I like it. I'm not a restocker, of course - but now it'll actually be *possible* for me to buy something every once in a while, hopefully. I know everyone's complaining about sitting there refreshing, but I'm quite happy to do that if I want something.

MRBboy8 - Yeah, a lot of people are unhappy. But you have to consider that restocking is how they earn their np - it's pretty much their neojob. I'd be pretty unhappy if the stockmarket went bankrupt or removed.
The only annoying thing about the complaining is when they're not willing to actually try a little harder for it. Ohhh, it's not easy anymore! My neolife's over! (Well, that's not really here so much, but it's a point anyway. Heh.)

Because it doesn't solve inflation the way YOU want it to. Well you know what? Life's a smurf. I personally like the new way, it stops autobuyers. Personally, I laugh at all the people this screwed up...

I don't know that this solves inflation at all.

The item prices should remain relitivly the same because, as was mentioned earlier, the items are all still being bought. And the demand has, obviously, not changed. It wasn't realy possibly for people to have restock based monopolies, if only becuse of competition from other restockers so any inflation isn't artificial.

Not to mention. The problem with neopian inflation is it'd degree not it's existance. And the worst ravages of inflation affect retired items, not those being restocked

My major comment though is that this dosen't seem to have a huge affect on the autobuyers, less of an effect than on regular neopians.

I'm a restocker, and with the new random restocking time, I can barely get anything. I love restocking, it's the one thing at Neopets that I'm good at. Like that was mentioned, restocking is my Neojob.

For now, I can't get anything. But give it a day or two, and hoping that I'm able to adjust to the new system. Or else, I think I'll be thinking of a new Neojob...

I still haven't got the Chocolate avatar, and I don't think I ever will

I'm a restocker, and I think this is awful. I don't see how this is going to help people who currently aren't very good at restocking. You're still going to have more experienced restockers who know which items to grab, and people with faster computers/connections nab items more quickly. The skill in restocking lies in knowing which items you can resell for a profit and reasonably grab before anyone else based on your speed limitations. It's taken me time to know which items I can consistantly grab in certain shops on my slow connection that will still make me profit. This change will likely make me shop banned more often and will prevent me from enjoying the site in other ways since I'll have to spend so much time checking in the shops :(

Thu Jun 15, 2006 1:39 pm

I think this'll get a handle on inflation. Restockers can't make as much money, so prices will go down. Eventually.

Thu Jun 15, 2006 1:45 pm

Call me crazy, but can someone explain to me how inflation is so out of hand? What prices are so high? Good battledome items, yes, there's high demand for them. But most of the items I price (Neohome and Neogarden) the prices come down fairly quickly unless they are very rare (as in r97-99 or sponser items/code card item).

The best way to target the autobuyers is to look at the time between clicking on an item as it stocks and it's final purchase. That's where the bots excel over noncheaters, not in checking when things stock in shops.

Price is a function of demand. Low demand items aren't going to inflate the way high-demand items will.

Sure, some individual items are going down, but high-demand items are going up. Look what's happened to the prices of lab maps, most PBs, Draik and Krawk morphs (along with some other higher-demand morphs), and most good Battledome items.

I don't see that this is going to help inflation, either. Inflation is caused because games, etc. create Neopoints out of "nowhere," not by anything restockers do. Raising the prices of things in the official shops would help with inflation (because it removes more Neopoints from the system). So would increasing the numbers of all the items that restock (since the number of items increases while the demand stays the same).

Just changing the system of restocking isn't going to do anything.

I still don't see why this is supposed to help with the autobuyers, unless the theory is that they'll get RS-banned much more quickly?

Thu Jun 15, 2006 2:09 pm

I agree, this is NOT going to help with inflation at all. All the items are still being bought, and even IF it stops autobuyers... what do you think autobuyers do with the items?

They sell 'em.

So, I'm confused.

I see the start of the topic reading as "Not all shops will restock in the same order or even starting at the zero-second mark any more."

But it seems to me that it's just that not all shops are restocking - when food restocks, it's still at zero or one second.

Is this just me seeing a clump of this sort of thing?

At any rate, I don't see how this will stop autobuyers at all. It's not as if they were sending a massive group of data packets to the neopets server, hoping that one or two of the items they were requesting actually existed. They were doing the same thing you and I do (see, request, send image click data), just faster.

Now, if this DOES shut down autobuyers (though I still don't see how it would), it should actually curb rare item inflation, at least a little bit. Here's an example:
1) Autobuyer picks up lots of morphing potions.
2) Autobuyer gets frozen before selling/transferring MPs. MPs never enter marketplace, thus supply chain is interrupted. Demand is the same, so price increases (lower relative supply).
3) With no autobuyers, fewer users are frozen. Fewer MPs are lost to freeze-bot.
4) More MPs enter supply chain.
5) Demand is same, so increased supply means price drop.

This will not affect (or at least, not noticably) the prices of semi-rare items like chocolates or books.

EDIT: It doesn't look to me like the number of restocks for each shop has been static between the last week and today. Seems to me that in fact the number of restocks for any individual shop has plummeted.

I dunno about food, but Gardening is NOT restocking when it normally did, at 5-9 sec past.

Forget about my complaints. I've been really getting into it the last 10 minutes or so, and I'm raking in the cash. I'm a believer.

Thu Jun 15, 2006 6:23 pm

How does this stop autobuyers? And for how many hours until the AB programs are updated?

Thu Jun 15, 2006 7:50 pm

I'm still trying to get a feel for the new way of RS'ing. Got my first item worth more than 20k a bit ago (and I was rather slow about punching in the #s), so I'm hoping it just takes some getting used to. My eyes still flit to the clock just as it's about to turn :00, heh. Old habits die hard.

BDC is going nuts still, and flighttime returned to answer some of their questions here:

Since the board will asplode, here are some quotes from flighttime:
Nice try kids but... as I said, it's random. Good to see the brain cells churning around instead of just whining though.

-----

flighttime doesn't like to be called a liar.

-----

Last night... two shops open plus the SSW. Takes a bit of work but I found it quite profitable and never got shop banned. All those that just want to whine because they can't chit chat while they RS seem to be afraid of a bit or work which, btw, is what they claim they did to become "Super RS Man" in the first place. hmmmmmm Can you say lazy?

-----

As far as why it was changed. Let's just say I didn't vote for Dubya. ;-)

-----

Check your favorite cheat site. Yes, I'm sure you all have one. AB'ers are a thing of the past.

-----

The change was made because I really enjoy seeing someone post how they did a dance in their kitchen after RS'ing something they have never been able to get before.

-----

So wait... This "System" that you all spent so long deveoloping is totally based on knowing when to hit F5... Not really much of a system, I'd say. Rather weak actually. Get back to work coming up with a new one. ;-)

Charming. If I made a political comment as mild as that, I'd be warned or worse. :D And it really feels good to have everyone who rs's be labeled as a cheater, doesn't it? There is way too much tension on that board, read at your own risk, lol! Watch out for the flaming piles of dung some people are throwing!

Anyone know what cheat site he'd be referring to? I'm just wondering if they're whining over there that their AB'ers don't work or what.

So according to TNT there is no pattern. Not like they'd tell us if there was, lol, but I haven't seen anything but randomness yet. It'll be interesting to see how this all progresses over the next few days.

Thu Jun 15, 2006 7:58 pm

I only have one comment to all this seeing as I do not play in the shops often. I hope this makes it so people who are on dial up can catch a few good items sometimes. i think that will be the big difference with the new release times.
