The going price in the trades is 115k when I checked before accepting. I couldn't be happier to have gotten out of Shop Wizard pricing and into trade only pricing.
And if you think about it, this trade comes with an avvie

Aw... my Kastraliss (TCG) is useless. It's only 91K at most.

wow, already into unbuyables! it looks like i'm going to have a hard time finding something to trade to you now

You might want to stop this for a while because of
this problem.

I know, I never expected this to happen so soon. I figured it'd take at least 2 weeks to get to this point. Thanks everybody!

Just read about that when I logged in. I'd hate for all our efforts to be ruined because of a glitch.
I've cancelled all offers just to be safe, I know it's most likely not necessary but I don't want to take any chances of the glitch affecting old offers even once the bug is fixed.

i think this kind of thing would be more interesting if it wasnt advertised. to see if it would be possible without people knowing what you were doing.

I agree there. I looked at the petpet page, the trades for the most part are not "something slightly more expensive". They are more like twice as much.
But it is fun to watch, including the side bets on whether he gets called on a "scam" or not.
Sat May 06, 2006 11:14 pm
Yeah, advertising kind of posions the results because people are deliberately offering things worth much more just to be helpful, or to get their name on the petpage. For this to be a real "experiment" it would have to be done with no advertising and only written about afterwards.
I still think it's neat, though.

Or perhaps it would be better simply with no advertising done by the guy themself. the ORP guy didn't advertise, but everyone knows about it because of all the advertisement done by his followers.
and looking at the list of people who participated, a very fair number are ppters

I don't believe this could ever be done without some kind of statement somewhere stating what you are doing. I get offers all the time from people who expect to get a 50k item for 3 omelettes and 2000 Neopoints.
Kyle from one red paperclip would never have gotten anything if it was not for people coming to his blog and he couldn't have gotten anybody to his blog without advertising.
I can see how a story about "I turned one-dollar into a Corvette by trading with people that didn't know what I was doing until the end" would be interesting, but it's not possible.
Of course people want fame, of course people want to be a part of something others will know about; it's human nature. I only ask for an item worth a little bit more than the one that is up for trade, but if someone wants to trade an item that's worth a 5-6k more, etc., I'm not going to deny it.
However, if someone were to offer me a lab map set right now there's no way I'd accept because then the experiment would be nullified, everybody's efforts would have been in vain, and I'd feel really bad about it because people have given me their time and Neopoints and I know there is no way I can give it back but I do know that if I succeed they will be happy and it'll have been worth it to them.
I would gladly sell the lab map and divide the Neopoints evenly among everyone who traded me something, but that would constitute a prize and my account would be iced.
My reason for writing this is I feel like I'm suddenly being attacked for doing this. I wanted to do this all in good fun, nothing is happening on Neopets plot-wise and I thought this could lighten up the waiting and give me something interesting to write about for the Neopian Times as well.
I don't want any hard feelings and if people think I should quit this experiment post your reasons and I'll take everything that was made and donate it to the money tree little by little. What you see is what you get with this experiment, I can assure you that.

I believe we here are all very supportive of this experiment, and personally, i want to see it work out to the fullest. i see this as proof of how neopets has not terribly deteriorated over the years, and how the bonds between players have become stronger. this experiment doesn't concern fame and wealth, but human nature and kindness

Oh, I certainly don't mean you should stop!! I apologize if I sounded like that. What I was commenting on was the exchange rate. Becase of the visibility, people are trading much higher value items.
(An entire other phenomomenom. Or is it really all about the social aspect instead of the trading aspect?)
In any case, I like the ongoing story.

The glitch seems to have stopped, I'd say it's safe to start trading again.

That's a cool experiment. Of course observation of the experiment affects outcome, but it's the same in quantum physics.

Insert jokes about jrtman's "spin" and "charm" here.
