I was close to accepting.

Actually, no. HTS normally go for much lower than their asking price. That guy you met was probably an innocent reseller tryin to get rid of an HTS. Since the book was only rarity 90, you couldn't possibly have sold it for 8 million. You made the right choice in rejecting, though not for the right reasons (I frankly don't think it was a scam or anything). :P

I don't think so. I mean, the day he tried to sell that book to me, there were 3 on the TP each asking for 8.whatever million. Now, most are asking for between 150k-300k. go check yourself.

Was the book recently released? If it was, that may be why it deflated so fast in price. Though I still don't get what you mean by him trying to scam you. o_O

No, it wasn't recently released (see prior discussion).

Some accounts recently have been cornering the market supply of relatively rare but not greatly valuable items (often not even unbuyable). Then a few of the accounts have put up the item at 8 million or so, and other accounts offer the item for people's high-priced items, with the items already in the TP as "proof" of the value of the item in question.

A rarity 90 book is never, ever worth 8 million.

And, actually, the book is still pretty new. According to its "placement" among other items, it seems to have been out a few months, but that doesn't mean diddly when it comes to the date that Neopets actually put it into circulation. There has been many a time when Neopets says that it is releasing an item and then doesn't get around to doing so for weeks and even months. An example: the floppy turtum plushie. If you look at its placement in the items, you would think it was released over a year ago. However, it never came onto the shop wiz or into circulation until a few weeks ago.

I saw that book for about 70K a few weeks ago, so my guess is that someone bought them all up hoping to inflate the price to an astronomical amount. That seems to be happening a lot lately.

Best advice: the only things that really rank in the millions are rarity 99's and beyond and maybe, just maybe, some 98's. But 90? No way.

Exactly. That's what happened I believe. Wow, scammers are getting smarter every day. But then, I don't understand quite where the scammer was coming from, since the book is still unbuyable, and he would've made barely 20k profit from the scam. I mean, if I was a scammer, I'd try to make 1mil+, not settle for a mere 20k.

The only thing I can imagine is that the item was very hard to sell, and after having trouble selling it, he decided to use it to scam
