Can anybody refresh a bunch and confirm this is not just an ad for 18+ or 13+?

Despite what you believe, teaching people how to NOT have children 9(just in case) isn't that bad a thing. Anybody over the age of 13 should know what birth control is, if they DON'T then there is a bigger problem here.
But if it's an ad available to kids under 13, then I can see a problem.

I'm more concerned about the political ads and such.

I can see your point but my problem is that I have 2 children (under 13) who will often be sitting with me when I am on neopets. Personally I think that ALL ads on neo, regardless of the users supposed age, should be family friendly. This is a family site that we are talking about, I dont need to see ads like that when I am trying to play a game or something to unwind.

I honsetly don't see what the problem of seeing a birth control ad is. I mean, I'm 14 myself, and I've seen much worse ads than birth control believe me, and I don't feel as if it's affected me in any negative (or positive) way.

I mean, I've been a net junkie since I was like 12, and I've seen every ad possible, from the Wiggles to well... other stuff (unintentionally of course). People are making too much of a dilemma with these ads. They're not great some of them, but it's not as if seeing some of these ads will scar you for life. And quite often, kids may not want to see the ads themselves, and will just avert their eyes away from it if they find it not suiting their tastes. Even my 8 year old brother knows when he sees something innappropriate to look away.

As long as Playboy ads don't start showing up on Neo, I don't think theres really that much of a problem. Birth Control, as bad as it is, is not something that any kid with a social life or lots of brains would not know about at the age of 12 or older. Many kids learn about it before from friends and even siblings, and thats something, NOBODY can control. We live in an age where it's damn near impossible to hide something from other people.

But back onto topic,
Birth control ads = not great, but not terrible
Playboy ads= A very angry TNT and a petition to remove the banners

Actually now that I think about it, if they start getting innappropriate ads on Neo, maybe Doug will realise just how damaging they really are to TNT's rep, and (possibly) revert back to the small banners, or even trash them altogether. But that's a long shot.

The age filters don't work that well anyway. How many people on neopets do you know that typed in their correct age? Mine's right, but many kids under 13 aren't stupid. They're going to make the over 13 account, and under 18 kids will probably bump it up to over 18 too. So that 12 year old may have written 35, so they get the adult ads just because they wanted to have the 'best' account.

Even more so now that the luck/chance games are only available to over 13's.

What's the problem with birth controll adds?

If you don't care for them, ignore them. Unless you're the type that subscribes to the abstinence only idiocy, there's nothing even remotely offensive about birth control stuff even by 'normal' standards and working with the premise that offense is relevant at all.

I say go them. May even prevent a few unwanted teen pregnancies.

My problem with it? My sis-in-law has enough trouble trying to keep my 10 year old neice from wanting to be grown up too fast. Now you want her to ask Mommy about the 'heat of the moment' and ask her advice on the right birth control? I don't think so! My sis will have that talk with when it's time. She shouldn't learn about it on a website she clicked on from a banner from a 'family site'. Luckily my brother is a computer geek and she already know never to click on most banners and ads.

I have nothing against birth control. However, I feel that ads for such a product is inappropiate for Neopets....I also would feel that tobacco ads, alchohol ads, and ads for erectile disfunction are inappropiate for Neopets.

Wow. I thought you were a lot older than that. :)

Anyways, I'm really not too thrilled about this. If I had little ones, I definitely wouldn't want them seeing it. You know kids sign up for accounts that are "older" than they are. I wouldn't want my 8 year old asking me about birth control because they saw it on neo. (Note: I do not have an 8 year old... just an example)

Yeah, I saw that screenshot, what I ment to ask for was for a link to the sponsor page (where it directs you when you click on that ad).

I should have been more clear, sorry. :)

I'd argue that whenever they ask or look for the information that that's probably the best judgement on when someone is ready. And what exactly is the harm of learning it elsewhere or early?

What's so bad about it? It's a bit unclear, which would work against it's efficiency... which would be to the advantage of those not wanting it to be there in the first place, and it's not at all graphic, which again is an argument for it staying.

I agree with you completely about the inappropriateness of several ads around the site, this being one of them (though not one i have seen before today).

Another ad I saw today, for phone service or something, had an animation of a person sticking a fork in an electrical socket, after which time the animation flashed negative and then back to normal. It said something along the lines of "People do stupid things. Don't let paying too much be one of them". Tell me, why in the world would you have an animation like this anywhere, let alone on a site frequented by children? The ad barely even shows the consequences of such an action.

I'm in no way a prude or anything, but there is a time and a place for such ads (maybe). In my honest opinion, neopets during the middle of the day is neither the time nor the place for these ads. :x
