Adding too much to Meridell?

Tue Aug 10, 2004 4:09 am

Don't you think Meridell is getting to many updates? It's liek TNT doesn't even care about the other older worlds. Two wars/plots had taken place in Meridell already and currently has THREE maps. (not incuding the map they are going to release. thread >> http://www.pinkpt.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... highlight=) If they release the new map, that would be a total of FOUR maps. Here is how much maps the other worlds have ::

Kreludor >> 1 - Since Kreludor was recently added to Neopia, it only has one map
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Krawk Island - 1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Lost Desert - 1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tyrannia - 2 // Tyrannian Jungle and Tyrannian Plateau (used to be 3)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Faerieland - 2 // FAERIELAND and Inside the City(Faerieland City)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Terror Mountain - 3 // Happy Valley // Terror Mountain Ice Caves // TERROR MOUNTAIN!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mystery Island - 1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Virtupets Space Station - 1 (i think)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Haunted Woods - 3 // The Haunted Woods // Deserted Fairground // Haunted Marketplace(wich doesn't really count)

A lot of the maps haven't been updated recently...

How can you have multiple maps for krawk island and mystery island? There's no place to go! Meridell has wide open spaces.

They could go into the jungles of the Mystery Island (which I think they should do, with the "Hidden City" or "Lost City" from the TCG). And for Krawk Island, there can be more underground caverns and such.

Oh, and the Haunted Marketplace doesn't really count. Well, if it does, then so does the Island Marketplace...

I've gotta agree. I mean, here're basically the only possible places to go in other places...

Krawk Island - Nowhere! Underground = underwater.
Kreludor - Inside the moon?
Virtupets - Uh... a store closet?
Mystery Island - A volcano, maybe... but again, underground=underwater.
Haunted Woods - There's nowhere else to go...
Lost Desert - Sakhmet City, maybe? But what difference would be there?
Tyrannia - Erm... there's enough.

Meridell is basically the hub of Neopets -- while Neopia Central is basic, Meridell is basic but with a theme. :)

Krawk Island - Underground = underwater could still very much work. Isn't Hannah underground in her game? And underwater caverns, etc.

Mystery Island - Like I said, Mystery Island could (and should) have a city in the jungle.

Lost Desert - Sakhmet City, yes, but there could be other regions out there. In fact, there are. The place where Princess Sankara is from, for instance.

Haunted Woods COULD go more into the Woods, but that'd just be boring. Space station COULD have other levels, but that'd be boring as well. And yes, Tyrannia has enough...

What about Maraqua?
That needs updating.
We still don't know what the faerie statue is, or the necklace around her neck

I like the idea for underwater caverns and a city in the jungle... Maybe have a quest place of some sort in the city. But I think there's enough of them... Or is there?

(snip)

Islands don't float. Underground on an island is no more underwater than underground on other land.

The idea of the volcano should make that clear -- how could there be magma burbling up from the planet's core if the volcano isn't attached to the planet?

they could have a second part of the lost desert where the rukis come from or such... Ruki City? :P

no but i agree, meridell has too much worlds. and darigan sort of is the same like meridell! it's on the same explore button!

They should have a plot about the Rukis. Yeah...

tnt should make the darigan citadel a separate world. it could be like the evil verison of the floating faerieland on the other side of neopia, and meridell would still only have 4 maps.

Personally I don't see the citadel as "big enough" for it's own world. It only existed in the begininng to serve as the opposing side for the Meridell conflict not as something as "independent" as another world entirely. Besides according to the plot -- Darigan is permanently there (their land was ruined and pretty much they have nowhere else to go)

The statue is the darkest faerie from the PS2 game.
Since the game has been delayed, that plot has not yet progressed.

Personaly I'm just glad that they're adding maps.
I know that everyone has their favorite world and wishes it would get more attention but I really don't mind.

the number of maps also dosen't necessarly pertain to how much is on them. The meridell maps are pretty spaced out because things are grouped in a logical order. And I agree that meridell is a bigger place so it has more maps. Meridell's maps seem to have grown organicaly out of the plots surrounding it so they seem to fit well. This isn't to say there aren't plenty of ways to expand the other maps, and that I woudnt' welcome more content there (because I would), but as of you

Also meridell is, unlike some of the other worlds, in a state of flux. Things are changing. Other worlds, (not going to name examples because i'll get yelled at) are more static. That's not a bad thing but it means thay they aren't changed as often because they don't have as much to change. The "past" theme means that that world is growing and changing at a faster rate than "modern" neopia.

Additionaly meridell has a good theme for plots, the medieval idea has a lot of different things that can happen. Other areas are more limited in potential plots. I'm also fairly sure that TNT had both wars planned out together so it's not like they came along and said "hmm i think meridell needs a second war" It's more like one plot was extended.

So yeah
In conclusion -- there's no such thing as neopets doing too many updates ;) I'm really more likely to worry about them not updating things enough. Currently they have focused on meridell. That's not really a bad thing. I'm sure they'll be focusing somewhere else next (perhaps krawk island since a Hanna plot says pirates to me).

Well, yeah, I know it's not all underwater for an island, but you can't go underground for every one of the worlds and expect it to be different for each.
