1. FIVE PETS. Four is too random a number, and it really isn't all that difficult to care for your pets. Get free food from the freebees, keep a tombola key ring in your inventory for a toy, visit the healing springs when they get sick... Really, caring for pets is no challenge, to anybody.

2. Get rid of the Neoboards. I know, I know... but it's really a breeding ground for scams, hurt feelings, and frozen accounts. They're just so much trouble, they're not... worth it. Just my opinion.

3. Let people change their pets' names (or your usernames too actually! I'd like a change) to names that are not already taken. Or if not possible, I'd at LEAST like to be able to change the capitalization of my pets' names. My draik came from the pound with an uncapitalized name, it really bugs me.

4. The 1k per game thing, restocking can get you millions with one item, it's only fair for us slow-computered Neopians.

5. Better system for the Trading post, make it reportable to have an item that is not for sale/trade, or reserved for your pet when it gets done labbing... that's what your SDB is for. Don't bother showing it off. And also make them have a wishlist, no one offers on trades that say "none," they just waste space.

That's all that truely bugs me right now. :) I might post later with more if I think of some...

Edit: OH!!! When searching the Shop Wiz, you should be able to pick which line you search! I spend too much time refreshing these days to price my own items, since I like to see what my *true* competition (my wiz line) is selling the item for. :)

Hmm, what would I add...?

1. A rarity cap - as in weapons for the battledome.
Come on, just how many weapons are there on Neopets and what's the majority of great versus utterly useless? Useless outranks great. Instead of r99 weapons that are otherwise pretty but can't do jack, make them worthy of that title! It doesn't do anyone any good to have a r99 weapon which sucks (unless you're a gallery fanatic, but I speak as a battledomer who is unable to understand the useless weapons ratio on the site). Those weapons that do great things are 30,000,000NP too much for some newcomers here. Bring the whole icon-damage thing to a head. I hate seeing inflation during wars because it puts me into the "poor souls with not enough NP to afford a Honey Potion" or basically "One of the people Illusen hates with a vengeance".

Probably also to diminish the weapons which otherwise do nothing at all but sit there gathering dust on someone's SDB shelf. Sure, they look absolutely pretty, if you're a gallery owner that is, but for avid battledomers, affording a decent battledome set is murder on yourself...especially with lousy connections. I may have a good connection which is reliable and fast, but even I can't make a good restock when you're competing against almost a billion others all vying for the same item >>; Oftenmost, because of my other-side-of-the-world location, restocking even on 256kbps is almost impossible.

2. Neoboards = outta here
Breeding ground for general hatred, scams, report-happy individuals with no lives and people who just pick on others for the sake of it. Come on, schoolgrounds exist for a reason; let these poor souls use a real-life setting instead of trying to look big online.

For those honest souls, let them come here and use these boards. We at least make no moves to senselessly nor intentionally hurt people >>;

3. Games = 5 times instead of 3 times a day.
For those not so crash-hot at games, this would be a boon. It would probably also breed a bunch of cheaters this way, but that's why Neopets has the contact us form, and we can tell the difference between "when people are naturally good at games" and "those who are cheating their brains out". A score of 1,000,000 points on a game like Turmac Roll is a bit obvious...

4. Food rarities - instead of Rarity 99's, why not just classify them as Special? And keep the rarity of some foods DOWN?
Who here has been on a Snow Faerie Quest lately? Been asked for items that would have otherwise been cheap buys but thanks to rapid inflation and supply running low suddenly shot through the roof? Me on MANY counts. Certainly, the economy has to live somehow, but why are so many cheap foods suddenly gone AWOL through the roof and are now classified as gallery rarities? (People will be saying false inflators, I believe that may only be half of the problem).

Everytime Neopets releases a new food, suddenly any pet within range (say foods for Yurble Day, Draik Day, etc) suddenly gets classified as "must-haves". For gallery collectors, certainly this is how you make the site fun for you - for others it's like trying to catch a whale on a short fishing line, it doesn't really work. Most are between Rarity 75 - Rarity 99, which for Snow Faerie and Kitchen Chef Quests makes it hard to get a cheap one every month or two.

