Yep, add me to the list of people who think he's just a silly little script-kiddie wannabe with too much time on his hands. He's not doing this because he's trying to prove a point to TNT, he's doing it because he likes the attention. Anybody who spends their weekends cracking a GAME site for kicks needs to go volunteer at a soup kitchen or something. I'd respect THAT.

I hope they slap him with that $50,000 fine mentioned in the T&C now. I know if I was his mother, I'd sell his computer to help pay it off.

I agree with you. It's how you use it. But, I am paying respect to how he is using it because of who he is using it against or, I should say towards. Neopets is a team of 100 + people. Most (we'll say 50) are HTML and Web I bet. Most of them (40) have probally taken a few years of working in HTML on various colleges and such, some probally have Majors in that and Minors in something close to it.

Now, you can't tell me 50+ people can't put up the necessary things and regualry check the site to prevent such things can you? No. We can't say that. He is making it clear to them that if someone wanted todo some serious damage to Neopets Site, he/she could. Yes, it all appears to be wrong, but I haven't heard of one person (and I've kept a very good eye on this) say "OMG! I've lost 20 MILLION!!!". Have you? (Not you, but anyone reading this.) - So, we must acknoweldge he isn't hacking and stealing, he is hacking and prooving something to TnT again, something we ALL try todo all the time but fail, while he has taken more...drastic mesures todo so.

I respect him because of how he is doing it, who he is going against, and what he is trying to tell them. Because, ALL of us can agree TnT doesn't listen to us like they once did. They just don't care it appears to us anymore, when they used to. They used to be tied with us, now they're tied to big corproate groups who only care about money, and using Neopets as a outlet to gain it from us, the people they used to listen to.

Again, Kaos is doing something very chaoticly (for us really, believe it or not I think), taken to the most extreme measure of this. And, if he really is like a 16 year old, (which I don't believe, but is possible of course) why is it he has the ability todo this against grown men an women who have studied (and paid) to prevent this?

This is why I have some respect for him and acknoweldge him as a power in Neopia. Because he can do this against them, no matter how bad it appears to the rest of us. Let's face it, people who make changes are often the only ones who are doing it at first, because others don't have the ability at the time or can't find away.

He has and does and is. So, I respect him to my degree.

Edit: And mind you, this is going to be the only Battle in Neopia that we watch without knowing the true outcome. :roflol:

To heck with a fine. The US government placed NSA wiretaps everywhere for a reason: National Security (hence the NS). It has been proven repeatedly, that this punk (which is to nice a word) can break code and find holes in security systems. It has been also proven that there may have been some malicious intent (if just to break in, but not cause any real harm) behind these incidents. A fine is the least that should be handed down. If this person (way to nice a word) shared his skills with a more malicious group, many more sensitive systems could be at risk. The Feds should take action and lock him away in Gitmo, or send him to one of those secret CIA prisons in Russia. (Geez, I can't believe I'm actually supporting those now  :P )

Okay. That was a little harsh, but it is at least 10^23 times nicer than what I was thinking last night :P

Sorry, I don't respect anyone who deliberately breaks rules, no matter how powerful they are or what they're trying to prove. Force is the worst way to get a point across, and always has negative repercussions. Just look at wars.

Really, it's as rediculous as someone robbing a bank to prove how bad the bank's security is. Totally unjustifiable.

Neopets has to be one of the most security hole-riddled "big" sites I've ever seen. So no, no respect there.

There are ways of alerting people to these security holes without destroying many people's accounts, many of these accounts which people will not be getting back. There are ways of doing it without making the site unplayable and thus again punishing the users and not the creators.

I have no respect for script kiddies at all, what they are doing is not out of reach for many people on the internet, and probably too for many people who play neopets. What they lack is the judgement and morals that stops other people from ruining a games site, a games site now aimed at children no less, in the name of making a name for themselves.

Not to mention the way in which they have chosen to do it makes it likely that tnt will have to knee-jerk and wipe all customisable areas of the site and disabling them for who knows how long. Wonderful.

