Iced for my stupidity

Wed Nov 03, 2004 8:51 pm

I won't say why I have been frozen, I'm just going to say I have been for what I believe to have been unjust despite what may have caused me to be frozen was out of my own stupidity, that is, being in the presence of people who did forbidden things. I can say that I view it as more of an inconvienience than a looming, ominous, permanent thing, as I believe I was wronged. Do not offer your sympathy, if you have any, as I have brought this upon myself through carelessly jeopardizing my account (although not violating any of the Terms and Conditions). All the same, I would like to say I will remain on these forums and will be moving accounts on these forums and Neopets temporarily to another name until further notice. Ciao.

P.S.: You may be able to find me by searching for a certain type of very wobbly item, or for a Pink Poogle Toy at a certain price.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, OMNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

even if you wont tell us why, will you at least tell us if there is a chance of you getting it back?? :( :( :(

Wed Nov 03, 2004 9:11 pm

Yes.

Wed Nov 03, 2004 9:17 pm

Omni, honestly. Just tell us what the reason is. As far as I can tell, you were at the wrong place at the wrong time. But you also said what you did, did not violate the Terms and Conditions of Neopets.

Simply tell us the reason than maybe we can help.

If I had to guess, I would say it would be discussing the Lenny C or Mystery Pic or something like that on the Neoboards. My advice: stay away from the Neoboards. Period. The only exception should be going there for quest help. That's all I can think of. And just stay away, since going there will give you a major urge to post... for some random reason. So yeah. Good luck getting your account back!

It was something that I had been told several times before that was extremely risky. Yes, it was being on the NeoBoards when people were spamming about the election. I know someone will immediately say that I should not have gone there and that the NeoBoards are sin and the root of all evil on the site, but understand that I was telling people not to discuss their political views as well as making unrelated random comments (Such as, on a board called "B or K?" I said "I like Borks too") on the boards to lighten the mood. I was watching the results come in on the net, and had nothing better to do. You will call me stupid. You will say I made a huge mistake on being on the boards in the first place. You are RIGHT. But I know I haven't directly broken any of the ToC- Therefore, I deserve my account back, even if I did something that should have been a non-issue in the first place.

I had lost my first account Icyshelf, back in 2002, for trying to sell it- which I had, at the time, not honestly known was illegal. I considered leaving then, but I stayed and restarted anyway. I plan to persist with my argument until I get my account back, as I do not plan to lose another so easily. You cannot help me, as this is, after all, my mistake, and a very stupid one at that.

Yeah, I got warned once for telling a new member to watch out for the stupid spam messages "post this etc." and said to not believe in things that say "(insert hokey spam message I wrote up here)" and when I went to post the message I got a warning. It is pretty dumb, but... Yeah, after that I stayed away from the Neoboards mostly. Because I too like to add random sarcastic comments and stuff, but depending on where you post, you could get in trouble. But yeah, I don't see why TNT wouldn't let you have your account back.

When William had mailed me back two years ago, after six months of waiting, he told me I would not get my account back for trying to sell it. I said in my inquiry that I believed I had broken no rule that I knew of, but then he informed me of it. Perhaps it was better left frozen, as Neo is not apt to trust its users, since many of its users will not trust it.

Nah, you're not stupid. I've been on the boards tons of times, and I'm still here. I wouldn't recommend going there, but I've been there so long, I pretty much know the ways of the boards, when to shut-up and when to post; although that still doesn't make me safe. It's just horrible that you would get frozen for posting one post (un-related to the illegal topic, might I add). I have seen people posting at a board where I was lurking. A few people post a few bad things, and all the board's posters gets frozen. Then I thank my lucky stars the board got closed down before I could press that "Post Your Reply" button. You should get your account back if there is any right in this world.

Problem is, I should have KNOWN when to shut up, and I didn't. By being there and saying things that certain people could interpret as radically offensive, I practically held a sign up that said "Report me!" I'm not stupid, I know that, but what I had done yesterday was EXTREMELY stupid.

More likely a freeze-crazy bot.

Hmm, well I did some lurking on the boards last night, they were insane - just about all of them. Even the BD was spam central. Between the election boards, the weird let's stretch the boards by typing a thousand > and other stuff, there was no way I was posting anything - not even to remind people to not discuss politics. I've seen one too many warnings from people trying to be helpful and telling others to not post chains or things like that. Absurd that a warning or freezing can come from telling someone NOT to do something.

The other stuff you were doing, the random posts? You weren't making new topics with that were you? If you did, either a bot or someone with an itchy report finger - were you frozen for spamming? Did you get a warning first? Or just BAM no account anymore? I'm not trying to pry, it's just things have been a little too intense on the boards lately - warnings for things people haven't even done, freezings for not following the rules after a warning, but no warning ever given, things like that.

Do try to get your account back, explain that you were not trying to break the rules, that you were encouraging people to read the Chat Rules and not post political topics and apologize for posting anything off topic ("spam") and just try to explain that you saw some people getting angry or whatever and you were simply trying to lighten the mood or maybe distract whoever was getting into an argument, but that you do follow the Rules, and you do respect them ... I don't know, something like that?

i have such a big mouth when it comes to the political crap that goes on in my country (usa), i'm glad i decided to steer clear of the neoboards. i probably would have been frozen too.

i hope you get your account back!

"This account has been FROZEN for the following reason:

This account was continuing to break the rules even after a warning was given."

Absolutely crazy.

Omni, just about every one of us has made a mistake or two while playing Neopets. And, if not on Neo, definitely in real life--everyone of us! Nobody is perfect. So, try not to beat yourself up too much about it, OK?

And, whether you want them or not, you do have my sympathies. I think Neo's system of freezing for stuff said on the Neoboards is utter doogie doo. I can think of much more serious offenses than what you did. Neo should realize that although some things deserve being frozen forever (like the extremely graphic porn I saw on someone's guild page), things that don't really hurt anyone deserve a temporary ban--at most.

And, it is OK to accept help--even if you got frozen for failing to know better. The boards are evil, I tell you, just evil--and I have been tempted more than once to lash out at some stupid idiot who was saying something just to try and get me frozen--basically, goading me.

My suggestion is if you absolutely have to go on the Neoboards, make yourself a throw-away account and only post from that account. Have nothing on it--so, if it gets frozen you aren't in total devastation.

And, hey, PM me if you need anything to help you get started. And, I mean it. After all, it counts for something in my book that you actually remember Baby Poogle Eater. She, too, got frozen last December for posting on the chat boards--for feeling charitable at Christmastime and wanting to help the "needy." Gah--it still aggravates the bejesus out of me.
