hmm, Did I fall for something?

Sat Oct 30, 2004 5:18 am

Hey everyone, Happy Halloween to all! :)

Not sure if I fell for some type of scam, but I was on the trading post and someone posted for help that they were new and their pets were sick and hungry and they needed help....

When I went to the user Lookup , they joined yesterday and all 4 pets were sick, 2 with Neomonia, and 2 with Floppy Tongue,

Awww , thats awful I thought, and then traded their tiki tack keyring for a tongue shrinker and some food for their pets to eat.....

In retrospect, Im wondering if this is some type of scam and I got fooled....LOL>... can 4 pets get sick in one day when someone just started playing yesterday?

It is possible for 4 pets to fall sick in one day, but highly unlikely unless through man-made means. I normally do not donate to such people, since they could just visit the healing springs to get their pet healed eventually.

I think Hubrid Nox has a RE that does make all your pets sick--I'm not sure if they'd all have the same disease, though.

Sat Oct 30, 2004 5:23 am

Maybe.. but maybe not, too. Either way it is very nice of you. :)

If they adopted them from the pound it could happen. Lots of normal coloured pets I've adopted have been abandoned by previous owners because they were sick.

Hubrid Nox gave all of my pets a nasty case of NeoBlues, and it took quite a few healing springs to shake it off. Tasty Pies are nearly unbuyable.

Sorry, but I don't think it's nice to encourage scammers. Pointing folks to the Healing Springs instead not only foils the scum, but is actually more helpful to new folks in the long run. That way, if by chance the person really is new or clueless, he or she now knows how to take care of problems instead of begging like a scammer.

Yes, Hubrid can zap all your pets at once. No, they don't end up with different diseases.

Pets don't get hungry the day after they're created, either.

And can you really imagine a brand new player thinking, I need help, I'd better go to . . . the Trading Post!?

You'er welcome. :) The safest way is not to trust any beggars, no matter how dire their situation is. The point is, your Neopets will not die or vanish no matter how hungry or sick they are, and there is always the soup kitchen and healing springs to help newbies care for their pets, therefore there is no reason to donate to anyone who claims hunger/sickness as an excuse.

neomonia.. don't you get that from poisonous jelly?

really, its very nice of you, and extremely kind and sweet, but for illnesses, you are probably best to drop them a neomail telling them to visit healing springs every 15 minutes,

and i'm always saddened to hear that people do take advatage of peoples kindness like this :( since if they haven't healed their pets and are still asking, its most likely they are a scammer :(

Sat Oct 30, 2004 11:19 am

Yeah I would really have to agree. This person is probably in fact a scammer...

Wow, that's a new one on me, and I haven't seen a new one in months.

In retrospect, it definately seems like a scam...(Hmm...I shall dub it the "Pity Scam")

Think you could PM me the username so I can get a screenie and add it to JubiNumo's Trade Scam Page to help raise the alarm? I'll probably remove this person's username from my screenie since I'm not 100% sure of wrongdoing, but it is something that should be added to the page I think...

When this happens they all get the same disease.

I ran into a person very similar to this a few months ago *wonders if it is the same girl* All of her pets were sick and she wrote beggar emails to me for donations to heal all four of her sick pets.

I was on to her right away--I pointed her to the healing springs, but she said her computer wouldn't allow her to go there (yea, right! )--so I then boldly suggested that she had purposely gotten her pets sick so she could prey on sympathetic people. And told her that for the time she spent writing and responding to emails, she could have easily made more points by playing games. I then said "Shame on you." She never bothered me again.

My guess is that, in your case, they fed the pets poisonous jellies to get the floppy tongue and neomonia. To get people to feel sorry for such a "new" player with such "horrible" bad luck.

Hey, weekends always seem to bring the scammers out of their hiding places.

Hi everyone, thanks for the good advice, Morningstar, Im trying to find the user name again and Ill PM you the details..

I have a feeling I know what is happening...

I was just on the trades again and came across an ad that is identical, this time a different user name,,, and same again, brand new with 4 sick pets.....

HELP! I am new & poor. My pets are sick with bloaty belly. They are hungry & miserable too. I do not have anything to give them. this isnt worth much, but this is all I have. Please help

Since it is possible to send items from one account to another maybe this is the same person creating new accounts and then sending the items they get back to some other account...

Just a thought, but yes its certainly suspicious...