I have no respect for them, only anger and frustration that making a name for themselves is so much more important than the site that so many people enjoy playing, and so much more important than the people they claim to be helping. If they'd wanted to be big and clever after tnt snubbed them then they could, as someone here said, have broken into that mods account and moved things around to get their point across. There was no need to freeze so many people's accounts or steal so many and freeze them either.

Being a script kiddie is not a sign of intelligence, it's not something to be proud of at all. Someone like dolphinling probably has the knowledge to do something like that, give my boyfriend a couple of days and he could do something like that - most of the people on my uni course could do what they are doing with ease. Most people however have the morals and judgement, and the intelligence not to.

I don't mean to jump down your throat Slime Lord but to me there is nothing respectful about their behaviour, or their "knowledge".

Edit: No, it's not safe.

TNT was stupid, and didn't block several closely-related methods of getting javascript on. *sigh*

I don't respect this little thug at all. If you think about it, he is no better than those evil kids who were attacking those homeless people in Florida a few days back. Because although they were attacking the "sytem," the people who ended up getting beaten to death were innocent. And did absolutely nothing to deserve this.

Same with this situation. I got hit with that cookie grabber last night. I sell neggs. I saw 3 green neggs in a shop for 10K on the SSW. When I went to shop, I got the front page of Neopets instead of the shop. I immediately knew something was up. So cleared cookies and went to neopets.com from scratch rather than that page. Immediately changed my password. And tried that shop again. Same thing. So, I cleared cookies again and changed my password. So, I tried the person's userlookup. Same thing. I then reported it and the shop was gone from the SWW within seconds of my reporting it. So, it had to be a cookie grabber on that page and had to be the same guy. Cause Neo doesn't work that fast.

My guess is that the page was a fake. A very realistic looking fake, let me tell you. And that my cookies were grabbed the second I was redirected to that page. This scared the pants off of me. And probably the only thing that saved me was the fact that I am so jaded and saw this thing happen to others--guild mates and friends-- since late December. Cause if I had been less experienced, or tired, or in a hurry, I wouldn't have figured it out. And wouldn't have known to change my password within the seconds in which I did.

After being scared out of my mind that I could lose everything I worked for years to get, I have absolutely no respect whatsoever for the nameless, faceless thug who did that to me. How dare he be made into a hero for scaring and hurting innocent people. People who did absolutely nothing to him. I am one of the lucky ones--I changed passwords and cleared cookies and ran scans instantly. But I am fuming because I was forced to do that. And even more fuming because I have seen people--innocent people--lose everything they worked years to get. And this jerk was vicious. He didn't just take neopoints and run. He abandoned pets. He deleted people's guilds. And their neofriends lists. Scum is too good of a word for him.

All right, the followup bug has been reported and forwarded to the appropriate person... just have to see how long it takes for them to fix it.

Yes, thank you. :) It's good to have someone around who understands what's really happening and what we can do to stay safe.

I'm willing to throw my vote in!

This bums me out soooo badly... I really want to go to Neopets and finish my Jhudora's Quest so I can have the avatar (was working hard on Illusen but she shot me down in the end *sob*)... and I won't be able to go on tomorrow!

So dolphinling, I wait for your words of okay!

Aye, vote dolphinling for internet king!

I had a CG scare back at the end of December. I'd gotten a Fountain Faerie quest for an item over 300k, I found the item in the auctions and bid. After the auction my username was displayed on the winning page as they all are. Obviously someone had seen this and thought I had a lot of money, (I'd just spent every penny I had on that auction fools! ) I recieved a neomail from a fairly old account (2 years I think) informing me that there were good deals in their shop. I went, there were good deals, I bought up some stuff then noticed that there were some discrepensies in some of the user-inserted images. Half loaded, misaligned etc. So off zooming to the user pref page and changed my password. I just think myself lucky that my perpetual suspicion of the human race is still going strong.

Thank you very much for bringing our collective attention to these issues, dolphinling. You have no idea how much I appreciate it.
