I changed some of my display settings (changing color from 32-bit to 16-bit and ensuring optimum display instead of saving energy, though I'm not running off the battery, so I don't think either should matter). The game is better now, though there's no way to know if JS made a change on their end in the meantime or not (they did pretty quickly last time there were issues with a game). Of course, I had over 7700 and managed to lose both lives quickly, ending at 7955. My hand gets twitchy after a while, and I need more breaks more quickly. This game would be much improved if you had to click to start again when you died in the middle of a round, instead of it making you go right away again with no break.
It doesn't help that I'm left-handed and have to play this with my non-dominant hand...
Edit: Spoke too soon. It's still intermittently glitchy. *sigh*
Here are some tricks that might help you get to 8k (they're a little different than the avvie-seeking hints): Get all the purple and red power-ups you can. The round doesn't stop giving you scoops until the last scoop for that round crosses the top, so by slowing it down, you can get a few more extra scoops. Besides, slowing down in the intermediate rounds allows you to practice the precise hand movements needed for a tricky escape (e.g., down, over one scoop, up, over one scoop, down and back to the previous scoop level). Just don't slow it down so much that the beginning of the next round freaks you out. Don't sacrifice a life for a power-up; it's not worth it. Get the fishes and cherries when you can, but remember you'll lose your smallness and decreased speed if you do (the same goes for shields; I ignore them if I'm already microscopic, unless it will last to the end of the round... this is true even for an extra life, in later rounds. No sense getting one extra life if you're going to lose 2-3 that round by losing being small!). Take a break between rounds to stretch your hand; after you stretch, warm up your hand again doing pretend game movements. Last, try to stay near the middle of the screen. Sometimes your only escape will be up and around, and that's easier to do if you're in the middle. Last-last, ignore the score. Just focus on reaching the end of the round. Your goal should be to make it as far as you can in the double-chocolate round.
Oh, and the "Fish heads" song is a nice slow song to help you calm down when you start to get jittery.
ETA: And success! 8150. I'll take it. Good luck, Daze and Blue! (Pickles is a rockstar at this game, so she doesn't need the luck... She'll hopefully stop by with more tips.)
Blue graffitied on my signature... But it made me laugh, so it's all good!
