If you don't mind my asking, Morningstar, how does that work?

Do you mostly surf the wiz looking for specific items that are at a lower-than-average price, then sell?

Do you find that prices change at different times of the day or week? I remember I went on an avatar kick about a month back, bought some
(buyable) avatar items late at night (say, 11-12pn NST) for the lowest on the Wiz, then priced them in my shop for more than I'd paid for them. Not much more, granted, but more. All of them were gone when I got up the next day, which makes me wonder if prices are lower in the wee hours when fewer people are on. I wonder if a night owl like me could make a profit buying late at night and then selling the next day?

Ooh, you are asking me to divulge my secrets to success??? :battar:

Basically, I surf the wiz looking for specific easy-to-sell items that are at a lower-than-average price and then resell them for the market price. I have figured out which items are most likely to be mispriced or sold quickly because the person doesn't want to wait a few hours or a day to sell the item. Most of those items are those given away by the dailies or random events--bottled faeries, codestones, dubloons, neggs, map pieces.

Some resellers focus only on one particular ETS--map pieces or faeries or codestones. I tend to dabble in most of them, from time to time. I have done it for so long that I pretty much know the approximate prices of most ETS’s, so that when I go into a shop for a cheap faerie, I can also tell whether the dubloon in there is mispriced as well. I started out by selling bottled faeries, but now I deal mainly in neggs. :)

And, yes, the time of day/week does seem to matter. Think of those times when new, inexperienced, or non-die-hard players are more likely to be playing. Times when the snowager is asleep and weekends are good. The hours right after kids get home from school seem to be good times, as well (kids in countries where Neo is really popular--U.S., Britain, Netherlands, Singapore). Some people price low because they don’t play everyday and want the nps before they have to stop playing (I call those people the “weekend warriors”).

I think the key is to figure out what you want to sell and then know the market of that item backwards and forwards. And pick something that will sell relatively quickly. Some people sell only ETS's, others deal only in petpets, others in cheap food, others in the cheaper quest items.

However, reselling isn’t for everyone. You need to be willing to invest a lot of capital, be willing to take a risk, know when to sell short, know your competitors, and be able to put up with the boredom of refreshing on the shop wiz.

All bow to Morningstar, Queen of Reselling! :P

That was quite enlightening (don't worry though, I have no plans to take up reselling. ;))

*blushes* Oh, there's plenty of room for another reseller or two, Qanda.

Reselling is pretty much the only reason why I still play the game. I love making those nps!!!! Should have gone for my business major when I had the chance. ;)
