Popups on Neo?

I'm pretty sure that when the new toolbar was being tested and Borovan was here alot, someone brought up popup ads and he said never ... is that right? Well, there's a couple topics on the boards, one's here: http://www.neopets.com/neoboards/topic. ... c=41850305 and someone took a ss and posted it on this topic: http://www.neopets.com/neoboards/topic. ... c=41849193

Could this be spyware or as someone on one of the topics said they got the same thing using the neo toolbar - it's something for having weather on your toolbar.

It's spyware!

The second person has WINMX open - a Music downloading, file-sharing program, and those ALWAYS have spyware.

aha! I thought so. I mean I have gotten 3rd party ad tracking cookies blocked by some of the sponsor ads, but they're harmless anyway - my spyware and a/v just won't allow any 3rd party cookies, so I see a privacy report.

I didn't think popups were possible on Neo. Thanks for the confirmation

I got the exact same weather tracker one, and I use adaware and spybot on a regular basis, and I don't use winmx...if it happens again, I'll take a screenie. It happened when getting a quest from Taelia...

I got it both on the Neopets Banner and a pop up... both showed the same thing... while i was on my shop page...

oh no..........

i hate to be dramatic but it seems like neopets is going back on EVERYTHING they promised. possibly it's not even in adam or donna's hands anymore.

it's just sad is all.

Woah. No there should be no popups whatsoever at all ever, ever ever. If you do find any that are somehow generated by our site, or any of our sponsors I will have no hesitation in pulling every single banner from the site immediately. Email me at mailto:ajp@neopets.com with a screenshot of the banner/page that did it.

What was the name of the banner? Did anybody get a view source at all? Is it still happening?

Adam, are the sponsor banners checked for spyware code beforehand and this might just be a case of somebody slipping in a little something something afterwards?

Also, is there any sort of content qualifications that you guys look for? Are things like pictures of bikini clad pin ups par for the course or was that just a little oversight.

Same sort of question with pharmaceutical companies, offshoots from major tobacco industries, the US Navy, etc.

I got this image from the 2nd link from the initial poster of this thread. However, the what seemed to me a perfectly alright post was deleted from the Neoboards in less than an hour. Board Nazi busy deleting posts again!

Ive gotten pop ups twice on Neopets since the yellow bar update. Sorry, I cant tell you what they were for, I just muttered to myself and closed them...

but it really surprised me because a) it was on Neopets and b) im using Mozilla which blocks all pop-ups! Not these ones, i guess..... maybe I enabled pop-ups for neopets or something since you guys dont have ad pop-ups... so now if you ever really did have them, they show up for me... ahhh! *shoots arrows and pop-ups*

*hugs her adblocker* love this thing, i turned it off because i was curious, and also i wanted to see a few things that it blocks, since as the neopets mobile page *kicks blocker for being a paranoid thing* and i got that too. the pop up add thing for the weather

and i know i don't have, or shouldn't have any spyware since i use programs to regularly clean puter, haven't opened emails in a week and only i use the computer, and only for neopets and ppt... :roll:

my pop up blocker has gone off a few times i'll turn that off so i can see whioch ad was doing it