I guess what I'm saying is, most Rarity 99 foods shouldn't be given that title. I just feel it's adding to the site's many economy problems.

5. More Staff - also an up to date version of the Terms & Site Conditions.
How many people have been utterly confused by their contradictions to their site's T&C's? I know I have - which is WHY I haven't touched my Gallery Account in MONTHS. I do not want my main account frozen for no good reason >>;

If they could just wipe the slate clean, rewrite it so it's possible to understand without any more stupid loopholes in the freezing of accounts and etc, this would probably be Neopets's first step into actually making the site a little more useful.

Why more Staff?
More understanding staff to review a report and not just immediately hit Mr. Freeze Button for no good reason. Falsifying reports is an offense on a big name corporate site, it leads to freezing (or so Neopets says - they freeze the honest soul and the culprit gets the heck away to do it again on a regular basis...). They need a better freeze system. Freezing should be the ultimate penance for a repeat offender. Three strikes and you're out type of thing doesn't work with this.

It doesn't help when the culprit simply makes a new account and starts all over again, but most scammers/harrassers usually never stray from their original account names because a) they're lazy and b) they couldn't care less, for them it's a way of curing boredom. For the rest of us, this is hell if we're being repeatedly targeted by the same person.

The Staff red-flagged accounts with the Lab Ray (I'm guessing here! I don't know what they did!), so why not red flag account names that are being used for cheating/scamming/harrassing/stealing art/etc? 5 red flags on one account and BOOM, you're out - do it again, maybe get an ISP lock on the location and freeze that IP address? (yes, I'm aware how this could fail, but it's just a suggestion...). Three strikes isn't enough for these kinds of people. Go to 5, and someone's just not going to like you very much.

This has been done on the forum I used to co-run and it's been very effective so far. In my experience, it's an open invite for these idiots to push the boundary, not realising they may very well be being flagged as they continue on their dumb tact. It's just a thought, but it could very well work.

6. I love smudgeoffudge's suggestion:
Painted pets would have certain abilities that came with being painted and also certain weaknesses. That is, fire pets would be better at fire abilities but weak to water attacks.

Something like saying battledome weapons would be helpful but not necessary in the end! *wishful thinking*

I'd also like to see codestones removed from the site. I'd rather like to have a use of all my spare NP rather than spending 5 - 100k on a codestone and only going up one level at a time >>; I'd like to see you actually having a NP cap for certain abilities: Try this for a thought - 5k to raise 5 points of all stats? That's like 1k for 5HP, 1k for 5 defense, 1k for 5 strength and so on.

Could be fun, I think ^_^

For those in the Lab Ray, this could make it totally redundant, but helpful (who here has had "And he/she goes down to Level 1" lately, courtesy of the Lab Ray? This system could have better results...).

Actually being able to use Dubloons for buying rare petpets and not spending 5 dubloons in one hit for ONE stat could be a helpful boon. It would probably not make obtaining dubloons any easier, but I would like to think getting rid of expensive codestones would be one step easier for newcomers to train their pets...

I'd love to have a Cloud Kougra with air abilities but weaknesses to most of the other elements. I <3 that idea...*wishes*

I write WAY too much ^^; Gomen-ne!

I felt it was kinda redundant, considering I've resigned myself to thinking it could probably never work as well as reading books and training up in the battledome does...XD

6. Have a Restocking War - kind of like they have at Subeta. There would be a high scores table and trophy for the people who restock the most rare items each month. Every month the top 25 people would get to go on a shopping spree. Everybody on the site except for the winners would be restock banned for a couple of hours.

That strikes me as a very poorly conceived idea.

i agree

So that wasn't just me going NONONONONONO?

