Shoyru's origin is probably from the Japanese language. Japanese for a young dragon is Shoryu. Well if u mess Shoyru and Shoryu up a little the pronunciation is still the same. Hope this helps

Bruce: Back in the olden days, Bruces used to be a photo of
Bruce Forsyth. (
biography,
pictures)
Shoyru: Just a petname of the creator of the image.
Cybunny: One day before the Cybunny was released, a file called "cutebunny.gif" was uploaded to the Neopets servers.
cy = cute & bunny = bunny
Poogle: Comes from the word
Poodle

I remember reading (I think in an editorial in the NT) that Flotsam and Jetsam come from a title of a chapter of LOTR. This makes sense knowing some of the people who work at Neopets are big LOTR fans.
EDIT: "Flotsam and Jetsam" is the title of chapter 9 from The Two Towers.

Kiko is from kikkoman, a brand of condiments(at least that's what we have from that brand) they said so themselves.

It's from 'The Hobbit' actually.
Drake is a word used for a dragon. There's a dragon called a Firedrake. Beowulf fought one.

I thought they were just from the words Flotsam and Jetsam, which I think mean rubbish floating at sea. But it might not be a coincidence that there's a chapter in LOTR with the same title.

I can't believe no one got the reference to the Little Mermaid. lol Flotsam and Jetsam were Ursula's pet eels.

Up on the ppt front page, I saw a 'Did you know' that said that the wocky and jubjub both got their names from the poem 'Jabberwocky'
It would be cool to do this same thing with the petpets. ^^

Not sure if this has been suggested yet, but chia could stem from the chia pets, since theyve been around forever. Not really a literary or scientific reference, but they dont all have to be
