Whole I prefer the more professional look of the new toolbar, the extra ad just seems a bit bomarding to me. Perhaps it's because the only major ad that I've been used on my years on Neo have been just that small little button, and it has been enough for my attention. Granted most sites that I go to have many more ads placed in many different places than what's being proposed, it just seems very out of place and almost tacky in something like Neopets.

Create A Pet is fine and good. Maybe you do only need it 4 times, but I think it's an important link. Maybe rename World to Reference, something like that. I know I've clicked world when I meant explore more than once:)

Merchandise on the sidebar? No, please! Maybe Guilds? Even if it just took you to the main guild page instead of having to go to shops, then click guild, then transport ... a BD link would be a good idea too.

It seems that more people are not happy with that top banner thing than those that like it. As someone who still is on dial up and probably will be for quite some time (fixed income), and the shockwave that's already on the sidebar sometimes taking awhile to load, I just don't think it's a good idea, I believe it will be very distracting having 2 things moving around and it's just too darned big!

Rune brings up a good point too ... the top banner with the ad is a bit "over the top" and maybe, yes, tacky. The ad we have now is enough to get my attention:)

I agree with Amneris, Cranberry, Ocean_wave and Ledi. Please leave the old banner ... there's no rhyme or reason for this new one. Change the sidebar/navigation, we could use something updated and more useful. But that top thing has got to go.

my only complaint was about world and pet central. The tags are so vague I never know where to find anything under them. I suggest combining the two.

Guys, we probably scared Adam away with all our enthusiastic responses :P

Anyway, we'll all learn to get use to the new bar when it's out, however much you might hate it so yeah....As long as it doens't take longer to load on my 56k I'm happy :) Really...

Doh! Now I've done it.... Come back, Adam!!!!!We PPTers are really angels 0:) Pink ones at that XD

EDIT: Oh and while you're at it Adam, can you please make the snow beast a little bit EASIER to get? I've been refreshing for 10months now since the last Advent and I STILL can't get him :( :x

I'm very concerned about the addition of a top banner advertisement. There are many of us, believe it or not, who live in small rural areas where broadband connections are unavailable. We have to depend on dial-up. To make matters worse, my highest connection rate is 28.8 due to phone line limitations here in the Sierra foothills.

I'm so afraid that the top banner ads will slow down the loading of pages for me. It's hard enough with the little Flash tv box ads on the left sidebar. My other concern is this: Adam, some parents are already complaining because of immersive advertising and "advergames". If you start selling large banner ads, you may run into some opposition from those folks.

Subliminally-wise, the advertisements are more effective when placed the way they are now -- in the sidebar. While people play games, read the boards, and restock, that little ad in the left-hand side of one's peripheral vision is registering quite effectively without anyone being conscious of it.

Just my 2 cents worth, or 2 NPs worth, lol! :battar:

I like the new style... with one exception. The large ad at the top of the page. Its too big, and honestly, un-needed.

My suggestion:

(Apologies for the stolen screenshot... I had none of my own to use.)

Where I would put the sword... no idea. But I would put 'create a pet' in 'pet central' wouldn't that make sense?

Thinking some more... you could also put the shop toolbar to replace the ad:

That would work too.

About the new Events Button. I think it would be helpful if the number of events you have pending was displayed underneath.

I have to disagree, having the event thing at the bottom would be bad because it would be much much much less noticiable there, belive me, you would never notice it.

I guess I didn't make myself clear. What I meant was instead of saying "show all' under the icon it would say you have two events pending or five events.

The purpose of instant messages is to be instant and I'd find not being able to read immediately what messages were about annoyingly inefficient.

I agree. Seeing that first sentence is important. If sombody makes an offer on a trade you need to know about it as soon as possible so you can accept or reject before they withdraw.

The giant banner ad across the top wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't animated. It's the animation the causes problems when loading the page and gives a raging headache to anyone who stares directly at it.