Hmmm, here are the things I would change:

1. Remove the 99,999 NP limit on user-owned shops.
Inflation has made this cap really, really, REALLY frustrating. It also makes artificial inflation much much easier. If a person had to buy all the Magenta Neopets Mugs under, say, 500,000 NP they'd be making a much smaller profit.

2. Have the Shop Wiz "cycle" through the different shop listings.
It would start on a random list, then go down the alphabet. So if it started at the page with the G names on it, when you refresh it would move to the H page, and so forth. After the M page it'd go back to the A's again.

3. Let users help with the reports.
Each report gets looked at by 20 or so users, who rate them priority-wise, and vote on whether or not it merits a 24-hour account suspension. The usernames(both the reporter and the reported) would be removed. Obviously there would have to be some sort of way to make sure a user was qualified to do this, but because I'm being all idealistic, I won't try to figure out how it would be done.

4. No more instafreeze.
Just because a person has a lot of friends on Neopets or a lot of accounts doesn't mean they should be able to freeze someone just by mass-reporting him or her.

5. Eliminate the Neoboards.
They're a teeming mass of ickyness, and they're the major perpetrator of instafreeze. Either fix them or nix them.

6. A prize for being on Neopets for 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, etc.
I mean, it'd kind of rankle the people that got unfairly frozen, but that would stop happening so much with the above 2 ideas implemented.

The NeoBoards don't cause evil, they attract evil. If we closed down the NeoBoards, there would be more people on the Trading Post, in Guilds, on the Notice Board, on User Lookups spamming, scamming and just generally being horrible. As long as we give the user's somewhere to express themselves, some people will abuse that privilige.

Personally, I like the NeoBoards. Whenever I restock something, I just post on the NeoBoards "(eg) Magic Ghost Marshmallows - 8k" and the item is usually sold within 5 minutes. It's even better with Codestones and Faeries. It's not always bad, it's just some immature users who make it so.

Yes, but you can kick a spammer/scammer out of a guild. There's less chance (IMO) for scamming directly on the Trading Post - there's other trades to look at. I felt so badly for a new girl the other day who bought two Healing Potion IIIs and a Wooden Blocking Shield for around 1500k b/c the person sold to her over the HC. She had no idea what the shop wizard was, and had to be instructed (by the person who was selling to her) how to use the trading post... and I was made out to be the bad guy when I tried to step in to let her know that she was GROSSLY over-paying. On the Trades, odds are that there will be enough legitamate trades that scamming cannot happen as easily.
Plus, User Lookups... honestly, how much spamming can you do on a User-Lookup? I know if it weren't for the boards, I'd probably never visit anybody's user-lookup outside of my gild...

Agreed. We have guild boards, Neomail, and Neopets-related forums. We don't need this. I never chat on the boards anymore--I've simply given up.

I agree that the T&C is due for an update. We need the rules clear.

And also, I cannot stress this enough- DON'T FREEZE PEOPLE WITHOUT A GOOD REASON! I agree that there should be people to look into reports instead of auto-freezing.

I may quit Neopets. They may be the most popular, but they're going downhill. The main things that are keeping me going are my FFQ and Neoquest II.

Personally? I think getting rid of the boards is not a good idea. What they may have wanted to rethink was getting rid of general chat. Seems to me alot of the silliness/spam ONG type of stuff really didn't start infiltrating the other boards until that one was gone.

I know, many of those people moved to the new board and a couple others that I don't use. But there are useful boards. I used to be a total HC'er -- until gen chat was taken away. Now I can't stand it. I will still take a look to see if someone really does need help and I will help them. So, the boards, while they can be frustrating, can also be very useful and helpful.

I still think a sticky at the top of each board with a short list of chat rules/netiquette would be a good thing - we could direct people to that sticky if they're begging (either outright or asking for "donations"), asking for tips, offering to pay or asking for pay for graphics, spamming, chain letters, things like that.

