Dohring was kept on as the chief executive in order to allow Viacom time to understand what the company was like. It was a "don't rock the boat until we know how to sail it" kind of decision.

If anything, they'll stop selling themselves out like so many other things have done. At least they might cut back on it.

I don't know how all this will pan out, but I'm cautiously optimistic. Dohring primarily had a background in marketing and market research, which was at the time he bought it the main purpose of the site. (Whether that's still how Viacom plans to go with it remains to be seen.)
Reppen's background appears to be in website and online content development.
So they're replacing a marketer with someone who actually has experience in website content development (and seems to be good at it). I think it's possible that this is a good thing.
All we can do is wait and see.

You know, I remember back when Neopets went to Doug Donut, we were all "OMG NOOOOO!!!!!" and yet nothing horrible really happened. And here everyone is today, perfectly content with Neopets. I wouldn't be worried if I were you.

Things have gotten better since the days when the Lenny Conundrum didn't update for months and there weren't any plots for maybe a year and NeoSchools got hyped up and then just died. I'm not sure whether that whole fiasco period was because of Dohring (or even if it's possible to have been caused by him - I don't remember the times these happened), but I just associate his arrival with all those problems. Now I feel like, just when things are getting better (even including staff interaction - like snarkie!), things might get shaken up backwards again (though it could certainly be sped up forwards, but my gut is pessimistic about this...).

My biggest fear is that Neopets might become politicized. If you've seen a lot of what Viacom owns, they have "alternative lifestyle" TV stations, MTV, and even a lot of Nickelodeon shows have a decidedly liberal bent (example: Spongebob global warming cartoon), or Nick News. I don't want to suddenly see a plot about how it's perfectly okay for Rosie O' Doglefox to like other female Doglefoxes, or how a Desert Aisha experiences discrimination in the big city. Most of all, I don't want to have a war end in both sides realizing that fighting is wrong and we should all get along.
