different countries, different sponsors I think.
Notice in the one with those other shops end of the url says 'us' probably meaning only people in the usa see them.

This isn't really necessary, the point of the ads are NOT to irritate the players (no matter how much it seems so :P) They are to fund the site.

What I fear is that they already make enough money to fund the site but they add more banners to make it more profitable..

I mean, how can they suddenly need so much money when a while ago, when they had just a teeny weeny banner, i read that the site is already profitable.

I reckon Neo is stuck in an endless loop. More players = more money but also = more costs.

Maybe the costs per player are beginning to outweigh a player's advertising 'worth'? And in order to make the player worth more, they start introducing these ads everywhere.

Solutions -
Tagged accounts to stop people making 50+ accounts
Limit accounts that can be made from one IP address to about 1 per week or so.

Meh.

Remove accounts unplayed in one year (after two warning emails) _and_ redisperse the money/items via the money tree and/or random events.

:P Noooooo. I hardly ever check my email, and I have some pet accounts with rare pets that I don't feed. :P Only keep for display.

Yeah, if they add those, I'm just Ad-Blocking them. I seriously couldn't play the site if I didn't use Firefox. Whenever I go onto my second account using IE, I get tons of Active-X warnings, slow-loading pages, and some pages that won't even load because of the bottom ads.

I totally agree, Cranberry. Firefox is the only thing I use anymore. IE is so slow-loading that I can't be bothered with it. And, really, if I was stuck with only IE I probably would have quite playing Neo a while ago. Because it is next to impossible to restock or shop wiz hunt with IE. Firefox is my new best friend. :)

Yeah, i love ad-block. i spent a whole english period downloading firefox on the slow school computers because of it.

An i don't see any shinking in size of anything. Perhaps your resolution just grew or something

WRONG. That would likely throw the site's economy into a sort of chaos (inflation as well as angering thousands of people, who will shout "NO FAIR!" And who can blame them? After all, the money tree is very obviously patrolled day and night by campers, and random events VERY seldom occur these days. Did I mention that "redispersion" sounds a little like socialism to me? No, we could not use this redistribution; it would only result in an even wider gap between the rich and poor on the site, and that gap is already measured in millions of Neopoints. Said gap is very likely kept in establishment for a reason. I say it would be better to simply delete the account entirely unless we're talking a completely unique or expensive item- Those should gradually be put into contests. At least the contests would be a non-arbitrary way of giving people stuff for showing off what they can do.

Additionally, the IP address idea would only limit those with siblings, parents, or offspring who want to play Neopets, and it very nearly already does. People who deliberately cheat on Neopets will often use proxies to keep themselves from being detected.

I am wondering what exactly is being discussed, just like I know a few other people.

First, I have taken two screenshots of the shop map. These were both taken today. The first has what I would consider a "normal" amount of space between the map and the yellow sidebar. The second screenie has a ridiculous amount of space.

Screenie #1:

Screenie #2:

Now, to account for the difference, at the bottom of the page on the second screenie, I saw this:
Code:
"'); } var cookie_name = 'AdCom702411'; var g_c = 'AdComGb'; setCookie(g_c,'1',8760); if (document.cookie.indexOf(g_c)!=-1 ){ if (document.cookie.indexOf(cookie_name)==-1){ setCookie(cookie_name,'1',24); writeBanner('702411'); }else{ var v = getCookie(cookie_name); if (v < 3){ writeBanner('704156'); v++; setCookie(cookie_name,v,24); }else if(v < 19){ writeBanner('704157'); v++; setCookie(cookie_name,v,24); }else{ call3rdParty(); } } }else{ call3rdParty(); } // -->"

This sets the whole page out of alignment and I e-mailed support about it about three weeks ago.

I see absolutely none of those changes on the shop page. Or any other page for that matter. And I'm looking in both IE and Firefox.

Perhaps, like I said before, it was just some sort of error. And if you're still seeing it now, it's quite a bizarre error

Judging by mayanspypilot's screenshots, on my screen, I'm still getting the normal amount of space, like in the first screenie.
I'm also on 800 x 600, which is why.
I'm guesing it's simply a change in alignment, centering the images rather than aligning them closer to the left as they were before. As long as it's centered, the larger your resolution, the wider the empty space on the left (and right) will be.

Obviously, you weren't around when shapu wrote his excellent thread on redistributing rare items locked away in frozen accounts. I suggest you check it out sometime. And, as for random events, I have gotten tons and tons of them since November. Tons. Good, bad, and ugly. So have other people here on PPT. They aren't nearly as rare as they used to be.

It might be better to put those items in inactive accounts up for auction instead of using them for REs.

The only time I get REs anymore is when I'm playing Neoquest for hours on hand, and of those most are just the ones that don't do anything, of course--I get the Scabu threatening to eat all my food a lot, and the ones tht are about Mystery Island(the dragon one and the "mysterious chanting" one) too.