The monitors, IMO, do really try to do as good a job as they can. It's not easy being a mod. I do think there should be more training/oversight with new monitors. Warnings/suspensions maybe, but new mods should not be able to freeze unless it's something really obvious. I know when I started as a volunteer mod on the small help forum I'm on, I was on "probation" for close to a month. For the first 2 weeks I couldn't do anything -- if I found something, I pm'ed admin or a senior mod and they took whatever action was needed. Then I was allowed to edit topics (no outside links, emails, profanity, etc.), then allowed to lock boards and start giving warnings. Now I full access, I can IP ban (not that that does any good), but it was a slow process and I think it was a good one.

I also think that "Report this Message" should definitely be removed. Too many people with issues are just hitting that button. If they had to go to another page, maybe they'd think before reporting. It's the way things used to be and there was less reporting/less warnings/suspensions/freezings. I know someone from TNT (Snarkie the wonderful I think?) did say that all reports are looked at, that adding anything to a report doesn't change the original message, but I have to say I have a hard time with that. All you need to see is one mass report/freeze out of a personal vendetta to make you wonder if that's true (that every report is looked at).

Having users look at reports? I don't think that's a good idea, even with usernames removed. It's too subjective. What will offend one person, another will think is hilarious and vice versa. Taking care of looking at reports and deciding the course of action belongs to the paid staff. Just my opinion.

The filters also need "tweaking". I've been seeing an awful lot of warnings coming out of nowhere for things people have not done or said. I've witnessed some of them.

Shop/TP pricing limits. I'd forgotten about that one, but I think it's something that should be considered. Raise the ub price in shops to even 150k instead of 100k -- that would help alot of people selling and buying and I think it would help with artificial inflation. TP? raise the pure NP offer to at least 1 million. That won't stop the artificial inflation scams, but it would help when buying/selling on the TP in general.

Last, lower the cost to increase shop size, especially now with the new gallery option. Alot of people aren't switching, keeping things UB in their shops because they've already spent so much and don't want to have to spend again to start up a separate gallery. Maybe if it didn't cost so much, more people would take advantage of the separate gallery option. Or pro rate the cost if you have a shop and a gallery. That would help with wiz searching too, which has become quite a job all on its own. I really don't like the way they have it categorized anymore. There's too many pages to try to search through!

Userlookups - Move the editing box for inputting/changing/correcting stuff for your lookup. It used to be on the main chat board page (anyone else remember that?). I hate having to enter my password every time I want to move my shield by like 10 because something else has been added (like the new sidebar count - bleh). I just don't see why we need "security" for changing our lookups.

MK - the idea of just paying for training courses never even occurred to me! I really like that idea. Instead of putting your pet in for training, finding out which codestones you need, then searching for them, they could just have a list of how much courses cost depending on your pet's level and when you enter training, it's deducted from your on-hand np. That could be very handy!

- Account name changer to something else that isn't taken

- Petpet lab ray (which, according to the editorial they are going to do anyway. I can stop bothering them now :P)

- Something that gets rid of the Abers for good (like an ever-changing code or, I dunno, magic).

- More darigan pets :P

- I agree with choosing where your quest rewards go (like Kitchen Quest stats go to your active pet)

- A candy paint brush :D

- Something (paint job/item) that protects your expensive pet from Boochi/invisibility/red/blue events!

Aber = Autobuyers, or "the easiest program in the world to use and the easiest way to get innocent Neopians frozen".

I've been temporarily frozen for hanging around in the Chocolate Shop when ABer's have been running rampant - I probably got pinged because it took an extra 30 seconds to get out of there. Fortunately, I got my main back within the hour, but it taught me one thing - avoid the shops mainly when new r80 - r99 items are released >>;

I don't think there's any special changing code you can do, really. Someone out there will find a way. Prevent against idiots, someone's going to end up the better idiot. I'm not a programmer, but getting rid of the ever-changing security code wasn't a good idea to me - sure, they had their occasional hiccups here and there (same code for everybody, mass email response, etc), but it put the freezing rate down for a few months.

I'm not sure how to curb ABer's honestly. Maybe getting rid of certain NP caps and r99 altogether may be something to go for...?
