The problem that you have, blue_popple, is the fact you have saved it as a Bitmap image (.bmp). These have incredibly large filesizes, so when you attempt to upload them, Photobucket throws a hissy fit because its too big and would strain their servers if everybody was able to upload things that size, so it resizes your image to make the filesize smaller.
You need to save it as a Jpeg (.jpg), Gif (.gif) or, best of all, a PNG (.png). To do this, you must select the option from the dropdown box, you can't simply change the filename from image.bmp to image.jpg, it will fool your computer into thinking its a jpg, but it won't fool photobucket.

PNG files are much larger in file size than both GIF or Jpeg. I personally hate .png files for any use other than script use; they take too long to load on my poor little dial-up.
