A few NQ2 questions:

1. What is the penalty for dying on the different difficulty levels? On NQ1 I know if you die on insane, you start over, is NQ2 the same or?

2. Would I be right in saying you can only get the Insane prizes once? Does this apply to evil and normal as well, or can I get an infinite number of evil prizes (assuming I complete it each time).

3. What written guide do you guys recommend? IDNQ's guide is only for the first act, I really want a detailed guide I can refer back to if I get stuck, that goes right through the game.

4. How would you recommend playing the game different on evil compared to normal?

5. Same question as 4, but with insane.

Also, are there any other tips and tricks I should know about?

EDIT: thankyou everyone, not going to annoy people by making a new post :)

It's been a long time since I could stand to play, but I can field these two...

You do have to start over if you die on insane. It hurts no matter how far into it you were. As far as the other two levels go, they're the same; you go back to the last place you rested, and lose a percentage of your gold (this is why many people recommend not selling equipment untilyou need the money).

You are correct in saying that you can only get insane prizes once. I beat insane twice before prizes came out, and only got one prize. You can, however, get as many normal and evil prizes as you can stand to get. (After I beat evil for the 5th time or so, I couldn't stand to play anymore.)

As to the rest of your questions, well, I never really used a guide, and I don't think I did very much that was different on higher difficulty levels other than being very careful and taking it as slowly as I could stand to on insane.

1. NQII is the same. On NQI OR NQII, i you die at ANY POINT, you'll be level one at the starting point.

2. Yes. On insane, you can only get the prize once. You can continuously get the NP, though. And you can still continuously getting BD items and NP from evil and normal.

It's pretty much your choice for 3, 4 and 5.

Evil: same as normal, mainly. This is slightly easier, because of the weapon drops from monsters (you get better weapons/armor at no extra cost). You might want to focus more on innates closer to the start of the game. Generally, as death is not fatal on evil, you can do whatever you want to and get away with it.
Insane is slightly more tricky: if you have the patience, it always pays off to overlevel. The hardest boss there is Zombom (since you only have Rohane to get him, and most people choose to fight him at Level 12 / 13). Concentrate on keeping mipsy alive, rather than getting a big gun at first. Surprisingly, Terask II was not that much harder compared to evil/normal. His extra HP makes little difference (as you can deal more damage than he heals), it will just be a slightly longer battle. Slow/Haste potions are recommended there (and probably everywhere, if you insist on not boring yourself to death fighting random monsters to gain levels).

I've only gotten about 4 (6 at the max) armours/weapons from evil so far. Maybe insane has a higher percentage chance of getting armour/weapons from normal, basic monsters?

Anyway, I've beaten Silicast and am 2 thirds on my way to level 33, which I can gain on the short level 1 of the Ruined Temple. My friend got pwned by Silicast on normal at level 30...he fought Scuzzys at level 28! Now he is SERIOUSLY underleveled for Chapter 4.

Thanks for all the answers, I have another questions now:

When people reffer to when "you die" (and have to start over on insane, or wake in an inn on evil and normal), is that when Rohanne dies or all of your party dies? Is there any particular penalty for other characters, for eg Mipsy dying? None of the things I've read seem very clear on this. Thanks for all the help :)

It depends. Please note that all this that I am explaining is referring to insane mode: If Rohane is the only character you have, and he dies, then you start from level 1 at Trestin. If Rohane and Mipsy are the only charaters you have, and they both die, then you start from level 1 at Trestin with only Rohane. If Rohane, Mipsy, and Tailina are the only characters you have, and they all die, then you start from level 1 at Trestin with only Rohane. If you have everybody, Rohane, Mipsy, Tailina, and Velm and they all die, then you start from level 1 at Trestin with only Rohane.

If any charcter besides Rohane dies, there's no penalty.

So, if you have more than 1 character and Rohane dies, you can just ressurect him? You only restart (Insane)/wake up in an inn (normal and evil) when ALL your characters have died? Is that right, or am I still getting the wrong end of the stick?

Sorry for seeming so slow, but I'd rather be sure than have to start over unexpectedly, and I need to know who I need to protect (but obviously the best outcome if for none of them to die) :P

Thanks for all your patience!

All your characters need to die for you to be forced to restart (Insane) or end up at your last place of rest (Evil, Normal).

thanks, thats all I needed to know :)

People reffering to "you" dying made me think it could be when just rohanne died.

Nice to have such helpful people :)

its odd that when rohane dies, but your other characters are still alive, rohane is still on the traveling map...

I know, I mentioned that a few months ago when NQII threads got 7 pages within 6 hours :P (no really, NQII stickies did). Maybe they're carrying his body :P TNT's too lazy to make icons of other charcters.

Ok the high HPs of these Ruined Temple bosses are anoyying me so I'm just gonna hunt for one level on each level and then sneak to the next level (already level 33 at start of level 2).

I've REALLY had it with my NQII MSN buddy. Jsut because that geocities site say fight Scuzzy at level 28, he does it! And he's seriously underleveled! Level 58 for Terask II? Sure, Pant Devil level, but DEAFINITELY NOT TERASK II! He says he's listening to them because they've beaten NQII! Sure they have, but on normal mode, not evil or insane! Those normal and insane mode screenshots were from their friends! And he says they've got a chat room, so what if they've got a forum, what's that got to do with them? Then he repeats himself. He says they can help him. *pulls out enemy list*

Are you playing on evil? So am I. I beat gerban II and got a dual-cam recurve bow, then also defeated a monster in the Valley of Anicent Kings got also got the same bow. I also got a rigid wand from leximp, and later on a monster in the Cave of Terror. Twice.

I beat The Reverant and the two skeletons, now off to Bukaru (hermit).
