Some free sites do fine when they start adding perks for paying customers, some fall apart. No one wants to see Neopets fall apart.

I'm pretty sure that they have another pricing package where you can pay 40$ and get premium for a year. So you don't really have to pay 100$ for a year of it if you know that you'll keep it for a whole year.

I'm finally back for the summer, although hopefully I'll spend a little more time away from this screen.

Well, if you were a beta tester, I think you get it for $4 a month. -_-

See, now that I think I would pay. It seems a bit more reasonable. Unfortunately, it's not the price everyone gets.

I can't buy it now, and I'm not sure if I want to, yet or if it is worth it, or if I'll be playing it a year from now.

I can see their side: If someone had a dream and created something, they would like to be paid for it right? I would. who wouldn't? They have to pay for their employees, services, computers, bandwidth etc... Even the programs they use, such as flash are no cheap programs. Not to metion the merchandice costs, franchises, whatnot.

Also the better the funding, the better equipment they can afford, and the more staff they can hire. Also the more efficantly they can run their business. Neopets is a business afterall ;)

Donations and merchandice are nice ways of making money, but seriously with the number of people on neopets today, they can't run by donations alone. To get what they need, people would have to be willing to donate each month and consistantly. To the TNT, it would be better to offer a service for those "donators" At least that's what they are thinking now, I think.

But as a lowly member I see the negative side. It happens to a number of free sites. What will happen to neopets I don't know. I personally don't think they'll be able to keep their promise that premium members won't get special benifits that will "hurt" the free members. If their premium service fails to encourage enough people to sign in, then they will have to up the ante. They will have to make something to encourage more people to sign up. If that means a paint brush or a neopet, then it will have to be. Or it could be cutting back on the free service.

If enough people are abusing a feature such as the boards, why not disable it for the free service entirly? That way they can scrutanize members before they register and "weed out the scammers, spamers, beggers, flamers etc.

As for me :? I sit on the fence. I rather not pay for service, but I really dislike the ads (ipod one is the worst. it displays two or 3x overlapping and fails to let the rest of the page to load without refreshing)

I think I will play neopets and then slowly let my interest fizzle and give up as soon as I am bored or my account gets frozen.

I am fairly disaapointed with their help support. I send bug reports and whatever responses they send have nothing to do with the bug. On the positive side, I see that some of the bugs I reported they fixed. The clock when they moved the UL used to extend down to the search (on a mac anyways). They fixed that after I sent a screen-shot.

BTW I can't try out for the trial. it says it's restricted to a limited number of members :(

I'm on the premium trial right now (thanks to the link in the first page of this post) and I'm REALLY in love with the portal. If they had a connection with google to get a google search engine on it, I would use it as my homepage indefinately.

I don't do much on the internet other than my own business, webdesign and neopets, so spending 10$ CAD a month for something I spend over 30 hours a month on is worth it. 10$ is just one hour at work, 1 hour I usually spend ON neopets :)

As a grad student with a lot of student debt, I will never be getting premium and I can say that it annoys me to know that people will be getting certain advantages because they can pay $8/month. $100/year can go to paying of my student loans quicker.

I can block the banner ads for free and the rest of the stuff? Not worth my $8, from a site that's supposed to be FREE, TNT is sure seeming like it is favoring those that can afford their over priced premium accounts. I could see paying a couple bucks a month but there's no way I could afford more than that.

With everything TNT does I'm growing more and more disenchanted and ready to leave Neopets for good.

It's all about priorities sweetie...I'm in college right now, paid for out of my own pocket, not mommy and daddies like many of the college students that live around me. I still budget enough to pay for Neopets. I just don't eat out one night or don't go see that movie. It's just something that some people are willing to do and some people are not. And it's obvious that enough people are willing to do it for them to be able to continue it at the price that it is.

:P Meowth, you have Premium!? :P

Um... well, when I'm in college and if I'm still obsessed with Neo, I'll be able to pay for it because the state of Florida pays for 100% of my college tuition, plus dorm and lab fees, books, and a $50 a month allowance. All for maintaining a 3.5 GPA and doing 75 hours of community service.

Florida is cool. 8)

As it is right now, I don't think I'd be interested in paying even $8 a month for premium access. I've gone 2+ years without using the neoboards, and doubt that I'd start, even with the spammers and scammers gone. If they gave other perks, I might think about paying, but right now, there's no way I'd pay for neopets.
That being said, I don't think that the so called "advantages" really unbalance the game. If nobody had made this board, would you even know that premium members got the premium-only board? So far, I haven't heard anything that indicates that premium members have a better chance of being successful at neopets than I am right now. (Even "increased" random events-- if before, they were 1 click in 5000, with premium, they're probably 1 in 2500. And they're probably still mostly the "a red scorchio flies by and says 'hi'" or whatever.)
