No offense to you, but people like you are probably the reason mystery island lost. Joining it because it has the highest score and then not playing drags its score down.

Ofcourse, you still made the right decision, because if there's any team that might survive with people dragging it down it's the one with the highest score.

People who don't play shouldn't be counted as participants. If Neopets is giving even minimal prizes to people with a total of 0-0-0 records, then that's kind of messed up. Plus, counting them out and stating that fact will prevent players from going at each other's throats and from trying to get less active players to join or move onto other teams instead of theirs.

Hmmm..I think if you supported the right team from the start you should still get some sort of prize

Yes, and I expect there is in fact a treshold of a single game to be counted for anything. But many go ahead and play a round or two, like he/she said, they dont 'really' play. It helps, but it's no solution.

And eh, I have no objection if people who don't play get some sort of prize, as long as it's different from what players get. Like a supporters hat or something. They'll be massively available and thus monetarily worthless anyway.

If you mean, by "support", that the person actually plays the game, then I agree. Otherwise, let's look at a small example:

Suppose there are only two teams, Team A and Team B. Team A has four participants. Team B has two participants. They play one round against one another. Two players from Team A post 30-0-0 records, while the other two players from Team A don't play at all and post records of 0-0-0. Both players from Team B post 30-0-0 records.

Now, who should we say won the round? Should the two players on Team A be punished because the other two players on Team A did not do anything?

It should also be noted that it takes a minimum 90 minutes of playing to get a 30-0-0 record (since each game is at least 3 minutes long). It takes zero minutes to get a 0-0-0 record. Can someone who spent no time on the game really be considered a "participant"?

I agree with that. I think they should count only people who played, even if they're not very good at the game. In the editorial they mentioned the fact that goals counted, and losses too, so they should count people who plays, not wins. Someone who plays and loses gets their team some points, therefore is better than someone who doesn't play at all.

Yes, as far as we know that helps more than not sending anything.

That's my point. It's ok to reward people who'll support a team without really playing with something fun to keep as a memory or put in your gallery, as long as it's not worth many neopoints because that'd unbalance the work vs reward thing. Obviously I don't think an item that's not worth much in neopoints isn't necessarily worthless in general, otherwise there would have been no reason to specify 'monetary' worth. So don't make silly assumptions please

If you don't send any points at all, you could be hurting your team. TNT said that scores are based on a weighted average, so a team with a lot of non-players or people who send only one win will have a lower score.

However, if someone joins but sends no scores at all, I'm also thinking/hoping TNT just won't count them when they're averaging scores or giving out individual points. Sure, maybe they'll get some kind of supporter prize (I like that idea of a supporter's hat!), but they won't be entitled to any better prizes because they won't have any actual points. TNT can't tell if your heart is with your team or if you just joined the one with the best score. ;)

This is not really something against you or directed to you specifically. This is just something that has been bugging me since the uber popular team Faerie Land was completely routed out of the tournament by a huge margin as the last place team, even when compared to the second-to-last team. It doesn't make sense to me, and I'm guessing something in the scoring equation is not quite right.
