I think there are a few other shops that are okay but they have fewer rare items. Check out the Kreludan bookstore -- I think most of the items there are still new enough to be slightly profitable (look them up on the wiz).
I use dial-up, and yes it is kinda difficult. ^^;; Unfortunately my parents don't want to get broadband, or any type of high speed internet.
Now that there are so many people in the shops, it's much harder to get stuff if you're using modem, but if you shop in the right places, you'll get some good stuff every restock.
