Fortunalty the scammer was not smart enough to change the e-mail so i got the password the changed it to..i changed it but then i went out to supper and i came back and my account was frozen...:'( i guess i deserve it for being so stupid...i never went on neopets alot though

Oh, I feel really bad for you. And, honestly, don't beat yourself up about being "so stupid," OK? My guess is the chance to have been a Neopets mod sort of let your guard down as to the veracity of the email.

Be sure to send a report to Neopets about the whole thing. And, if you decide to open another account, just PM me and I would be happy to help you get started.

Tested made this fabulous set for me!!! Isn't it great?

Remember, Neopets will NEVER ask you for your password.

They say that here, here, here, and many other places!

Yes, I've just now woke up and reported it to TNT, and forwarded a copy to Kostya because he asked to see it.

Now one thing makes it look real is the fact there's a "Monitors handbook" thing on the e-mail, which is HUGE, and I'd probably break the internet if I tried to post it here.

A monitor's handbook???

I've heard the internet has had some reinforcement work done lately. It should be safe (and very interesting) for you to post. I want to see that bad boy. Even if it is completely fictitious, let's see how much effort they put into it.

I've heard of that handbook. Someone posted it from a scam email they got just like this one. It's quite extensive. Someone spent a looot of time trying to make it look authentic.

Once again, the screenie I show everytime this comes up. A friend sent this fake email out as a lark.

I remember the day Wayne sent that email to you.

I doubt you do. You may've remembered seeing the screenshot before, but at the time the only people that knew about it were Wayne, the others he sent it to, some mutual friends of ours, and myself. I didn't take the screenshot and post it on PPT until almost a year later.

Well, it was asked for, so I put it into a txt file.

http://home.ripway.com/2004-9/172592/monitor.txt

Edit: The other reason I know it's fake is because it's not the e-mail I use for neopets, it IS however the one I have displayed on PPT.

Definately someone who lurks here.

Couldn't be from Neopets.

There aren't nearly enough spelling errors.

Hahahaha.

I'm sorry, that reads similar to the training stuff I have to put my mods through on the sites I admin for.

Looks like the person just took someone's "Training" for another site and altered it for neopets.

Looks like someone had too much time on their hands.

I think it is funny that the manual says not to give out your password and then the scammer asks for your password (to confirm your account)

Half of that was hilariously stupid/inaccurate, and the other half makes me wish it was real. Stupid California laws! The Neoboards need us!

(The Cybering section was particularly amusing, because they were making it seem almost acceptable...)
