NOTE: This guide is written assuming you have no experience with the gears. If you have been trying to get the gears to work for a while now you might be able to skip parts of this guide.
Also, the ceiling mechanism might 'break' at any point during this, and if it does, just start over. It took me a few tries.
I have heard rumors that after a certain number of click the gears will break but I am not sure if this is true.
Ceiling Manipulation 101:
Ok, first of all you have to have three rocks. If you don't have three rocks, please look somewhere else as I'm not going to explain how to get them, because I honestly don't even know what I did to get my three rocks.
The idea is that there is a set of gears in the basement, and that mysterious button that has been on the wall near the janitor activates those gears and closes the ceiling of the Hall of Heroes.
What you're trying to do is find the last constellation, and you have to find the pattern of stars like you did with all of the other constellations before you can look through your telescope and find it. The pattern of stars is partially on the ceiling and partially on the floor of the Hall of Heroes, which means you have to manipulate the gears with your rocks in order to make the ceiling close to the exact right position (almost fully open on one side, but not quite.
To see the ceiling, go into the Hall of Heroes, then up the stairs, then click the button to go back into the Hall. You will now see the ceiling.
Now go to the Janitor and he will tell you about the basement and how he hates going down there, etc.
Right-click the button next to the janitor and open it in either a new window or a new tab.
Now click the button below the Janitor that says 'Visit the Basement'
You will see an image with 10 clickable gears (there are more gears, but only 10 are clickable). It's best to figure out where the gears are that are clickable so you are familiar with them before you start. Just hover your mouse over the gears until you get the 'hand' mouse letting you know you can click it until you've found all 10 clickable gears.
Now just choose an order of the gears (the order you want to test them in) and stick with the same one so you don't get confused. Now number each of the gears (if you hover over them and look at the URL, you can see that they are already numbered 0-9, but you don't have to use those numbers if you choose not to). Click your first gear and you will place a rock in the gear.
Now go to your second window (the one you opened when you right-clicked the button on the wall), and refresh (before you refresh it should show the ceiling completely closed). One half of the ceiling should be opened partially. Take notice of
how much the ceiling opened.
If the
right side opened, take note of
how much it opened, and remember the number of the gear. Feel free to write this down if you wish.
Go back to the gears and click the same gear again to take the rock out, then click the second gear, then refresh at the ceiling, and if the right side opened again, take note of the number of the gear and how much the ceiling opened. Now take the rock out of that gear, and continue doing this until you are done with all of the gears. You should have a list of the gears that open the right side of the ceiling, and you should also have a general idea of how much each gear opens the ceiling.
You will notice that there are some gears that only open the ceiling a little bit, and some open it significantly more. You want those gears that open it the most. Click those three gears (if you want to play it safe in hopes of not breaking it, you can do one gear at a time), and then refresh at the ceiling. If you have the right gears, then you will be able to click those little notches in the floor and in the ceiling to see the star pattern of the last constellation. If not, go back and try changing one of your rocks to another gear that opens the right side of the ceiling.
Here's the final image for your reference:
Once you have played around with it enough you should be able to tell when a gear opens the ceiling a whole lot, without having to compare it to the others like you did the first time you went through, so if you've been at it for a while and it keeps breaking, and you come across a gear that opens the ceiling a whole lot on the right side, just leave that rock there and then continue searching for the other 2 gears that you need, and do the same thing once you've found the 2nd gear, and hopefully it won't take as long.
Good luck finding the right combination of gears, and try not to get too frustrated
