Talk about Round Table Poker; tips, strategies, and more.
Under 13 without parental permission on Neopets, Round Table Poker is pretty much useless to you until that fateful day of your 13th birthday rolls around.
Anyways, got any tips? I can't even get past Tourny 1.
It's beat Tourny 5 for a trophy, right?
Edit: Round Table Poker has been taken off the site, so you may lock this board.

You have to really look at thier faces to figure out what they have. Bluffing don't work.

I'm stuck on tourny 5, I've pretty well given up on that game until a moment of insanity strikes demanding I try for the tropy again.

What's that supposed to mean?

what do you mean its off the site?
i was playing it a half hour ago
-----
first round betting
for me, if i get dealt pair of jacks or better i'll bet 10 to get the pot up a little bit
2 pair or better if you get dealt it, might want to consider trying to raise the first round of betting
CAREFUL if someone else is raising, they don't raise without reason
if you are one of the first or second in line to bet and you have a good hand, you may want to try gambling -- check to start, wait for someone else to bet, and then raise them. in general, everyone will stay in round 1 unless it's really late in the game
you may want to change your strategy of betting in round 1 if you are behind by a lot (need to bet more) or ahead by a lot (play it conservative unless you have a GREAT hand)
----
discarding - you
i play with the following mindset -
if i have nothing at all, i keep my highest 1 or 2 cards and discard the rest)
with a pair, i'll usually keep the pair, and my highest card, and discard the other 2. my rationale is: if you have, say, 2 jacks, a 9, a 7, and a 5 .. i would keep the 2 jacks and the 9. that way, if any of my new cards are a jack (2 left in the deck) or a 9 (3 left in the deck) my hand improves. if i just keep the jacks, i need to hope for a pair out of the 3 cards i get dealt, or a jack. just a personal guess. works specifically well if you have, say, a small pair and an ace.
if you have nothing, go for a straight or a flush. remember these odds:
the odds of pulling one specific card needed are 52-1, weighted 47-1
the odds of pulling one specific number you need are 13-1, assuming you don't already have that one. in other words if you have 2 4 5 6 and need a 3, there are 4 3's left in the deck so you have a 1 in 13 chance of pulling it. weighted, its down to 12-1 because you have 4 of the cards that aren't 3's
the odds of pulling one specific suit are 4-1. that's assuming, of course, you don't have any of that suit already, in which case, why do you need that suit?
if you have 4 clubs, there are 9 left in the deck, which has 47 cards in it - roughly a 20 percent chance of pulling it out
if you have 3 clubs, there are 10 left in the deck. the odds of getting one of them are 1/4.7, the odds of pulling the second one is right about 10 percent
if you have nothing to play for though, might as well give it a try
-----------
discarding - them
if they have nothing or a pair, they'll get rid of 3
if they bet and get rid of 3, assume they have jacks or better
if they get rid of 2, look out, probably 3 of a kind
if they get rid of 1, they MAY have 2 pair, but they MAY be going for straight or flush
if they get rid of 0, they have either - full house, flush, straight, or better. only with a great hand do you keep going about that
--------
betting round 2
with an ok hand - jacks or better up to a low 2 pair - go ahead and bet - careful if anyone raises you. if you see people betting first, careful again, and if theyre raising - get out unless you have a real good 2 pair
with a good hand - 2 pair with queens high or better - you should be in good shape. low 3 of a kind (up to about 8 or so) you're in good shape as well. only be wary if people are raising
with a real good hand - high 3 of a kind - raise em up
with a stellar hand - pass by if you want to gamble, to let someone else bet first so you can raise
they will drop out if someone has bet and they have nothing good

Yes, they do. But I'm more concern with the number of cards they discarded as well as whether would they starts to bet immediately, right at the start of the game (meaning they have great cards)
