I'm considering requesting a Pocket Neopet for my birthday, so I'm just wondering if they're worth the AU$50 to shell out, and/or if the Rare Item codes still work...
Cheers

Don't go for the regular ones. They're awful. The Deluxe pocket neopets are a lot more fun, with more stuff to do. However, you'll probably get bored of them real quickly. I got my Faerieland Deluxe Pocket Neopet last December, and I was bored of it by January. And the rare item code from the game didn't even work.

well, personally, I don't think that they look that good. I mean it is kinda cool that we can take it anywhere but the graphics, well, they aren't exactly the best ever.

I wouldn't, and I have lots! of neo items - mostly plushies. But most people I've talked to who have the pocket neopets end up not liking them all that much. Oh and the RIC I don't think has ever worked for anybody. You can write to support and they will send you a new code though. There's a separate place to write just for RIC problems. Nice people who handle that mail

I don't know about the deluxe models--but the regular model--no way!
The biggest problem is that you have to interact with it in the morning, at lunch time, and around dinner time to feed and entertain the pet. And, if you forget, eventually, you hear a loud beep from the thing. You look at the screen and a huge atomic bomb has gone off and then the pet walks off into the sunset--meaning every thing you have done up to that point has been wiped out and you have to start all over again.
Neopets was not too bright in its thinking this one out. Who has time to interact with the thing that often? And no kid, to whom this thing was supposed to appeal, will ever be able to feed it at lunchtime during the school year. I don't know of any school that would allow kids to bring toys to school--just so the virtual pet could be fed and played with.
When my daughter first got one, she begged and pleaded with me to take care of it while she was at school. I carried that stupid thing with me to work so I could "feed" it at lunch! That lasted about two days. Bah!
It is now sitting on a shelf gathering dust. We took out the batteries so it would stop beeping at us.
On the other hand, I love the little voice-activated toys. They are really cute and ask nothing of you other than to turn them on every once in a while. We have a whole collection of them--and every so often we drive our dogs nuts by turning them on to hear their chatter and see them move about.

o.O Crikey! Shame to hear that they're that bad... And you only get one rare item code, despite the blurb saying you can win more from the game?
Well, I think I'll be just happy with getting a new mobile for my birthday then... Thanks so much for your input everyone! A huge shame that Neopets does a shabby job with merchandise with so much potential... Again, many thanks

I got a delux one for Christmas. I'm 22 years old and in my oppinion they're a waste of time. However, someone younger might find them entertaining. Yes, you do get a rare item code with them.

Nope, I got the regular AND the deluxe ones for my 9 year old for Christmas and he never plays with either one of them! I agree that the little interactive pets are cuter plus they have the added advantage of being able to turn them off when you want to!

Good thing I didn't get one...I would have smashed it with a hammer by now.

They're not worth it at all...
But I got a mirror from the Rare Item Code...

Wow. I didn't think anything could be more annoying than that knock-off Tomo-whatever those things were that I bought several years ago. At least those just got sick if you left them alone for too long, and "too long" was at least a day or two.
::takes them, along with 90% of the other unimpressive Neomerch, off the list of things to buy::
Sad. I always thought it would be great when they finally started marketing Neostuff, but now I either can't find it (plushies) or don't want it (everything else... except those dark faerie sisters notebooks... they're hot.)

The best virtual pet item I've ever owned was one of those new Pikachu GS thinks. Hook it to your belt, and walk around, play some games, and it's happy! If I knew where it was, I'd still use it today.
