There is another way that is not quite right. It works for 2+2=4 but does not work for 4+4=8!

(2)*(2)=4
(4)*(4)=16 WRONG!
(1+4+2)*(4+6+8 )=126 backwards 621
(3+7+6+2)*(8+2+7+1)=324, backwards 423

-- This is the wrong answer --

Still, very clever.

meh. I was checking every 30 minutes or so this morning... finally forget to check at bang! they release it  . This one was totally messed up-not only was it really easy... the trophy is all about who had the time to refresh it non stop, type in the answer, and get a gold trophey and a rare book(books are always the best lenny c prize.... behind good weapons for course :P). I really think they should have tweaked the puzzle some... made it something like

2+2=4
4+4=8
153+479=601
3762 + 8271 = ?

and see how many people would not catch the change :P(the 153+479 thing is another hit, btw)

Lol, that would be evil, but a very good move. Most people will hurriedly paste in the answer the minute they see the LC opened and end up being wrong.

I understand the CONCEPT behind it, but not the actual steps to get the answer. Hmm...

Try the internet.

While we're doing wrong answers, I might as well show the thing I caught:

2 + 2 = 4
4 + 4 = 8
142 + 468 = 621
3762 + 8271 =

Now, look at the third line: 142 + 468 = 621

Starting at the second number, take out every other number, and you get this:

1_2 + _6_
_4_ + 4_8

so I thought maybe it had to do with the previous one, and then take stuff backwards. It doesn't, of course, but it was pretty funny how that worked out. I imagine they probably do stuff like that to throw you off. At least, I'd hope they're that smart.

This post does not contain hints or anything, it's just random blab about how I was trying to solve it. It is in no way related to the correct way to solve the problem.

I'm not even close to anything resembling a prize. Oh well. There's always a good chance of the Neopets servers being delayed by a good 8 hours to adjust to my time zone's non-work hours.

Well, if you plug your answer into "Search Neopets," do you get a newly created yellow Lenny?

Got the right answer ;) I found the Lenny

Me too. How bizzare to find a lenny with that name--owned by someone without a shop, game scores, and has been playing for only a month.

I'm guessing it was designed either to be a verification of the answer for others (sort of what we ended up using it for after someone found it), or as "proof" to Neo that the user (on his main account) knew the answer at such & such a time while it was impossible to give the answer.

(Of course, TNT wouldn't be awarding a prize based on that, but maybe the user was indulging in wishful thinking.)

I don't think it is anything but happenstance. It would be on purpose only if it were a red lenny and made very recently. Certainly there is a lot of pets with random letters and number in them.

yeah, I think it was created as more of a joke because we were unable to submit answers for so long. Someone got frustrated and made the lenny. :)

It was made very recently. In fact, about a few hours after the LC came out.
