I have to agree with hiddenneggs. While I feel it is OK that many things on the site depend on luck and your time zone, I feel that the sidebar should NOT be one of those things. Take note Quanda, my timezone is smurfed for almost everything time-related on Neo, and I have never complained so about any of it except the sidebar. And its often people complaining that get things changed.

For one thing it takes TNT a lot more time and effort to create a sidebar than an av. Did you know they have to make the menu images in every language? So I don't think there will be ever be nearly as many sidebars to choose from compared to avs. They'll spend a lot of effort to make each sidebar, and most people will only see it one day. Kind of a waste.

If I, an adult (by age at least ) and hiddenneggs could not get the sidebar, how do you think children feel, who's parents won't let them stay up at all hours (on a school night, mind you) because of a game, or carve their own pumpkin because of a game. That would be most children I would think, if their parents are sane, I know I wouldn't let my niece do it.

And back to my original question...do we know for sure you can't get it as an RE during that 60 second window on any night? Adam did say time of day, not day of year. What if they just made it much easier to get on Halloween? This would be very hard to test, because the people for whom this is a decent hour, probably have it already from Halloween.

I'm sure there are others who are in a comfortable time zone but did not get it because they weren't surfing the site during that one minute. Maybe they can test it.

That's right. But if its as hard to get as a normal random event, like a Faerie Quest for example, it would take a lot of testing for someone to get it, 'cause of the short time frame. But if enough people think it's worth a try, maybe a thread could be started for test results, like we did with the advent calendar "sweet spot". I got the snow beast because of that one. I'll test for the sidebar next time I get a case of insomnia, that happens to me every few months or so.

My mom let me stay up that late, and I didn't get it. I stood there clicking on random things and refresh for a whole five minutes before and afterwards.

If its a random event, it must be very rare if you can get it every day.
