I've got my telescope pulled up, and the coordinates into the mapper listed in the first thread....but now what?

edit: misread your question.....once you have it mapped, you can feel proud and enjoy the pretty stars. other than that, we have no idea what to do next.

i think my earlier question got lost in all the discussion.....for those of you who have your second map, did you refresh the sky as shown through the telescope, or the get_star_data page?

yes, but so what? what do you mean 'once you have it mapped'? Am I missing a step????

Congrats! you are now where we all are:
You can try to use the map to find constellations, theories range from using the blue line drawings to using the gems from above each statue
though afaik no-one has found a genuine (and accepted by TNT) constellation yet

You can "Start Mapping" two ways...
the first way is found on the first post a little after that line where it talks about Darkfire's Sky Mapper...she gives instructions in her post.

the second is for you to take screen shots of what your telescope sees...meaning position tele in one corner take a screen shot, paste in whatever software program you use that lets you edit pics like Photoshop, Paint, etc....then return to your tele, move over a bit and take another shot, and so on until you have "mapped" every quadrant of what sky you can see. If you are not familiar with any editing software this will be very tedious work for you.

That's why everyone was overjoyed at the post and program by Darkfire.
Hope that helps.

I meant the glyph images. That site is nice, though. I really want to see the glyph images over the blue gems. Since everyone is trying to fit the glyphs onto their star images, and everyone is trying to overlay the gems onto their images, I thought that transversely, it would be easier for everyone to see which gems they needed, or if they actually overlaid well.

I hope anyone hasn't said this already but my second map seems to appear every 4 hours. This morning I first found it at 11 a.m. At 12 I tried to get it again and it never showed up. I tried agian at 2 p.m. and still didn't get it. Then at 7 p.m. I got it again. I remember something in the LDP (*shudders*) about something happening every 4 hours. Is anyone else getting the same 4 hour thing?

Here are my 2 starfields. map1 has stars with green around them, map2 has red around the stars. I had to cut a bit off the right side to make it 1k.

o_O ok, let me see if i get this. you've entered all your coordinates into darkfire's mapper thingy listed on the first thread, right? when you click submit, you should get a black box with all the stars in it....that's the map of your whole sky. so far, we don't know what to do with it, but take a screen shot and save it just in case.

That's what I thought, too. The real problem right now is we have no size ratio to base these with. That's why I don't like the overlay of the gems to the cards. I mean, I know the gems have the constellation IN them, (at least I think I know that...hehe) but I don't see them overlaid the cards, the sizes just don't match.

Here's another idea. Try taking your second map and erasing where the stars are, much like people have been doing with the gems. It'll look like a piece of Swiss cheese. Then, when you put it over the other map, you'll see the ones on the first map that match. You can go back and look to see if they're the same colors. It's a little more time consuming, but it'll turn out better that layering them in Photoshop.

To all those that keep wondering about this: Both. At some point you should all see something different in your Telescope and your star_data. I have found that they do not even refresh at the same time.

Most importantly, for those that cannot get their second set, I beg you to just check your browser settings and even compare in FireFox and IE if you still have trouble (either that or be on Neopets 24/7 to refresh lol). In IE you should actually check for newer versions of stored pages every visit to the page (there is a glitch in older versions for the Automatic setting). As for FireFox, I only know of all the problems and don't use it because of that so maybe check similar settings and/or compare in IE).

Beyond that, try clearing both your cache and your history. This simply insures that you are not loading something in your browser's "memory" such that you get the same picture every time just to save bandwidth.

Making a swiss cheese template for the stars is a good idea, but all you really have to do is compare the two sets of star coordinates. I did mine on a spreadsheet, and there are no two identical sets of star coordinates between my two maps. There are a few that are close, like within a few points, but not identical. plus, the star mapper makes the stars appear a bit larger than the real telescope images, so your swiss cheese holes are larger and less accurate if you make them off your mapper image.

I always cross reference my 'close finds' back to my original screen-capped star map and they're always off. I *know* I'm going to find one though. There's just too many close ones for it to be coincidence.

I've pretty damn tired of looking at my templates. I don't see how you guys are going through them so fast. There are seven or eight hundred stars on the map, times 15 to 22 stars per template. You only need six stars to match up, but you have to try every possible combo, because some of the possible configurations of matching stars are not apparant by just looking at them.

I still don't think the TCG images have anything to do with this puzzle, despite multiple attempts to get them to match up with the ceiling gems and the sky.

'course I'm probably wrong. Won't be the first time, not the last.

I don't think it will matter, because you probably have to overlay the gem images with the map anyway. Just take the glyph, put it on top of the blue gem image (unresized), and see what happens. Don't resize anything.

ah, ok, thanks for the clarification, although i'll have to disagree on the firefox issue ;) . there seems to be so many people having issues getting their second set that i'm starting to agree with Kayisme about the time delay thing. not sure how long in between, maybe that could be different for different people too?

Mon Mar 27, 2006 2:37 am

I did the overlay idea both ways, starfield 2 over 1 looked a lot better, like so:

Image

(here's 1 over 2 if you're interested...http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v494/ledi/starfields.jpg)

Those four stars in the coners are there in both versions. Strange.

Mon Mar 27, 2006 2:44 am

The four stars in the corners seem to appear on everyone's map, so I believe these are field limit stars or for images "placeholders"
