Let's look at Neopets real life pets for a minute. If you had to get rid of your pet, would you rather drop your pet off at the pound, or give them to someone you know? In real life you know that when you're driving your dog to your friend, someone's not going to grab the dog out of the moving car on the way. But in Neopets that happens all the time when pets are swiped from the pound from someone. Smudge had this idea: "You want to pound your pet. You can choose 2 options. Pound delay or immediate display. If you pick immediate display the pet immediately goes to the pound. Anyone can adopt it. This would be for people who just pound a pet and don't care who gets it. If you choose Pound Delay the pet would not appear in the pound for a bit. The pet would still be adoptable, but you would have to know its name to adopt it. This would give a person plenty of time to switch accounts and get it, or to find a nice owner, or to tell a friend that the pet is ready to adopt.

Sent that into the editorial just now. Hope that was alright with you Smudge. :) Had to cut it down a lot because of the 1000 character limit.

I believe that TNT will reject the proposed pound delay system out of hand because, as IanB said, TNT doesn't want to encourage passing around pets for avvies.

What I find scary though, is that on Neoboards people seem to surf the pound incessantly so as to snipe painted/LE pets the second they show up in the pound. I doubt if these will be the sort of people to release the sniped pet even if you explained that you were simply trying to transfer your pet to another account!

They won't, or at least, they 99.9999% won't. But it might give them an idea to do it in the future. There's a lot of reasons why they won't, but people will always try to transfer pets. They can't stop people from doing that, people will always take the risk. It'd be better if they'd see that and just minimize the risk.

But why? Why is it such a big deal to them that some people swap pets around to get avatars, or sell their pets for NP? Why do they care so much that they'd make people suffer who legitimately want to transfer their pets to other people or their own other accounts? It's just a game for crying out loud! It should be fun. Swapping pets to get more avatars is fun. Giving your pets to your friends is fun. Finding a new owner for a pet you've cared for for a long time but no longer what, and want to know it's going to someone who will appreciate it, is fun. Having the freedom to switch your pets around from your own accounts is fun. Having your special pet snatched out from under you in a split second by some pound sniper is not fun! It's just a game, TNT! >.<

(Sorry for that little rant filled with pointless rambling and rhetorical questions, I'm just in a ranting mood I guess. )

But in this week's NT they made a reference to transferring pets...

Hi! My friend's been wanting to switch some of her Neopets to side accounts, but these Neopets have aged Petpets and she's afraid she won't be eligible to win the PPL if the Petpet isn't on her main account. Should she be worried? ~laruvy
As far as the PPL goes, it doesn't matter what account the Neopet and its Petpet are on. Even if you adopt a Neopet with a well-aged Petpet, you are still eligible. She should be more concerned about safely transferring her Neopets, as there are always people watching the pound. Good luck!

Italics are much emphasis. Durrr, TNT. They recognize that safe transferring is a problem, but that the potential sale of pets is a bigger evil apparently.
