Er...did I miss something - Do these colours actually exist for those 3 species or is this something I'm unaware of?

The wocky is to me obviously a girl, the outfit looks Chinese and with her holding a stick, that looks to be a martial arts wocky. So I think an oriental pb that paints each species/gender something different would be wonderful!

Back on topic - I am now convinced that the tainted pets/petpets in the cards are under some sort of evil spell. After looking at the TCG cards, I also found Tainted Meridell, Tainted Altador, Tainted Minions and Dinner is Served,

which looks like the King has been tainted too.

If there is a plot, it looks kind of Meridell/Darigan to me. Also looks like it would be more of a typical battling plot. Just look at this card:
