the thing abt the current trend of reporting scams is that players should distinguish between a potential scam and a real one. first of all, it is not against the neorules to beg or be off-topic (posting unrelated topic on the wrong board)..nowhere in the chat rules says otherwise.

what irritates me greatly is that if someone posts something like asking for player's AIM or email, or ask to trade for expensive stuff with cheap stuff with a pleading/begging tone..players are very fast to report. now we are quite knowledgeable abt scams and sniff potential ones like when someone asked for your email. however many of them don't understand that suspecting a scam is not enuff to warrrant a report. you have to ensure that it IS a scam..like after you neomail the suspected scammer, he ask for your pw.

and moreover, i have always thought that those players that like to shout "report" at first chance are just poor attention seekers, many of them are New Member themselves (yes i use New Member, not newbies..)

Neopets is a children's site, and to some children, 'crap' is offensive.

Besides, it is just website.

I'm irritated by that as well. Especially if it's a particularly offensive topic, and all the "reporters" keep bumping the stupid topic up! Report them and then ignore them. Let the topic sink out of sight.

Begging and off topic are considered spam. I can't remember the petpage at the moment that I've seen the warnings and a support email on the subject. If I find it again, I'll post it. But both of those are reportable. No, it's not in the rules, it's one of the "unwritten" rules, like not coering your user stats on your lookups. Of course, almost anything is reportable these days.

People who just jump and yell Reported! are very annoying. I don't report often and I never post that I have reported. I agree completely that there should be judgement used before hitting that link to report a message no matter where it is. That report message button is, in my opinion, being severely abused by too many people.

As far as it being a children's site, it's a family site really. It was created by and for bored college students. Children, I don't think, were in their minds when they came up with Neopets. But then they came, and now it's for anyone and everyone, which is a good thing. And I do believe that rules are important, even if the site was only adults. I've never been a member of a listserve, forum or site that did not have rules to be abided by. The only difference is most of the other places I've been a member of have had very clear-cut rules.

I think there should be a list of words that we can't type on the site in either the T&C or the Chat Rules and the filters should pick them up so they can't be said in the first place. Then we wouldn't have people being warned/frozen for saying something wrong. Unless of course they just don't care. But that's a different story. No one needs people like that around.
