Royal PB sold for 700k in auctions
Smugglers Treasure Chest offered on (something cheap) by a newbie account
3 Cool Neggs offered for a Cloud PB

Many people claim there's been freezing potions, h4000 helmets, and cool neggs sold buyable...but no one has any screenie of proof.

Hoax? Real? I don't know. BUT EVERYONE, BE CAREFUL! IF IT'S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE - IT PROBABLY IS. DON'T RISK YOUR ACCOUNT FOR A GOOD DEAL.

Ok, I know those could be dupe suspicions, but I have a reasonable explanation. Royal PB-User put it in for 500k, hoping it'd go up to real price(as they usually do) but it ended up getting sold for 700k. Smugglers Treasure Chest offered on something cheap-could be giving it from his main to a gallery file? Or something else to do with transferring it. 3 cool neggs for cloud pb- Ok this one's hard. But one, the users struck a deal, one needed cool neggs, the cool negg dude really needed it, couldn't sell his neggs, the cloud pb person wouldn't go lower then all 3 and so they traded. OR they could have been friends. I trade like that all the time with my friends. For the holidays, me being the richer one, tho I'm not very rich mind you, usual buy them better items and get worse items in return, :) that's all I could think of. There is someone who has a cloud pb 250np on the tp, I neomailed to see if it was a typo or not so let's wait to see her answer.

The scams happening around Neopets just keeps getting more and more. Although TNT has taken steps to prevent this, they can never be completely be destroyed. This is the thing about the Internet.

There is always someone better than you

When you make something someone will try to beat you. it's like the real world.

The thing is just that as long as you feel the item is kinda impossible to happen or will only happen like once in a red moon then DON'T do it. There is no free lunch on earth (well except the free monthly food, mac giveaway..etc). One must work for everything and something that is going for more than 20% it's price is highly suspicious.

Not really. I'd be more suspicious if it was going for 20% less than its price :P

Sorry, just felt like being a bit picky

I'd only be afraid if there's talk of duped items going on. A couple weeks ago I picked up a Nabile (TCG) from the auctions for 150k, they're going for 750k on the post now. That's 20% exactly. But that's perfectly normal good luck in the auctions. If there were dupes going on, then I'd be afraid.

I've heard nothing more on the matter today anywhere so I'm guessing it was just a hoax after all?

With auctions, it's harder to tell, because, once in a while, hardly anybody notices that the item is up for bid and you can get a great deal on it. The seller expects the item to be bid up, so low starting prices are common.

With shops, it's easy to tell when something is unusually low, since the prices are static. If I was a person selling duped items, I'd go with auctions, because people don't get suspicious of low prices there.

In other words, I'm staying away from buying/trading anything of value until this passes over. Not that I do it often, anyway, though.

All false.

There are no "duping programs." When duplications occur, its simply a bunch of script kiddies exploiting a glitch on Neopets. Last time, it was where changing something in the source in a special browser could get you an infinite amount of items out of your SDB.

The uniquely numbered but also seems extremely unlikely, but I have no clue. There are billions and billions of items on Neopets in millions of accounts, so it seems near impossible for such a system. However, each kind of item has a special ID. Like all Cool Neggs are 19192 or something like that.

And last time, people were frozen, yes, but a rollback never occured. At least if you were talking about when we saw a bunch of Cool Neggs and Faerie Slingshots in the Money Tree.

Every item has a unique ID number. It's visible if you look in the status bar of your browser when you mouseover an item in a usershop.

Actually, last time the duplication hit, it was because someone abused the coding in the SDB and editted the values of items and manage to duplicate them.

Oops, didn't see thingys post >.<

Weeelll... that's not entirely true

Sites like (for instance) eBay, banks or credit card companies are protected very well, so that every opening or exploit is taken care of and they become unbreakable. So it doesn't matter how good the hacker is, he won't be good enough.
Plenty of opportunity for scammers though...

There was no rollback. And, not all people possessing duped items were frozen. Many people who got duped items put them on the TP with a note asking TNT to please delete the item. And, those that did not only got the item deleted, but also an email from staff thanking them for being honest.