I understand the need for corprate sponsors and would much rather deal with ads than have the whole site go "Premium."

What I've never understood is why you feel the need to advertise your own flash games so much? We are already on the site. We log on everyday. We know what the games are and where to go if we want to play them.

If you want people to play your games more then you need to increase the amount of neopoints one can earn from doing so. No amount of advertising is going to make me play a game that takes 30 minutes to get through and only gives me 300np's in return.

Yes, I find this very annoying as well. But it's not just on Neopets. How many of you have Optus or Foxtel or whatever? Every single one of their channels feels compelled to advertise their own TV shows non stop, and rarely do we see any real advertisements.

On Neopets, most of the ads consist of banners for Jhudoras Quest or Neoquest or something. What's the point?

I have to agree with you there as well. Nothing is more annoying than trying to read something on a page and have a big fat banner ad showing itself off right in front of you. It grabs your attention sure, but it's annoying as hell. More annoying I believe than a popup ad. And plus, banner ads are kinda pointless, since most of the time, a person only stays on a page for about 5 seconds before clicking somewhere else.

i'm quite fond of the little ads, they sometimes remind me of a game i havent played in a while, and of new games i havent gotten around to playing yet. and i'd much rather have a banner ad than a pop-up one

When i saw the actual page (not the screenshot) the banner ad didn't worry me so much, i dont think it was that that overwhelming, but then i do have a higher resolution and a fast connection (although it was slow at the time coz one of my housemates was downloading). The only 2 things that worried me were having the links associated with your username and your selected pet so far down, as i use them all the time, and the thing with the top banner.

At the moment it looks like this:
Image
and it all fits nicely and the banner looks like it's part of the page.

But does no1 think that the new one:
Image
looks all on it's own and not part of the page? it just sort of looks like it's been plonked there.

Well, after seeing the new bar, or at least how it is at the moment, I have to say I'm not as horrified as I thought I would be. In fact, I really like the look of it at first glance.

I know why a lot of people may not like the larger banner ad. I am also used to the little ad off to the side. It was there and noticable, but not right in your face. Really though, as long as the advertising stays as it has (advertising for neopets games or places within the site) then I'm fine with it. I'm already on neopets, so I'm not bothered by an ad suggesting a game. As long as we wouldn't go getting sponsor overlaod with the banner space I like it.

I don't think, hopefully, as I'm far to lazy to deal with things of this nature, it'll bother my lookup the way I have it, but if it does I'll just have to run away and cry forever... or adjust everything 20 pixels, whatever.

So far I like where it's going.

Adam, why are you always here when I'm not? *pouts*.
Aaaaanyway, love the new bar. The neopets logo is prettier now :D but I can see myself clicking on world instead of explore since you changed the icons around :P. Glad you included the time, it'll make it much easier for people in other time zones (like me!) to know what time it is where you are without having to add/subtract a certain number of hours. The little jubjub beside boards is cute (I remember when I first found neopets, I thought the little guys beside chat were neopets :P) Well, that's pretty much all I have to say about the toolbar, hope it's released soon!

Alot of people agree with me about having "Create a pet" on the bar, and alot of people disagree *for some reason* Well, if you ARE going to put one on there no matter what, then I would say you should make that button more usefull than just create a pet... like maybe have a button that leads to the abandonpet/create-a-pet screen with the angry techo and happy uni.... that way both of those will be there.... or something of the sort, but it's gotta be more useful than just "create a pet"...

You and me both. :P And let's not forget EDNA and her blasted avatar....I'm over 1400 quests now...the money I've spent...gah...I don't even want to think about it...that's just cruel to have it *that* random.

But back on subject, yeah...I'm a bit worried what the new bar will do to my custom lookup's sidebar now that you guys mention it. ´:( Having the ability to toggle between old and new bars would be nice, but wouldn't that mean folks with the new bar option would still see our lookups all messed up? :o
