It's just supply and demand. If an item is in more demand the price will go up - simple as. You only need to look at avatar items to see that. It isn't greed, it's just the way the world goes round.

And neo do provide an alternative - almost everyone knows about the healing springs, it's right there on the map rather than being hidden away. Supply and demand is a very basic economical principle and there is no way around it without crashing everything. If I have a Magic Cookie that I bought for 900nps in my SDB and I wish to sell it - the current price is 4,900nps, which shall I sell it for? No contest really. And the fact is on neo it isn't a basic need - in fact there are no basic needs.

And to be honest if my pet is ill for too long and the healing springs faerie is reluctant to heal him I'll do what I usually do - go and spend all of ten minutes playing a couple of games and buy him the cure.

Yes, the alternative remedies do help...if people are aware of them. I've almost played a month, got Sneezles four or five times in that period, and tried the Healing Springs a few times before giving up on them. I think I even waited until she said I was fully restored or something, but still the Sneezles were there. Maybe I read it wrong. But I believe, if everyone knew to just keep going back to the Springs every 30 minutes until they got the right message, the aftermarket costs of these medicines would plummet. 5000 Neopoints is a full hour of my time spent playing Neopets games. It might be more or less for other people. Checking a Spring every thirty minutes takes less than 10 seconds.

By the way, for those whose pets get sick and don't want to run out and sell their souls for medicines right away, the thing to do is to NOT look at your pets' lookup page. You can look at it once to check what ailment it has, but, once it is sick, every time you check that page, it's mood grows progressively worse. If you don't check that page, you can keep playing, keep going to the Springs or whatever, and, when you finally have the ailment cured, you can go back to the pet lookup page and see that your pet has only dropped one level or two in mood. This saves a lot of the hassle of having to keep clicking on "play with your pet" to get its mood back up again from the very bottom state (forgot what it was).

Like I said earlier it's the quick ref page you have to avoid not the pets lookup page ;) (Though I think that's what you meant, just clarifying ^^).

Most people do know about the healing springs like I say, the fact is though that sometimes people want a quick fix. if I'm battling with my pet and he catches something I have far less patience with the healing springs so I'll pay more to cure him.

I do think it would be a good idea for Neopets to have an official Dailies Page with links to all that is free in Neopets and a description of what each place does, how often you can use it etc. I'm not sure how much of an effect that would have on medicine prices though as there are always those that will just try the healing springs once and then buy the cure if the pet is still ill.

If your sick pet's mood is going downhill -- IIRC you can still bring up a sick pet's mood by playing with it. It just takes a while... use the F5 refresh trick.

I do understand about wanting to protect your pet's paint job. I used to go to the Healing Springs, but now I think I might be more inclined to buy medicine. Now that there's Underwater Fishing, I generally visit my Quickref page 6 times a day to change my active pet.

I actually agree that hyperinflation sucks, but the cost of the Wheel of Excitment medicine isn't an example of it. That's just the normal economics of supply and demand (plus a little price speculation when the disease first changes.)
