The punishment didn't fit the crime, for sure. And as for you saying "I like girls", that is a little different than "I'm bi."
However, i bet if you went around saying "I'm straight" they wouldn't do jack squat to you.
Biased.

Think of it this way.
The unimaginable happens and a ten year old sees a convo such as this.
"What does straight mean" is easily explained.
"What does Bisexual mean" is a little trickier.

Today's society only makes it that way- as it is classified 'not normal' to like boys & girls; or just boys.
We still live in a very biased world; regardless of what the government says.

No, because talking about your skin color is not against the Terms and Conditions. Talking about your sexual orientation is.

I swear there was a rule against racism.

So jumping onto a board and saying 'gays must die' is bad; but making a post saying 'blacks must die' is alright? ;)

The forums are the only area of Neopets I've wanted them to actually work on- they have all these rules, but they are not enforced until it is too late.
It's not Neopets fault, however; as the forums are more active than they're supposed to be (It's more of a live chat ;)); but at least their filters need doing; back to my previous point, I could probably make a post saying 'why do black people suck?' or something; and it won't get deleted until a good 100 posts have been made in it by others.

Surely, by then, any children/parents reading the forums would have seen it? Therefore, making the idea of those rules useless.

I was gonna say they should get rid of the forums, and introduce an IRC chatroom (built into Neopets, of course); sure that'd get rid of a few problems, but it's cause many more.

Humph.

Personally, I wouldn't post "I am straight" anywhere on Neopets. My guess is that could get you frozen. Because you aren't allowed to talk about sexual preferences on the site. And that includes being straight. That rule probably would even emcompass talking about abstinence. Just because people talk about it in society doesn't mean it can be talked about on Neopets. All sorts of things are talked about in the real world that cannot be discussed on Neopets--suicide, cutting, abortion, gangs, terrorists, to name a few. Not even various undergarments--like bras or even the word teddy. It's their right to make up the rules. So basically, a person has three choices. To abide by the rules, challenge the rules and risk losing your account, or find another game to play.

"Boo hoo"
Saying "just cos society thinks that way!!1!1!" is of no defence, murder is illegal, because our society thinks that way!
So you could accept it, or find a new society.

now, there's a word that i remember trying to say but it was blocked by the filter...
but it had NO reason to be. It was not a swear word or a reference to anything dirty...
Does anyone think they know what i'm talking about lol?
And if so, why the heck is it banned??? 0.o
*runs off to the boards to try and figure it out*

Mayhaps it was "alien"? There was an editorial question about it not too long ago...

There are a lot of words that "could be bad" or "might make up bad words".

If I'm going on to the Neoboards for any reason, I follow the following rules:

1) No talk about sex, sexual orientation, relationships, anything. Heck, I won't response to an "are you male or female" board.
2) Don't even THINK anything religious. Much LESS say anything. At All. That could POSSIBLY be traced back to religion.
3) The same goes for race, age, etc.

Actually, the only thing I'll post on the neoboards is the name of a faerie quest item, and "thank you" when somebody helps me.
That's it.

I don't want to seem like I'm not understanding, because I am. I know how much it sucks to have an account iced, I know what it's like to get in trouble when others don't, and I know what it's like want to stick up for yourself.
But no matter what, the Neoboards aren't the place for sticking up for yourself. It's not the place to stick up for others. And it's definatly not the place to do anything that might remotely go against the rules.

Guys, seriously stop being rude. There's no need to take a trend towards flaming. And if you do not heed my warning, the thread will be locked, simple as that.

Fri Feb 09, 2007 1:12 am

Sigh, you might not want to try to recreate it. It is against the rules to post certain words in an attempt to test the filters. Though it would be quite nice if there was a list around somewhere of what to say and what not to say. Because there are often times when I write something and get either the chain letter warning or a profanity filter and I just can't for the life of me figure out the bad word or word combos.

