I'm not quite sure where you're coming from- the Leofinn is clearly just sticking together 'Leo' (lion) and 'fin' (for the fish side) while the Codyber is named after the president (like Teddybear is named after the president Teddy). Carmariller maybe, but it's a bit of a stretch....
As for which I want to keep- I really really REALLY want that Llama. The Varwolf looks like it should be a proper pet (although I wouldn't get one myself) and the Nikondrak would be cool to have too (again, I wouldn't adopt one, but it fits the neopets style and I bet they'd be popular with some audiences).

You just released 50 new species !! how are you going to give them all a day of there own like kiko day? and how are you going to make them be able to be painted with paintbrushes? - Nikki24772005
HeheThat was our little April Fool's Day joke. We always do something silly at this time of year. Those species aren't really released, and they won't have their own pet days. You are not by any means the only person who fell for it. (You can stop sending the angry *how dare you release 50 or why are they so ugly* messages now heh ). I mean did you see the Hughhman or the scary Gorilla/Turtle ?!?!

Is there even the remotest, tiniest chance that some of the April fool's pets might be released in the future? The "Sharkaw" and "Polaflint" look pretty cool, and the Neopets menagerie doesn't have any bobcat or lemur-like critters yet. - Gizmonic
Well a lot of those pets were designs that didn't quite make it in the past. If one or two seem popular we could possibly end up tweaking the things we didn't like so much about them and adding a more refined version. We have no plans to do that at present though.

What's weird is how new this "tradition" is -- I've heard about it for a few years now, but it certainly was not the U.S. tradition when I was in elementary school/junior high/high school/college (a timeframe spanning from the '60s into the '80s).
So it wasn't widespread until at least the late '80s, the '90s, or turn of the century.
I wonder how it started. Some grumpuses trying to cut short the time when they would have to put up with the pranks?

Hiddenneggs, I had never heard of it either, so I decided to do some research on the internet (*sigh* what would I do without the internet?).
It seems that it is a very old tradition to end all pranks by noon. By old, I mean late 1500's. Supposedly, any pranksters who don't oberve this rule in turn become April Fools. Perhaps the rule fell to the wayside in modern times--at least here in America.
I found a lot of interesting stuff on the history of April Fool's. One theory: It started in late 1500's when France switched from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar. New Year had been celebrated from March 25 to April 1st under the Julian calendar. New Year was then moved to January 1st when the new calendar was put into place. Those French people who didn't get with the times and who continued to celebrate New Year in late March got various jokes played on them. One joke was to stick a paper fish on a person's back. That person was then called Poisson d'Avril, or April Fish, which later became April Fool.
Mark Twain said "April Fools Day is the day upon which we are reminded of what we are on the other three hundred and sixty-four days."![]()

I don't mean to sound rude, but it is going to be a new pet, things like header, and all the other colours have already been found. The Lutari was not featured on the All Pets page, although it has been hanging around on the servers for a while.
