One of my friends has told me that neopets gave out my password through some kind of glitch, and I have yet to get this resolved. I first filled out the "Frozen Account" form back in April, and never received a reply. I then filled out the "Account Access" form at the start of this month and just now got back a generic automated response with no new information.
I'm sure my 2 million np and items were all cleaned out prior to whatever was done to get my account frozen, but it would be nice to have my pet and game trophies back, as I spent quite a bit of time on them. Hopefully I'll get an actual person with my latest reply to the automated response, but is there anything else I should be doing? A specific email address for this problem or something?
I'm also quite annoyed that I received absolutely no notification about this from neopets. When your acount is frozen you have no way to see the news, and no way to find out about something like this. An email about a problem this severe would have been appreciated, especially considering the risk to all of my other accounts across the internet with similiar user names and passwords. Luckily my email had a different one, or I'm sure I would have lost it as well.
Kettch, I hate to say it, but you're not the only person who got "hit" during the glitch and still haven't gotten their accounts back or any type of response. That whole thing was an absolute nightmare. The only notification originally was another member (not a staff member) posting on ONE board telling people to change their passwords. The site was never taken down, this went on for almost an entire weekend, there was mass panic and hysteria on the site as no one knew what exactly was happening. Unless you came here, this forum was invaluable for getting and passing on current information.
The glitch was this - if you used the lost password option on the login page and typed your or any username and clicked, instead of getting the cybunny page saying your password is being sent - you were directed to another page that showed username, password and email.
The Neopian Commentary has an archived article called "Neohacking Scare" with many, many comments under the article. I thought this comment was interesting:

Well, today the news was updated very early - for both April 7 and then April 6. Today is Gruslen Day. If you look under all of that content, you will see:
"SECURITY UPDATE - As you most probably know there was an issue over the weekend that affected a small number of accounts. If you were affected, and lost any items or Neopoints please be assured that our support team is working on setting everything straight!
Just a quick reminder that it is very important that you change your password on a regular basis. Yes, really important, and you can click here to do it!"
Obviously it was not a small number of accounts and obviously not everything has been set straight.
Keep writing, try a snail mail letter if you can and good luck. Please keep us posted on anything, ok?