Sigh, I was only aware of it because I had a former guild member suspended for doing such a thing on our guild board. Got mad that someone else had gotten a warning for some sexual connotation, so (while I wasn't around to put a stop to it) he started posting various words on the guild board. Sure enough, he got a message from TNT along with a suspension. Lucky he didn't get the guild frozen.

Perhaps we should keep a running list of "no-no" words somewhere here on PPT. Maybe a sticky???? *glances at Kym and bats eyelashes*

So; you're pretty much okay with racism, sexism, and all other sorts of biased opinions?
I know; let's exterminate anyone who hasn't got blonde hair and blues eyes, while we're at it.

Due to the current state of the world, I cannot form my own society, nor would it be deemed acceptable- and even if I did manage it somehow, I would have to abide by national/international laws (In most cases; no murder, or production of dangerous weapons; or whatever)

To quote Kain from the Legacy of Kain series of video games: "Free will is an illusion". You cannot do what you want- you can do what the 'masters' say you can do, and vice versa.
eg; even If I was to form a society, so to speak; I doubt I could really go and pillage some of our local towns, nor murder my family.

So your point is invalid.

I said this a while ago- how would it work, without actually posting the 'no no' words?
I believe I got temp-banned from the shoutbox for saying 'lol this sucks'; as it was 'profanity/swearing'.

Hehe.

I once got a side account frozen for saying an Irish/British slang word for a ciggarette. I think you can work it out. It begins with F and I used it in a phrase like "Cig break". This was purely innocent and was caught most probably by a filter which caused my immediate freezing. I was able to explain to the staff exactly what I was talking about, and as it happens. They agreed. I was not saying that word as part of an adult conversation. It was a mere slip up, a local phrase.

You have to understand that you willingly participated in the conversation. This was no mere slip. And although I understand how pasionate you can get for these kinds of subjects, it's just not the right place. I myself have had to bite my tongue on the subject for years. If you want to change the world, neopets isn't a good stating point.

The best way to deal with them is just to silently report all banned posts. Even ones you agree with. These people are doing more damage than good to this cause. That way it keeps these discussions to a minimum. Which in turn will keep people like yourself from being offended. There are good reasons these rules are in place. It upsets me no end to see topics like the one you describe. You just have to learn that no matter what you say, it'll only end up with your account gone and nothing gained.

Image Chin up!

littleboy, I am sure that most of us can figure out the really bad words we can't say. So no need to repeat them here on PPT. I am talking about words and word combos like teddy, suicide, abortion, as bad as, pen is (as in this pen is out of ink), pass, compass, that sort of thing.

Fri Feb 09, 2007 1:49 am

Setekh and Littleboy please do not continue your personal flaming on this thread or anywhere else on this site. I will not have it on this forum. Personal attacks are not ALLOWED. Is that not clear?

Take a nice good look at our forum rules.

http://www.pinkpt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2223

Namely...

Respect the staff and comply with their wishes

Refusing to comply with the wishes of a staff member will generally result in a permanent ban. There is simply no excuse for this behaviour. If you feel the judgement against you is injust, you should comply anyway, and then send a formal complaint to an Administrator ( Yup, its another one of those clicky names).

No Flaming

"Flaming", is when somebody attacks somebody else over the internet, normally in the form of insults. This will not be tolerated. You do not have to agree with every other member of PPT ( And you wont at some point. Believe me). You do not have to like every other member at PPT. You do, however, have to respect every other member of PPT. And when I say respect, I mean respect their right to have their say just as you have the right to yours. If at any point you think what a member is saying may be out of line, you should contact a Moderator and have them look into it for you. If somebody flames you, do NOT retaliate. You will end up in as much trouble as them. Just contact a Moderator. Its their job to deal with members breaking these rules, remember? Flaming is also outlawed through the Personal Message system. You may argue a little more heatedly in private, but be sure to never insult another member.

If I have to post again on this thread it will be to lock it.
