Actually, no. HTS normally go for much lower than their asking price. That guy you met was probably an innocent reseller tryin to get rid of an HTS. Since the book was only rarity 90, you couldn't possibly have sold it for 8 million. You made the right choice in rejecting, though not for the right reasons (I frankly don't think it was a scam or anything).

Was the book recently released? If it was, that may be why it deflated so fast in price. Though I still don't get what you mean by him trying to scam you.

No, it wasn't recently released (see prior discussion).
Some accounts recently have been cornering the market supply of relatively rare but not greatly valuable items (often not even unbuyable). Then a few of the accounts have put up the item at 8 million or so, and other accounts offer the item for people's high-priced items, with the items already in the TP as "proof" of the value of the item in question.
