i agree that religion should not be discussed on neopets. my point is, religion IS very present on neopets by the way they embrace christmas. if they're going to stick to the no-religion rule, they need to stick to it themselves.

Skizzy, you know that both the Judaism and Islam also have "angels" (according to a quick google search)? So, while that is blatantly religous, it's not necesarily Christian.

Angels are in almost every society in the world. So I don't see how that an angelic style pet voices a certain religions beliefs...

I don't fully understand why Neopets would give her a warning for wishing someone well in that specific holiday. I remember, when I first joined I remember someone posted "Happy Eid Mubarak" (Islam) and she didn't get frozen at all. Nor a warning. Maybe they are going to enforce it now and she was the first victim. If that's the case, I can't wait till Christmas and see all of the freezings

I think she must've complained in a rude manner to get frozen. I think she wasn't being very hospitable and she was frozen for her rudeness. And if she's circulating this story than it might've been slandered in her favor as TheClone mentioned earlier.

Uh.... the bad thing sbout neopets being religously unfair is that it's... uh... religously unfair... it's kinda self explanatory....

And I also believe neopets should just drop the christmas PB if they're going to say not to talk about religeon. Even if they are using it commercially, it doesn't change the fact that christmas is a christian holiday. And that's all there really is to it...

maybe thats why its so insulting knowing that its from a christian paint brush...

Pffft, I don't associate Christmas with religion at all. It's about presents and lights and Christmas movies on TV and Santa and snow and red and green and shiny stuff! Besides, she could've just been one of the unfortunate people who get frozen for no reason, it just happened to be a coincidence.

First of all, that petition is wrongly worded. What this person is complaining about is discrimination, not "racism". That's something completely different. I think I may have seen this person, or someone who read the petition, on the boards awhile back. I seem to recall someone posting that Neo was racist against Jewish people and at the time I was like, what?! Needless to say, some of the "regs" on the board did their usual thing, ganged up, and the person was reported by I don't know how many people. I do remember that the person was very rude.

If it is the same person, it may well be that they were frozen because of the reporting, not the warning.

Now, to get a warning just for wishing people a happy insert holiday here is going a little far in my opinion, but maybe whoever the mod was that day was feeling overzealous, in a bad mood, whatever. I too saw the Muslim greetings, I found them very interesting and I got to learn something new! The ones I saw were short, sweet and polite. I've seen holiday greetings many times and never thought a thing of it. I wouldn't go on the boards and wish people a Happy Solstice or anything like that. For me that would be inappropriate. And technically saying anything about any type of religion (or what people classify as a religion) is against the rules. So I opt to follow those to the best of my ability. Wonders what would happen if there was a holiday for scientologists...

Neo does have some greetings for different holidays, different faiths now and I'm sure that if they find there's enough people wanting them, they may add more. But that's a greeting, that's not something you're posting.

I don't think they're insensitive to people and their beliefs, they just don't want it talked about on their site. Like your parents would tell you, the 2 things never to bring up are religion and politics. Both can and will start fights.

The christmas pb and painted pets. Yes, there was talk of changing the name and at the time I thought it was silly. Maybe not, maybe it should be renamed to Seasonal or Wintery, something more generic. I'm trying to think how they could change the actual pets though. Would people really want the (now) christmas pets completely changed? I don't find the Zafara particularly religious at all. There are angel images everywhere, and not just in a religious context, but commercial and daily life.

You may not associate it with religeon, but it doesn't change the fact that its base is a religous holiday. And I don't think the pets should be revamped. because they are all pretty much commercial. It's just the name. And why is it such a big deal to have the paint brush called a Christmas Paint Brush? Would it be so horrible to have it a winter paint brush?

Anubis and Horus (I name only two for simplicities sake) last I knew these two are named after Gods of an Ancient Religion (which I don't doubt that some people, in minorities still follow).

Maybe before warning people about well-wishing on various religious holidays they should think about removing any religious symbolism/information they have on the site? Just my opinion, I know it won't really make a difference but *shruggs*

I also remember someone getting annoyed about the Anubis and Horus petpets and complaining that had they created and named a petpet Jesus there definately would have been a back-lash.

I think there are definate double standards between the majorities and the minorities - as occurs a lot even in the real world. I would however like to be able to view the whole story (both sides, etc) of the circumstances that cause this petition to be made.

The reason why there is a rule against discussing religion on Neopets is to stop argument.You don't want a whole board full of people saying, "MY RELGION IS BETTER THAN YOURS!", or, "Jewish people stink!Up with Hitler!!!".And besides, Neopets was designed for kids, and you don't want them to be convinced by religional discussion.
