what time was this happening (NST)

Tue Jan 17, 2006 12:28 pm

Around 6 PM NST

You guys

Tue Jan 17, 2006 1:36 pm

I know you guys are going to hate me for saying this, but please bear in mind I'm not any of these newbs goign "KAOS ROCKS!" on the boards.

I have to say that Kaos should be respected to a small degree. Yes, he's cookie grabbing accounts. Yes, he's causing Chaos (which I don't like personally). Yes, he's got into TnT's account and a Mod's account.

But.

He has challenged over 100 people who work at the office of TnT. He has done this repeatly for 4 days now? He's got into one of the most important accounts in the game. The man/woman knows their stuff, let's just admit it. He/she knows how to work their magic, and knows how to hit.

Now, maybe they're trying to proove something to Adam and crew, I don't know. But he is showing skill (once again.) and prooving to be able to bypass anything they've set up. Now, even though he/she is hated, I give them the acknowledgement and small respect that he can do what he says, not alot of us do that anymore intodays world because we're to caught up in lies, or troubles or just don't care.

I suspect that Kaos reads these boards, better yet is probally an active member who posts very often. Maybe Rune even picked him/her out for that CBS interview ;), hence why he's doing this? No idea. But either way, he's shown he has skill and I think we all should just acknowledge we're just pawns in the only Neopets War we'll see anytime soon...

I think he is doing this because TNT ignored him when he pointed out a glitch that could be exploited. They ignored him and now he's proving it to them. That's what I thought anyway.

Well, either way, he's prooven he can do whatever he needs to to get known, so I have so respect for him for that.

Yup, gotta admit that his skills are good. Heard that he's only 14/16 years old only. Woah!!

But, even if he's out to prove a point to TNT, what with stealing NP from owners who worked so hard for their stuff. They don't deserve that. Especially, those who spent lots of NP on their pets. To lose it just like that is heart-breaking...

Thing is, even if you're a staff member, it's so easy to fall for it, even easier. I mean, you don't even have to say "Visit my lookup" or anything to get people to go there, you could post things like "Baby Paint Brush for 1 NP in Auctions". Who is going to go to the auction house and search "Baby Paint Brush" ?? Nobody, they're instead going to click onto the lookup of the poster and click "My auctions"

With staff, you simply have to report the shop or lookup etc, and they go view the page to check it out...

It takes a lot to pull it off, yes, but they've proved their point, why not leave other's accounts alone now ??

</big nice post in case TnT are reading this and feeling generous enough to give protestors of Kaos' deeds lots and lots of Neopoints> :P

mmmmmm... I don't know that I would use the word respect .... acknowledgement that he is a threat sure... but I am not convinced he has done much to be respected for, there is alot of speculation as to wether or not he wrote this, or just handed it out.

If he EVER had noble intentions, which I am having trouble believing, why did he make the choices he did? Why not just get of mods over and over again, take a few sure to be missed items out of their inventory, send it to yourself and send it back to them so that the little gift Icon pops up, and make the problem undeniable?

How can you claim you were just trying to help when all you are doing is leaving a path of destroyed accounts? The ends will NOT be able to justify the means on this one.

BTW, lol, Good one TDG!!!

I almost never go to the boards, and I rarely restock or stalk the shop wiz. (Which 'splains why I'm so poor... I haven't had over 100K in months)

I have this itchy feeling that they might mass-clear everyone's lookup and shop code. Seems like I remember they did that to guilds and shops once, to clear out off-site links. I went ahead and copied all my pet and lookup codes to text files just in case they do that again.

Man I'd really hate to see an end to user-edited petpages and lookups. That's a lot of what makes neopets such a unique site. I could live with shops having stricter editing codes. I don't like having to scroll through three screens of inuyasha pictures and someone's favorite pet slideshow to the tune of zelda music to buy a codestone, anyway. They can leave that stuff for galleries. I don't have to go to someone's gallery to buy a book or quest item or training item.

Am I impressed that he knows how to do this? Perhaps. Do I empathise with his frusteration against TNT? Maybe. But I cannot respect someone who abuses this sort of "power" to ruin the accounts of innocent bystanders, especially when many of them could be young children. If he's trying to play the hero, he's doing a very good job of it.

(And I know you covered this in your post, Slime Lord; I'm just ranting at no one in particular.)

I'm going back in once more today to change my password and re-lodge my pets, and then I'm leaving for the week (unless I get desperate enough to start fiddling with my Java settings on a reqular basis).

It's fixed now, at least in shops. I'll check userlookups in a moment.

Edit: Yeah, userlookups are fixed too.

Tue Jan 17, 2006 4:43 pm

I have no respect for "Kaos." He didn't get into one of the most important accounts in the game; he got into some random mod's account (when a mod closes a thread, it's marked as theneopetsteam no matter which mod it is, probably so no one will attack that mod). That's not too hard to do -- all he'd have to do is create an inappropriate shop or userlookup, the poor mod goes to check it out, and bam, cookiegrabbed. We don't know if he actually wrote the code, found it somewhere or bought it from someone. And it is just some stupid code; he's not a hacker who can get into TNT's computers. No, I have no admiration for what this kid can do at all, and I wish TNT would just contact his ISP and get him kicked off the Internet already.

Three questions:
1- Does that mean it is safe to go back? (Insomuch as Neopets has the same level of razor edge safeness it always does.) (I don't go to shops and lookups anyway, but am still paranoid)

2- How much do we owe you for your ungodly ability to sift through code to make sure it is safe?

3- How did you get your ungodly ability to sift through code to make sure it is safe?

Edit: I completely and eternally agree with Cranberry and anyone else with similar views that think this 'kaos' person should be keelhauled, at the very least.

Tue Jan 17, 2006 4:57 pm

Nope, no respect or admiration here, either. So he's smart, assuming he isn't just steal the code from someone else. So what? The world is full of smart people. It's how you use your intelligence that makes it admirable.

As far as I know. I understood how this one worked, but I never did as much checking around for other possible routes as with the last one. I also didn't report it: it was fixed before my contacts logged in. So I think it's safe, but if I were betting my life on it I'd wait around a little while and see if anything pops up in the next half day.

Skynetmain wrote:2- How much do we owe you for your ungodly ability to sift through code to make sure it is safe?

Nothing. :) Though... *cough* If TNT felt like offering me a job... since it's kind of obvious they need me... :P

Skynetmain wrote:3- How did you get your ungodly ability to sift through code to make sure it is safe?

Eh. It could be done by pretty much anyone with a strong knowledge of HTML and javascript and the time and desire to claw through all the rumors and misinformation. I just happen to fit both of those. :)
